Mission: The institute for ecumenical and cultural research is an independent corporation on the grounds of st. John's abbey and university. The institute provides a residential center for scholars of different religious affiliations and their families to engage in research and dialog with each other, with the fathers and brothers of st. John's abbey, and with the sisters of st. Benedict monastery, to dispel religious ignorance and to promote better understanding and harmony.
Programs: Ecclesial literature project: writing workshops are held throughout the year, mainly in the summer. In a highly competitive application process 12 writers are invited to spend a week-long session with a well-known writer and peers in a writing environment that often times produces published work. During the fiscal year, 8 writing workshops were conducted with a total of 96 participants.
collegeville institute seminars: seminars on vocation and faith in the professions which examine the question of how christians, employed in various professions understand their work as a christian vocation and the ways in which their faith influences their practice and their practice influences their faith, and profession. Seminars on integration in theological education and ministry is to increase understanding and resources about integration among theological educators. During the fiscal year, 4 seminars were conducted with a total of 44 participants.
resident scholar program: scholars live in residency anywhere from one week to a full academic year. While here they focus on research projects that have direct impact on the work of the church. During the fiscal year, there were 11 resident scholars and 5 short-term scholars.
