Mission: Inner City Law Center has been serving the poorest and most vulnerable individuals and families in Los Angeles County since 1980. Founded on the basic principle that every human being should be treated with dignity and respect at all times, ICLC provides legal representation and social service advocacy to over 2,000 homeless and working poor clients each year. Programs: Slum HousingApproximately 48,000 people get sick in Los Angeles each year because of slum housing conditions. ICLC forces slumlords to repair their buildings and to compensate the tenants who have suffered physically and emotionally from dangerous housing conditions.Eviction PreventionMore than 70,000 eviction actions are filed in LA County each year. ICLC prevents homelessness by representing low-income tenants who are facing unlawful evictions.Veterans BenefitsApproximately 25% of LA's homeless are veterans. ICLC helps these veterans apply for the health care and other benefits that they are entitled to because of their military service.Social Security and Disability BenefitsICLC helps homeless and low-income individuals and families apply for social security, disability benefits, food stamps, and general relief.
