I am a volunteer and donor for IcingSmiles.org that provide Birthday & Celebration cakes for kids with severe medical issues and their siblings. Sometimes it's a celebration of making it to their next birthday or the end of their chemo treatments, or another reason to give a smile. We give families happy moments to cherish with their little ones.
I have been a Sugar Angel for almost 10years. Each cake or cookie order I create helps the families celebrate their child for one day. Pure joy.
Our family was so blessed by Icing Smiles for two years! The birthday cakes were so beautiful, it was hard to cut a piece! The taste was de-li-cious! Thanks to all the volunteers who make birthdays so special by making personalized birthday cakes! Icing Smiles is a very worthy cause and we continue to support this organization. I’ve been a volunteer baker (aka Sugar Angel) for a few years now. I have ran a home bakery business and was working at a Children’s Hospital in pediatric oncology research when I came across Icing Smiles. I was so excited to find an organization that bridged 2 of my passions - making cakes, and caring for sick kids. I’ve had the opportunity to bake several cakes, and every single one has had a huge impact on me. A cake seems like such a simple thing, but seeing a child’s face light up makes it mean so much!

Icing Smiles has wonderful, talented bakers that provided beautiful custom cakes on two occasions for my kids. They were easy to work with and the cakes tasted amazing!
My daughter was born with a life threatening condition. Every day includes medical therapies, treatments, and/or appointments. Hospital stays are a familiar experience. Icing Smiles has been a blessing to us. Granting my daughter a beautiful birthday cake that she and her friends love, while relieving me of the time and expense to make or buy it myself.

Icing smiles has brought a smile on my little girls face ever year since she was born. My son has always felt left out bc my daughter is special needs and he feels like she gets more attention. In 2013 my son Matthew just turned two years old when he was diagnosed with LCH disease a rare disease where his own organism attacks his body and we started six months of chemotherapy I discovered icingsmile from a brochure that was in the hospital and I contacted them They were very kind and I asked them for a cake for Pocoyo's third birthday, it was so delicious. But his body did not respond to the chemotherapy, the oncologists decided to give him a stronger dose of chemotherapy and the LCH seemed to be gone. We celebrated his fourth birthday with a icingsmile cake loved his cake Matthew was very happy but after a year he started to feel mul ma again the oncologist said the LCH had come back stronger than ever they switched him to the most aggressive chemo left and there were few good results the oncologists from Cohen Children's no longer had any way to help Matthew, they transferred us to the city at the hospital Sloan Katherin Cancer Center there a research oncologist from LCH presented us with an investigational treatment that seemed not very promising but it was our only option so we venture, if we have been seven years and thank god and the oncologists matthew has not relapsed the oncologists said that it is our decision whether to continue the treatment or not because it is possible that without him the LCH will return or maybe not! so we will not risk it and continue with the research treatment.
My son was a st. Jude patient for several years. After one of his relapses. We got in contact with icing smiles and they set us up with a local bakery that could make a cake for my son's 13th birthday. He loved Beatleguese, so the bakery made a cute cake to reflect his interest. It was a big hit! He loved his cake and it helped make a positive memory during his illness. This is a wonderful charity!
Icings Smiles is a amazing. The feeling I get with connecting to the children we bake for way exceeds my expectations. They are amazing.
Icing smiles helped my family celebrate my granddaughters 1st birthday. One the doctors thought she would not see but thank God she did. The baker was so sweet she inquired about the theme of the party and did an awesome job. The cake not only looked good but tasted even better. This organization helps to put the smile on the faces of some many families. I hope there around for many years to come!

My grandson Eli was born at 23 weeks 3days and has overcome many challenges. He is now 4 years and every year except this one bue to hospitalization, Icing Smiles has grant the gift of a wonderful birthday cake for his celebration. Icing Smiles was amazing! My son was one year post kidney transplant and we were having a party to celebrate his life! They were courteous and helpful. They set us up with the local baker who was donating the cake. Familia bakery was wonderful! They delivered the cake, it was on time, and it was delicious! We were so very grateful to Icing Smiles! Because that is just what they gave!
I am one of their Icing Angels. This is a great program for professional bakers to donate their time and talents to create a birthday cake for a child and family with special or medical needs. It is such an honor to be involved with the 'giving back spirit' and making a Childs life, at least for this birthday, seem a bit back to normal from the current struggles the family may be dealing with.
I did projects with Icing Smiles at a different bakery that I worked for, and I really feel like they are out there helping kids (and their families) to make these kids have an excellent birthday. I am so excited to get to work with them again at my own bakery!
Icing Smiles fulfills a very unique community need that is not widely talked about; helping families celebrate their children when medical challenges disrupt their lives. The ability to have a birthday party, celebrate a graduation or an achievement in a child’s life is a gift that some families can’t do because of hospital stays or illnesses or compromised immune systems. Icing Smiles provides a gift of an exceptional cake or beautifully iced cookies for these special moments and memories for these families.

