I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2012 at 25 years old. My son was 15 months and my husband and I had been together for 5 years. It was the most surreal moment/time of my life. Since then I have undergone chemo and surgeries and have encountered many complications. Most recently trapped lung due to the disease metastisizing. For years I have been trying to find a group of people that understand what my family and I are living with every day. when I came across the website for Inheritance of Hope I knew that it would become an amazing outlet and apart of our extended family and support network. My husband and I tend to keep to ourselves. Which is funny as to the fact that our son is the complete opposite. We were nervous prior to arriving at the retreat and didn't know what to expect. From the moment we pulled into the front of the Renaissance, we were greeted with open arms from our amazing volunteers and a few coordinators. Mason quickly opened up to Tony and Nick, and our adventure began immediately. It definitely took some time for my husband and I to let go and allow the volunteers to assist with everything. We have always just been use to depending on ourselves for what we needed, what I needed. After a 24 hour drive from Maine to Florida Chris was grateful for the break on pushing me in the wheel chair and allowing his hands to relax. At first group was a little unnerving as neither of us are comfortable speaking in front of "unknowns" but bythe end of it, we both (especially Chris) had opened up beyond any of my expectations. He was able to connect and express with other husbands unlike at home where we don't know anyone in our situation. And MAson was in his moment of glory. He embraced nick and Tony and still messages them!
This trip was needed in so many ways for our family and a time we truly will never forget. I truly believe that regardless of ones current medical situation, everyone should stop to take the time off for a few days and connect with their loved ones and support. To create special memories and lasting moments that help shape the legacy each of us will leave. Lastly, attending this retreat helped me to kickstart the letters and gifts that I wish to leave for my son and husband. this retreat will forever be with my husband son and I, and we will never forget the amazing memories.
All I can say is wow!!! To leave your family a legacy well that's priceless! In lieu of flowers I will request that donations be made to IOH I hope I can give a family the opportunity that my family had!! Amazing!
This is the most generous group of Amazing Individuals. In the face of a horrible outcome Stage 4 Cancer. This group gives you the knowledge and beginning tools to leave your legacy. They arent just people in 1 short weekend you become a family that lasts forever.
My family and I were given a gift that can never be repaid by Inheritance of Hope. I was so amazed at the thoughtfulness placed on even the smallest detail to make my family's experience more than we could ever imagine. The staff and volunteers are so gracious, kind, generous and loving. As a parent, I was so thankful for the staff and volunteers who took the time to welcome my daughter with a hug and big smile and place her at ease instantly. For my husband and myself, the opportunity to meet with other people; parents, caregivers and spouses dealing with like-minded health issues was enlightening and very therapeutic. I was not expecting the in-depth feelings experienced and frankly, I am so very thankful for the insight from the other side; the caregiver, spouse. I feel so graced to have been chosen by Inheritance of Hope. They have really made an impact on myself and my family. They truly are people who genuinely want to give back, to make this difficult time in a family's life a little easier and provide the priceless gift of hope for the future. My family's memories made during this experience will always be special, truly a once in a lifetime gift by an organization that builds legacies on hope, love and life lived. We made wonderful memories, but also are now privileged to call each and every person we met "family".
Our family benefitted from a retreat sponsored by Inheritance of Hope in March of 2018. This experience brought such peace and blessings to our family. We spent the time with other families facing a terminal disease and that is such a gift. We were loved on and cared for by volunteers who gifted us with their time and love. We had no cares as they thought of everything. We spent time having fun in amusement parks, but most importantly we spent time in group sessions. Our daughters spent time with therapists learning how to deal with the challenges of a very ill parent. As parents, we then learned at the end of the retreat how we can best support our children through this time of our family’s life. We as parents were also able to film a legacy video so our girls will always have my most lovely memories and encouragement from me when I am no longer here on earth. I would highly recommend this non profit.
We attended a retreat hosted by Inheritance of Hope in March 2018. I had heard great things about them, but there are no words to communicate the impact of our time with them. They do truly become family. Every detail for each age group is given consideration for the duration of the retreat. They facilitate time to laugh, cry, laugh more, cry more, to whatever extent you need! They love lavishly, not just through their planning & volunteer teams, but from their hearts. You will be changed through your time & interactions with Inheritance of Hope.
The heart and soul of this organization are the people. They are amazing at loving and caring for the people they honor during their Legacy of Hope retreats. My family was blessed with the opportunity to participate in the March 2018 retreat. From the moment we were notified of the honor of being accepted to attend, we were treated with the greatest amount of care and respect. Then when we arrived in Orlando all of the love and care ramped up 1,000%. Every activity, down to the last detail was organized perfectly with our utmost comfort in mind. Our only task while we were there was to relax and enjoy each other. The friendships that were discovered and nurtured, are irreplaceable. The memories that were made will remain as shining moments of our lives!
