Independence Care System, has become the lifeline to my everyday living. When I sat on a wheelchair in 2004, the world just stopped. My life became a non ending survival, one without purpose. It was in 2005 when someone mentioned Independence Care System. I figure it was going to be a pointless organization, lots of talk, not any solutions to my pressing needs. I took a chance, not because I believed, but becuse of my daily inactivity, apathy, and boredoom. The best decision I could have ever made
Within a week of becoming a member, I was attending evening social programs. I was interested in the Writing Workshop, Movies@ICS, Friday Night Hangout, and Karaoke@ICS. Well, after five (5) years I have yet to hear of any other organization's program that can compare . Especially when the members are their priority. Their health, social activities, and progress in their home and surroundings. The groups ICS have developed, are member-suggested and, in many instances, instructed. In fact, ICS is always asking members for new ideas. ICS has a fierce loyalty to its members, and will go through great lengths to prove it. They are the family that keeps on giving.
Independence Care System gave me a life I thought was beyond my reach. There are no way to give my thanks, or my appreciation to the staff, members, and to the programs that have become part of my new and improved life.

Causes: Community Health Systems, Health, Health Care, Home Health Care
Mission: ICS programs are based on three fundamental beliefs about people with disabilities:
1. They can take the lead role in managing their own life.
2. They need medical services occasionally, and supportive services for daily living.
3. Their preferences must be recognized when designing home care programs.
Target demographics: Adults 18 years or older, living in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens or Brooklyn, be Medicaid eligible, and meet the nursing home level of care.
Programs: Ics is a partially capitated medicaid managed long-term care organization which supported 6,159 eligible low income adults with severe disabilities or whom are elderly; who require more than 120 days of long term care, remain at home and participate fully in community life.