I have been a volunteer "Sugar Angel" for 9 years and have donated dozens of smiles. It truly is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. These children and families are so appreciative (and deserving). I will never forget little Emma who gave me the BEST hug/squeeze ever when I delivered her cake. Such a wonderful organization to be a part of. I am so honored to deliver smiles to these critically I'll children and their siblings.
As a home baker, I eagerly wait every day for my next call to action.
I’ve been blessed and privileged to be able to make a difference a few times in the lives of little ones affected by the cruel illness.
There is nothing more impactful than seeing the response and reactions when these baked treats are delivered.
Some of my deliveries have been the last birthday cake that a child got to experience. It is a truly humbling and grounding gesture and experience that cannot be surpassed by anything else.
I am very thankful and grateful to icingsmiles for this initiative and also including home bakers like me find a purpose in what we enjoy doing.
I have had the honor of doing three cakes for this awesome organization and working on my fourth one now. It gives me the chance to pay forward and have fun doing it. I have been blessed by being involved with this non profit since 2018.. My first call to action was in 2019 and have done 3 cakes since.. I cannot express enough how much this company means to me to be involved in it!! I was blessed with 3 healthy children and cannot even imagine how having a sick child takes a toll on the child and the family as well. This organization takes a tough situation for a family and gives them a moment where joy can prevail… I love the opportunity to be a sugar angel and can’t wait to do it again!!! I never had a good experience with any other institution as I did and still do with Icing Smiles. They show empathy to people whom they serve. The whole process to put a smile on someone in need goes so quickly and smoothly. Applying and Securing a baker is done on a time relatively short, the follow-up before and after getting a smile is really done very well. The communication is very clear and timely and mostly very precise.
The Icing Smiles took me from somewhere and put me (I mean my family) to another level, I am doubting that I could be able to make my kids so happy at least once every year. Kudos

Icing Smiles did my son's second birthday cake right after he got out of the hospital after a 60-day stay. We heard about Icing Smiles from the Child Life Specialist at the hospital, and could not have been happier. Our baker was not only a wonderful, kind person, but she created an amazing "crab cake" for my crustacean-loving son. He just turned 10, and still talks about that amazing (and delicious) special cake he had for his 2nd birthday. This is a wonderful organization that brings many smiles to sick children and their families.

Spreading love by baking a cake for a young lady whose brother has leukemia touched my heart. Seeing the smile on her face and her light up when she realized I had put a saying on her cake she really wanted was just icing on the cake. I wish I lived in an area I could bake more for icing smiles.
In one of the toughest years of our life, Icing Smiles showed up and made my special needs daughter’s 6th birthday one of the most magical days of her life. She was in awe of her amazing unicorn cake and we loved every bite of it. The amazing people of Icing Smiles even delivered my daughters cake to our house even though the baker who made this wonderful cake for us lived out of town, all because we didn’t have gas money to come pick it up and they wanted to make sure my daughter got to enjoy her amazing day. I have been a Sugar Angel for Icing Smiles 4 times. It is such a joy bake and make a difference in a famililies life when they are struggling with a criticially ill child. All my interactions with the Icing Smiles organization have been wonderful. The continue to strive to do more in the most efficient way.
8 years ago my son was diagnosed with stage 4 Burkitt lymphoma. He turned 13 while on treatment and amidst the chaos and hardship that those days brought, sugar angel Candice brightened up his day with a Canucks themed birthday cake, a stick signed by the Canucks players and some goodies for our little hockey fan. Almost a year later, Candice once again came up with a birthday cake to our supportive sibling. We are so grateful for her and Icing smiles.
I have been volunteering with Icing Smiles for a few years now. I love that they focus in bringing smiles to children that are going through a hard time and their families. As a parent with a child born with an illness, I can attest of how important it is to celebrate milestones. My son's birthdays are very important. It is a reminder of how much he has overcome.

