Mission: The mission of integrace institute is to provide the highest quality professional education and conduct and evaluate empirical research on the care of persons with alzheimer's disease and related memory-impairing disorders.
Programs: Research - the institute conducts and evaluates research on dementia-specific topics and non-clinical aspects of older age with a focus on improving the care of persons with dementia and alzheimer's, and improving the quality of life for both the residents and their families. Institute personnel are conducting four funded research projects: validation of an internet-based dementia risk assessment, elan clinical trials, erk ad-index in the diagnosis of alzheimer's disease and preliminary studies of new cognitive tests computible with handheld devices. Additionally, institute faculty are active with two other non-funded projects. The research division also assists outside researchers with recruitment for their studies related to older adults.
education - the institute is committed to developing and implementing evidence-based educational programs for health care professionals who care for persons with dementia, alzheimer's disease, and other memory impairing disorders. Over the past year, the institute has provided more than 480 hours of education at over 42 different locations throughout maryland and across the country. Our programs draw a wide range of professionals including physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, activity professionals, nursing assistants, psychiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and administrators. Over the past year, the institute provided education to more than 1,900 individuals. Sessions are conducted whereby a distinguished clinician or scientist gives a formal lecture relevant to the science of dementia, or care of persons with dementia. This offering draws more than 37 on-site attendees and is also available online through live video streaming where we reach 36 offsite attendees each month. During our last series of 2012, over 733 participants attended in person and online. Annually, the institute offers a 40-hour, week-long advanced training in dementia care. Over the past 11 years, 147 individuals have completed this program. The advanced training program draws health care professionals from across the country and from a wide range of disciplines. One scholarship is available per session.
