Causes: Recreational Clubs, Sports

Mission: "Helping Vets With Chess". We not only directly aide veterans with the therapeutic aspects of chess, we also fundraise via chess activities for veteran and 1st responder nonprofit organizations.

Results: 2016 Highlights • USCF tournaments run – 32 • USCF ICV rated games – 815 starting 5/01/2016 • VA/ICV joint veteran tournaments – 1 • VA Hospital Bi-Weekly Chess Recreational Therapy Programs - 3 • Nonrated games at ICV tournaments. Approximately 250 • Illinois veteran homes visited – 1 • Expos and Conventions booths manned – 2 • Veteran organization clubs formed – 2 • National PR exposure – 2 2017 Highlights • USCF Rated Tournaments - 46 with 603 players • Several unrated tournaments (Data unavailable) • Chess workshop with NM Len Weber - 1 • Community Chess Workshop - 1 • VA programs in progress – 2 • Community chess tournaments – 2 • Chicago Abilities Expo Chess Challenge Tables • Major Sponsor for A Warrior’s Mind, NFP. • Minor contributor to Chicago Veterans, NFP • Donated Chess supplies to numerous veteran organizations 2018 Highlights • USCF Rated Tournaments - 44 with 464 players • Several unrated tournaments (Data unavailable) • Chess Workshop. Cancelled due to loss of venue. • Community Chess Workshop - 1 • Expos and Conventions booths manned – 5 • Donated Chess supplies to numerous veteran organizations • Note- There are several more events and organization promotions that ICV supported this year that did not make this highlight list. These were not tracked with Eventbrite and were subsequently forgotten.   2019 Highlights Tournaments • 53 US Chess Rated Tournaments/656 Players/197 Sections • Unknown Nonrated Tournaments. Believed to be roughly half of rated. Major Events Booth Supported • Chicago Abilities Expo • Native American Veteran National Meet-up • Promenade Mall Chess & Coffee Event • 3 Homeless Veteran Stand downs • US Army Reserve 472nd Chemical Battalion • Oak Street Heath Community Health Fairs VAMC Programs ongoing • Hines VAMC RCF -1st & 3rd Tuesday, 2:30 - 4pm, Since 2013 Forest Park Veteran Center. • Weekly Wednesday 2:00pm - 4pm, Since 12/05/2018. • Veteran Community Resource (Homeless Vets) chess program scheduled monthly every 1st/3rd Thursdays. • Evanston Vet Center Chess Club- Chess sets donated, Intro classes conducted. 2020 Major Initiatives • VA Golden/Valor Games event addition. Phase 1 complete. Petition the addition of chess as an event in Paralympics. Event added. In next Intl Paralympics. Phase 2 in progress. Influence the VA to add chess as an event. • Operation: Play Chess. In Progress. Magnetic chess sets to deployed US Troops and Cook County veteran court chess program participants.
