JHA has made amazing progress in a very short time. I feel proud to know about JHA, to spread the word about JHA and to continue to support this great nonprofit.

My experience with Jewish Heart for Africa, the staff, and the volunteers involved with the organization has been nothing less than exceptional. Everyone is so invested in raising awareness and funding projects. All my life, I have been involved with charities involving the IDF. This organization brings together two unlikely countries to impact the lives of thousands. The fact that this organization not only boosts Israeli economy while providing light to African villages/schools, it shines an even greater light on the generosity of people and the impact Israeli technology has on the world! I am soo happy to be a part of JHA and hope to be for a very long time.
I've been a supporter of Jewish Heart for Africa for approximately 1 year. I'm so pleased that contributions to this single organization reach the Israeli economy, support development of solar power and provide a 'light unto the nations.'
Currently, I am aiming to raise money for JHA by asking people to sponsor me for running the ING NYC Marathon (yesterday). In addition, I volunteered on the Planning Committee for the June 09 event, and volunteered serving food at the event, as well. Was also inspired by performances at the 92nd Street Y and the JHA June Gala to take up Afro-Carribean dancing, which started in September at the Y.
Just having attended the fundraising events for this organization, I have a strong sense of the incredible women that run it and more importantly of the amazing work that they do. Their events are classy, pristine, well planned and fun to attend. At both events they had a program which featured smart and informative African diplomats as speakers, as well as dance and music programs by African dance troupes and drum circles. These programs were not only entertaining, but educational in terms of bringing me closer to the culture to which I am donating. At the last JHA event, there was also an exhibit featuring African art which was exquisite and also added to my education about the people I am helping by donating to this cause. The most clever and most innovative feature of their last gala was the "light up africa" wall, which was a wall size map of Africa, sectioned off, each section containing a lightbulb. Making a donation would light one of these bulbs and throughout the evening, as people donated, you could really visualize just how many villages and communities we were helping by giving to JHA. The work that this organization does is truly G-d's work, and we should all be so lucky to come in contact with the selfless and kind hearted people who run it. Thank you JHA for caring enough to light up Africa and make their world better.
The Jewish Heart for Africa organization is made up of a special group of people with progressive ideas. Their mission creatively connects separate communities and addresses many of the modern Jew's concerns such as; Israel, the environment and world-wide poverty. I got to work one on one with the JHA staff, who couldn't have made my experience more enjoyable. They are warm and open to new thoughts and ideas regarding all aspects of the organization. I learned a lot about not only the cause but also about how to work together in order to bring people together for the cause.
From concept to execution, this organization is an inspiration. The idea of leveraging Israel's innovation in cleantech technology to help transform the lives of impoverished individuals in rural African villages is profound. But what makes this organization exceptional is the manner in which it engages donors and volunteers to care about this cause.
We have been avid suppporters of Jewish Heart for Africa for roughly two years now, and have been inspired by the work they do. Life changing projects for those that deserve to be 'in the light' at all times. They are directly helping Israel, and are truly saving lives.
This organization fully epitomizes the words "tikkun olam". It impacts, in a very critical way, the lives of tens of thousands of needy people in the remotest parts of Africa. It literally changes their lives for the better. It allows them to have clean water and electricity in a renewable way that doesn't hurt the environment. It enobles all those who work with it with a beneficent spirit of doing good in the world. It also improves the image of Israel as a helper and giver to the world at large.
i am constantly amazed by how much jha is able to accomplish. they are changing the lives of thousands of people less fortunate than we are. i feel lucky to have been able to help support them in the past and will continue to support them as long as i am able. i have been involved with charities my entire life and still am constantly in awe of sivan and the entire staff. i look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future. elisha rothman
An amazing organization that truly helps people, impacting the lives of thousands of people in Africa by bringing them clean water and electricity.
