I have partnered with the Innovative Schools Network for the past 5 years. "Transformation" has become an overused term in education, primarily because we all want to do "it." The ISN has been an innovative leader in assisting schools and school districts in developing "zones of innovation" where learning is different; learning is engaging; learning is rooted in curiosity; a place were kids do most of the work as the teachers advise and guide the learner based on their strengths and interests. They have provided strategic planning services that helped develop the foundation upon which we could build our vision of how we want education to be different...they opened the door to see things "differently" and provided the leadership and services to help us redefine education in our district. They provide onsite and remote consultation through video coaching. Many of their coaches are current teachers and leaders within project based or inquiry based schools. They are very adept at bridging the fine line between a schools district's central control of a school building and the building having the autonomy to truly innovate and do things differently. This is hard and risky work for many school systems because we have prided ourselves in the past of the "one size fits all" model assuming a uniform delivery model would be fair and adequate for the success of all learners. Now however, more districts have come to realize that they must begin offering different learning models and opportunities for students based more on strengths and interests than the legacy curricula intended to serve all students. ISN brings exciting, fresh ideas and enthusiasm to those who seek a different way of educating students for the future.
The Innovative Schools Network works tirelessly to support teachers who are working on the cutting edge of education. There 's ample research to support modern education models and teaching styles, however too often teachers get lost trying to figure out how to apply what they know, re-create reliable systems, and education the general public. ISN is chuck full of brace educators who are willing to share what they know and have tried in order to ensure that all students have access to the very best opportunities in education.
Every time I have had a question or needed information the ISN staff has been quick to respond and provide exactly what I needed. Additionally, it has been a pleasure to volunteer with an organization that appreciates what I can offer and puts it to good use. They are first rate!
We have been a member school with ISN for several years now and have benefitted greatly from their support and encouragement. Between conferences and mentor opportunities, ISN has helped DC Everest Idea School to flourish in the PBL world.
We at DC Everest Idea School have been members of ISN since its inception. They have regularly and enthusiastically supported our school and our efforts at innovative approaches to education. They have helped us to grow in our reach both state-wide and nationally. We look forward to working with them in the future as this hard working organization continues to grow.
I have attended their amazing conference three years in a row and always leave with valuable information. The team is extremely dedicated and want to see schools continue to evolve and grow.
ISN is truly a family! This network of hard-working professional educators is empowering, inspiring, innovative, and dedicated to making a difference in education for students, teachers, and communities. BE part of this network and LEARN from an enormous group of talented, passionate people.
ISN serves a group of inspiring educators from around the country who strive to create challenging, inclusive and engaging schools for all students to excel and change the world. I look forward to every email newsletter and the annual convention each year to be inspired by other educators who share their stories of success.
Excellent source of help and resources for schools and governance boards. The ISN conferences supply inspiration and connections for the education community.
Innovation in charter schools is critical. We joined the Innovative Schools Network to increase our ability to work with like minded people embracing innovation. We have a deep interest in reaching out to the young Hawaiian children who are not being successful in the traditional public schools and we want to provide opportunities for these children to immerse themselves into Hawaiian culture and language. By networking with the Innovative Schools Network, schools in Hawaii can authentically share with others, especially Native American cultures.
Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, I committed to providing staff development to enhance and support the teacher evaluation processes through professional development. I attended several different conferences to help plan professional development focusing on strategies for use with English Language Learners, family engagement, cultural diversity, innovation, formative assessment, issues surrounding poverty, leadership, neuroscience, and blended learning. My hope was to find one organization that could meet all of our needs. The mass production and widespread use of computers, cell phones, and the internet has ushered in a digital revolution that demands a transformational approach towards educating for the future. While our school needs to deal with many current academic issues, the school needs to increasingly focus on an educational vision for the future. The shift from the Industrial Age to the Digital Age brings great challenges concerning how children are educated. It is critical to not only understand how people learn but to also embrace new visions for the future of learning. I finally found the one organization that could provide for all of our needs: the Innovative Schools Network (ISN).
