Mission: Imagine la's mission is to end the cycle of family homelessness and poverty by mobilizing trained volunteer mentors, public and private resources, and communities who understand that a roof over one's head is merely the starting point to a better life.
Programs: Imagine la's family empowerment and montorship model begins after a family has been placed in long term "permanent" housing. Each family is matched with an imagine la professional family team manager (ftm) and a team of trained volunteer mentors from the community for between one to two years. Together, the ftm and the mentor team provide stability, relationships, and resources to build life skills, financial wellness skills, employment, career development and education assistance and consistent mentorship / friendship / encouragement for every member of the family to help them maintain housing, increase stability, and thrive. We served 41 families (119 individuals) and 114 mentors in 2017.
I have been volunteering with Imagine LA and have been through its mentor training program. Imagine LA's program really works. Mentor teams help families learn skills and habits that help the families get back on their feet after being homeless and experiencing all sorts of trauma. The mentor teams and families actually enjoy working together because it's productive and the Imagine LA staff builds in time for everyone to take a break and have fun too. The social workers who lead the whole program are professional and everything's well organized. Highly recommend.