Our family was served at the March 2018 Orlando retreat. Inheritance of hope is the most amazing organization. The staff and volunteers go above and beyond in every way. The most well thought out and purposeful retreat, with the whole family in mind. I can not say enough good things about Inheritance of hope.
Inheritance of Hope sent me and my family on the most memorable Legacy Retreat. We were taken care of by volunteers and organizers who were angels on earth! My 3 young children immediately felt loved and comfortable in the wonderful environment Inheritance of Hope had created. Since this Legacy Retreat I have felt a big burden lifted and a renewed sense of hope and peace as I navigate my way through coping with my terminal cancer. The memories we made on our Orlando retreat will be remembered forever. I can’t ever thank Inheritance of Hope enough for all the big and small details that just made this the perfect few days for me and my family!
Inheritance of Hope is such a great organization! They provided me and my family with such a wonderful experience making memories at a legacy retreat, which was an all expense paid trip to Orlando, FL with tickets to theme parks, a stay at a Disney resort, and the ability to connect with other families facing our same challenge of living with Metastatic Breast Cancer. And, all of it was made possible by the incredible volunteers that served us. My family is beyond blessed to have been touched by the inheritance of hope organization.
Our family just returned from an Inheritance of Hope retreat in Disney. I find it difficult to put into words our wonderful experience. It is a retreat that you never want to find yourself eligible to take, since it's for families that could possibly lose a parent to illness. My wife was unfortunately diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in November of 2016, which was followed by a very hectic and emotional year. We heard of I.O.H. , did some research and applied to attend a Disney retreat. The application process was easy the approval was fast. Our family's experience was way beyond any expectation we ever could of had!!! The volunteers were there to help with any need that we might have. ALL staff were thoughtful and caring throughout the whole experience. It was a perfect experience at a perfect time for our family. Seeing the joy it brought to my kids and my wife was priceless.
I can't recommend enough for families to attend one of these retreats, they won't be disappointed. These retreats wouldn't be possible without very generous donors as well. Kendra Scott was a major sponsor on our retreat which made our experience even better. Thanks Inheritance of Hope and the Kendra Scott team for making marvelous memories!!!!
Truly an amazing organization that goes above and beyond for those they are serving. Always an honor and incredibly uplifting experience when I volunteer with Inheritance of Hope. I secretly wish everyone I know could experience the love and compassion the staff/counselors/volunteers pour into their families. Cannot recommend Inheritance of Hope enough for both those receiving love and for those looking to give love.
My family just returned from the Legacy Retreat in Orlando. We will be forever grateful for the memories and the relationships we made along with tools that we learned. This retreat reconnected my family. We return prepared and hopeful. IoH volunteers are so sincere and think of every detail to make the retreat AMAZING.
I went in to this weekend with an open heart expecting to help out and provide the best time for the families of 10 women currently battling metastatic breast cancer and left today with SO SO much more. This weekend was full of many laughs, tears, a new family, and most importantly HOPE! Inheritance of Hope is one INCREDIBLE organization and I would highly encourage you to look in to the amazing things they are doing for young families facing the loss of a parent. To say this weekend made an impact on my life is an understatement. My heart is full and I can not wait to continue helping families create legacies for many years to come.
This year was my first year volunteering with Inheritance of Hope and I was blown away by this organization and the impact they made in these families lives that are battling metastatic breast cancer. They not only provided a weekend for these families to create memories and forget about their situations, they created safe spaces for these families to learn how to cope and plan for the future. I can't wait to volunteer again for the next retreat in a few months, but I would highly recommend this organization to friends and family battling terminal illnesses. It's a amazing to have a support system, to help these families find hope and faith that they can get through this! This organization is a blessing!
The legacy retreat was an overwhelming experience. The love shared with my family by strangers was unexpected and needed. For a few days we were surrounded by people who get it and understand exactly where we are at and what it feels like to not know what the next day will bring. The volunteers were amazing and worked from their heart.
IoH far exceeded my expectations. Very organized, very generous and very well run. The people involved are patient, compassionate and a lot of fun to be around. They provided many useful resources for us. A great experience for the entire family. Thank you IOH!
Our experience with IOH was so incredible and our family will be forever grateful for all that IOH did for us while we were on our legacy trip in NYC. I can’t say enough great things about the staff and volunteers at IOH! Truly a life changing experience!