The ISN supports the establishment and growth of high quality, research-based innovative schools by providing professional training and guidance, and ensuring that educators can easily collaborate, connect, and learn from one another. Their mission is “to provide the nation’s public school educators, administrators and related leaders with a network that builds a culture of innovation in thought and practice to transform learning and schools.” The ISN annual conferences highlight some of the foremost innovative leaders and creative minds in education. These trendsetting conferences provide a vibrant gathering of innovative thinkers and an opportunity to learn as well as share. Topics include a broad array of cutting-edge educational issues and trends, technology integration for the classroom, student-driven educational workshops, STEM, project based learning, arts integration, and personalized learning. Last year our school sent half of our teaching staff to the conference. We were featured in a session entitled, “The Makery: Empowering Students to Make Almost Anything with 21st Century Manufacturing Tools." This year, we will again be sending a large group of our teachers to the annual ISN conference. We are in Hawaii and the conference is in Wisconsin. It takes a huge commitment of time and funding resources to support a group of this size but it is worth every penny spent. We love the ISN!
Always a great experience and value working with ISN. The opportunities to network with experts and practitioners who are on the front lines of transformational change keeps us coming back for more. Thanks ISN!
The ISN is a bright spot on a growing landscape of schools and institutions looking to develop thought leadership and practical strategies for moving the learner experience toward more contemporary environments. We've learned so much from the expertise and networking opportunities that ISN offers!
Bring together dedicated educators, organizations, and individuals to share the latest and greatest in education.
ISN supports innovation in schools in all forms, whether it is PBL, Montessori, STEM, charter, traditional, or anything else. They are fostering innovation in whatever form it may take. Their leadership and support team are second to none. The conferences they put on have national speakers and encourage honest debate and learning. I hope ISN is successful in bringing their knowledge, network, and innovation beyond Wisconsin.
What a great review. Thank you so much for your comments and collaborative efforts.
This is one of the most innovative and helpful/supportive group of educational pioneers that we have ever had the pleasure of working with! They are professional, timely and know their stuff, when it comes to innovation and supporting the growth of schools- both old and new. The depth of knowledge is extremely well-versed, to help support varied levels of readiness of initiating creative learning maps, personalized learning environments and project-based learning approaches to student application of skills.
ISN have been our primary change champions, leading the way with skill and expertise but also careful not to impose their own agenda. The organization is inspirational, the people are supportive, and when working with them, the results are transformational.
ISN has the expertise to lead a school towards realizing it's own potential, and the commitment to see a project through. They are professionals through and through, never pushing their own agenda, but instead helping administrators, teachers, and parents to work together for the good of students. They are change champions!
I regularly sent as many teachers as possible from my district to the Innovative Schools Network National Conference each year. Teachers always returned excited and motivated to continue in the work of remaking schooling in order to engage, challenge, and inspire all students to be their best and make the world a better place.
This is such a responsive and innovative group of folks who think outside the box to provide consultative and professional development services. They are so customer focused that they make certain their work is tailored perfectly to, in this case, meet a school's needs.
The school that I work for, Connections Public Charter School from Hilo HI has been affiliated with ISN for a number of years. I have attended ISN conferences twice in Dels Wisconsin and I always leave inspired, full of new ideas and strategies to implement at our school, and best of all I have met other professionals from innovative schools from different parts of the USA. I am impressed with what ISN does for pioneering education. Their support of students, teachers and administrators is unparalleled and I am proud to be a part of the Innovative Schools Network family.
I am the former Minnesota state senator who authored the first charter school law in Minnesota and the nation. Chartering was established for two key reasons: autonomy and innovation. ISN has taken these elements and helped both public charter and district schools to achieve new strategies and opportunities for their students. I connected ISN with chartering leaders in other states as well. They are a terrific nonprofit.
ISN works tirelessly to ensure charter schools around the nation are equipped with the resources and connections they need to help their students succeed! They are reinventing education and inspiring educators and students around the US!!
I have been fortunate to benefit from ISN's work from its inception. The services ISN provides truly benefit all schools looking to develop innovative practices.
I was the grant coordinator for a charter school when it was being organized and for its first years of existence. The ISN was invaluable as a resource for me and the staff members of the school as we worked through the process of becoming a charter school and in developing programs that would serve the children in the best way possible. Each person I dealt with was professional and offered assistance where needed, from planning school visitations to providing in service opportunities for the staff. It would have been difficult to navigate all that needed to be done in those early years without the help of the ISN.
As a grant coordinator for the last 1+ years, I truly value the work that ISN has been doing on behalf of schools around the state. They have been professional in their work and have offered workshops, visitations, and conferences that meet or exceed expectations. The connections we have made with educators across the state is due to the work of the staff at ISN. These connections have proved to be extremely valuable as we continue to strive to be an innovative school.
