Mission: Institute for Democracy Studies defends democracy from unprecedented challenges to basic constitutional rights through education, outreach, and research. IDS investigates the anti-democratic religious and political movements that undermine the mainstream values of tolerance and pluralism, an independent judiciary, the separation of church and state, and reproductive freedom.rights. Through educational outreach, IDS seeks to inform and enhance public debate, motivate greater civic participation, and encourage fuller reporting in the media about major trends affecting democracy and human and civil rights.
