India Home is an excellent place to work. It has variety of work that you can focus in and helps you delve in not just one sort of routine work. Although it might be difficult to keep up with the variety, it is definitely worth it. It gives you exposure to not just the non-profit but the governmental field as well.
India Home has been providing essential food service to the seniors who are struggling to meet ends meet. Many of the seniors I have referred to were directly impacted by the support and I want them to continue their work into the future.
India Home Inc. is a not-for-profit organization in New York that provides senior center programs, recreational activities, case management, and advocacy and awareness campaigns for South Asian older adults. It has relentlessly worked towards its mission to improve quality of life of seniors in a culturally appropriate manner both during covid and pre-covid times.
It is amazing to see how India Home transitioned into providing support through zoom and encouraged the seniors to embrace technology. Be it delivering meals, groceries, wellness calls, zoom classes - painting, yoga, computers, creative writing .....India Home continued to serve and support seniors during covid times.
A big applause to the founder and executive director Dr.Kalasapudi, the devoted staff, members, donors, supporters, political leaders and board members !
Excellent Non-profit Organization supporting the South Asian Senior Community for the past 10 years.
My parents have benefited from the social interaction and activities.
I was introduced to India Home by my best friend. I thought at first that it a small group of Indian seniors spending time together on Zoom. When I started taking their art class and learned more about it I realized that it was a whole lot more. The people that run this association with the dedication I did not think possible. It not only serves Indians it also serves all of Southeast Asia. They have a food programs story telling yoga cooking art and several more I am not yet aware of. I would say that this association is a great resource to all southeast Asians and a comfortable place to go for help of any kind. The people associated with it like Kavita are doing great work with immense passion. I am very appreciative of their work. It’s really a huge family and appropriately named INDIA HOME.
My husband and I were concerned about how we would be able to get groceries, specifically Indian Groceries, when we landed back in NYC in July from FL and needed to quarantine for 2 weeks. India Home graciously came to our rescue! They said "Just give us the list, we will find a volunteer to buy the groceries and deliver it to your home". What a boon for us seniors! Thanks a million, India Home!
India Home is a second home for many south asian seniors and helps them in several ways for their well being. I personally know Dr. Vasundhara Kalasapudi for more than 35 years and she was and always is a dedicated person who is investing all her time and energy for the well being of seniors, through various types of interesting programmes. I have the privilege of teaching French to the senior members of India home and their grand children, which we are thoroughly enjoying. I wish all the very best and long life to India Home.
My name is Nalini Juthani. I am a retired psychiatrist by profession.
Senior citizen centers are located in every state of the USA. However, in our diversified country, we need culturally sensitive non profit senior citizen centers that seniors can call their "Home". I have been part of such a non profit home called "India Home". It is located in multicultural community of Queens, New York, where large number of people who have immigrated from the Indian subcontinent reside. They speak three major languages: Gujarati, Hindi, and English. This organization is developed by Dr. Vasundhara, fondly called by staff and members as Dr. K. This organization has a very active program where members participate in Yoga, art, creative writing, Bhangara, singing, computer class, and celebration of festivals. This "Home" has been very busy conducting all the classes on zoom technology. All the seniors have rapidly learned to work with zoom, amazing?
India Home staff has been very compassionate during this lockdown time. The staff delivers the groceries to the houses of these seniors. Such an organized coordinator of India Home is Kavita Shah. The seniors adore her smiling face, and caring personality.
I have given classes to India Home seniors and currently I teach them a course on Creative writing. When this class was introduced, about 15 seniors registered. Each one said that they had no experience in writing but they were willing to learn. In less than a month, everyone started to write, whether it was a n essay, a piece of memoir, a poem or a gazal. Creativity has no bounds! In each class the grateful seniors thank India Home and its staff for enriching their lives.
I liked all the activities this non profit was providing the older adults, like yoga, learning latest computer and mobile phones skills, and engaging with their communities and peers, but the main thing I liked and have seen is the need for them to be healthy, happy, and get out of the house on a regular basis and enjoy themselves. I have seen the enthusiasm and eagerness in the aging loved ones to go out and meet their peers - giving them the much needed activity for healthy aging.
I heard of India home inc through a friend and then I learnt of it’s various social activities. This is a great organization where most of the money is used for its social events and activities. The management is highly committed to its cause and has its doors open To people of various backgrounds and all walks of life.

The Community Services offered by the India Home ( I H ) has to some extent contributed to make the life of South Asian seniors living in and around the Borough of Queens a little bit easier. IH has made it possible for the seniors to gather in the Community Centers and participate in the Centers’ Programs. IH Program Calendars are full of repeat Programs. My most preferred Program is Yoga exercises. Cultural activities are synonymous with Gujarati Songs & Dances. Let us make effort to present the most popular Bharat Natyam and such other popular Dances & Songs which are originated from Punjab, Bengal, South India and so on ( if possible). I see greater possibility of including New/ Interesting Activities in the IH calendars in the days to come. Personally I believe that the inclusion of the Programs based on the felt needs of the participating Senior Citizens in the monthly calendars will help enhance the prestige as well as status of the India Home in future. Let all of the India Home Stakeholders remain very much Positive about the good future of this already reputed Organization.