I have volunteer my time and have attended many Jewish Heart for Africa events. I can tell you first hand that this is an incredible organization that is slowly but surely changing the lives of thousands of people. Having volunteered in Africa I jnow from experience what it is like there to not have electricity. The impact that Jewish Heart for Africa is having in Africa and for Israel's economy makes this organization worthy of this award.
I have made donations to JHA and have attended events that were sponsored by JHA. I am impressed with their mission and their RESULTS. The energy both literal and figurative spur people to work, encourage, and truly spread light to the nations in a technologically and energy efficient manner. The lives that this organization has saved and continues to save is awing. "Give a man a fish and he is not hungry for one day. Teach him how to fish and he will never be hungry again." This is what JHA has accomplished and continues to accomplish. I plan to continue to give my money and my encouragement to this incredibly goal oriented, empathic and green organization. I encourage others to join in the effort and support JHA. One of the most moving examples of the RESULTS of JHA is that lectricity is now provided to hospitals. This has saved and will save many lives. There is now light to direct the sick and indigent to the hospitals. Vaccines and medicines can be kept vital. Operations are now done using electricity instead of lamps. The world is a better place because of JHA. May they continue their mission and may all who can support them in their efforts.
I am Helen Tabingwa pupil of primary three. I am writing to thank Jewish Heart for Africa for the great gift of light. You have changed our environment. We are in light and there is light everywhere. We will be very happy to see you again.
My name is Irene Kagoye. I am in primary three. I am very happy for the work which Jewish Heart for Africa did to our school. They really showed good heart to us deep in the village and give us solar energy. May God bless Jewish Heart for Africa so much for you have helped us orphans to study well. Now we can do our preps at night.
JHA is an incredible organization and I enjoyed every day I worked there. The greatest thing about it is the speed with which they get things done. The intimate operations setup, having our own contacts on the ground in Africa, allows for direct communication every day to monitor progress and ensure quality. The triple bottom line of helping Africans, utilizing clean energy, and promoting Israel makes JHA a unique organization and a win-win-win.
JHA is an inspiring organization that attracts equally inspiring staff, volunteers and generous philanthropists. I have always felt welcomed by the organization and connected to all who are involved with this cause. JHA successfully executes fabulous events and creative projects but what is most compelling is that they are remarkable at staying deeply connected to the cause and to the people in rural Africa who benefit from proceeds, the Israeli sustainable technology they procure and finally personal contact from people in the organization.
I've been a big supporter of JHA from the moment I found out about their work. The vision, dedication and professionalism of everyone involved is nothing less than impressive. The organization is young, but will no doubt go very far. Everyone who encounters JHA is swept up in enthusiasm and faith.
I have been a volunteer in Jewish Heart for Africa for 10 months now. I am very proud to be a part of Jewish heart for Africa, not only for its amazing goal, achievements and vision but also for the way its being managed and the way they treat us, the volunteers. Jewish Heart for Africa has been a very welcoming and guiding place from the begining. Sivan, as the Founder is very approachable and welcomes every volunteer with a big smile on her face and a warm hug and advice as needed. The staff is truely dedicated to the mission and is working with all the volunteers very intimately. May Jewish Heart for Africa flourish and grow as it desire and definitely deserve. Diana Mailsen.
I have been a volunteer with Jewish Heart for Africa since its inception and am proud to be part of such an important mission. Through fundraising galas and events Sivan Borowich and the JHA staff have provided valuable insight into the dire need for water, electricity and medicine in rural Africa. JHA's purpose is to facilitate development in rural Africa using clean, alternative technologies in order to fight climate change and provide for sustainable economic development. JHA purchases these technologies from Israel, stimulating growth within the Israeli economy while improving Israel’s image around the world. It has been an amazing journey to watch JHA grow and to watch the New York Jewish community grow with it. It is one of the few non-profits of the Jewish world that brings a connection to Africa while simultaneously supporting Israel. It bridges tremendous cultural gaps and addresses environmental causes all at once, showing our interconnectedness and ability to affect change. Sivan Borowich has pioneered a truly important mission through JHA and I hope to see it flourish well into the future.