Icing Smiles is absolutely amazing. My son has a brain AVM that is not operable. We didn't find out about it until he was 15 when it ruptured and bled. Since that time, he has been in and out of the hospital undergoing surgery, chemo treatments and radiation as we try to find #ACureforKyler. My son never asks for anything. He loves pigs. The special love and personalization that has gone into the pig theme cakes he received for his 17th and 18th birthday are priceless. His Sugar Angels made him feel so very special. They are true angels in his eyes. Getting a personalized pig cake has meant the world to my son. We always have trouble getting him to eat, but his Icing smiles birthday cake was definitely an exception. He said his 18th cake was the best cake he ever tasted! Words do not adequately describe how much Icing Smiles helped his spirits and attitude as we navigate this difficult road. Just thinking about this group makes my heat soar. My family and I are very grateful to this non-profit. Thank you Icing Smiles for bringing a smile to my son's face.

We loved our son's birthday cake! Our baker went over and beyond with the design! Our son has celiac disease and she did everything gluten-free with the cake. Though GF baked goods are not usually as tasty as typical cakes, that was not the case here! Everyone at the party raved about how good the cake was. It’s been over a year I’ve been volunteering with Icing Smiles. The team is so compassionate and does their job so well. They are truly next to no other organisation I’ve worked with.
I received a call to action and it brightened my day to be able to give a sibling of a sick child their special cake. Having a child who is chronically ill has taught me that more often than not, their sibling(s) deserves a little limelight from time to time. Icing Smiles not only does that for the ill child but offers a cake for a sibling. I wish this organization was around when my child was ill. It is an invaluable organization that helps ease the monotony that goes along with health care issues in any form. As a parent, it is amazing to have people to turn to when you are exhausted, weary and need to come up with birthday cake ideas. A beautiful, no-cost to the parent cake, is a blessing. I have never been more moved than when I am asked to bake a cake for an ill child in my community. It is rewarding to see the joy on the recipient's face, and usually tears on the face of the child's parents. I really love being a Sugar Angel!

It is amazing how something as seemingly simple as a cake can help these kids forget about all they are going through and have wonderful, sweet memories of their special day, and their special cake, designed especially for them. I've never felt so proud as to be so privileged to be part of such a worthy Organization and the best people in the world. Our founder has created more smiles and given happiness to so many people and for no other reason than to simply allow children the privilege of feeling like a regular kid. Thank you to Icing Smiles for some of the most wonderful memories I'll ever have. Our pay is better than any CEO; we get to give a child and their family some happiness and an Icing Smile.
I donated to Icing Smiles and received acknowledgement then and I continue to receive updates on what they are doing. I receive both a general e-newsletter and a letter specifically for donors. This group works with an extremely passionate group of cake artists who volunteer their time to make some of the most incredible cakes I've ever seen. Their Facebook page is full of gratitude from families as well as bakers. You can tell it makes a difference with the families.
I have had the honor of being a Sugar Angel for 4 years and have had 5 calls to action. Being able to use my talents to create something fun and delicious for a family going through a horrible experience lets me help in some small way and hopefully gives them a little bit of brightness and normalcy in their life.
Icing Smiles is changing lives daily. I have received a cake in memory of my son who passed and the joy they bring during such troubling times is more than words can explain. I am forever grateful for this organization.
Icing Smiles is genuinely one of the most important non profits I've ever encountered..to give these children and their families a moment of smiles, of "normalcy" is critical when it comes to constant care and worry for a child. Every child deserves a reason, big or small to celebrate and I'm so happy to be a small part of it.

I am a baker volunteer for Icing Smiles and I can’t say enough positive things about this organization! The mission is spectacular, and the people and administrators involved are splendid to work with. The smile on families faces when you deliver your gift to them are the most rewarding of all.

I volunteer for Icing Smiles on the events team and social media. It is an amazing very well run organization that really knows how to utilize it's resources to support the mission. To some people it may seem like just a cake but to kids it means so much! My own children plan their birthday cakes all year and kids that we support who have critical illnesses do not even have time to think about a cake or the ability to eat regular cakes due to food restrictions. Our bakers know how to accommodate many food restrictions and allergies so that more kids are able to enjoy the magic that celebration cakes bring to them. Families have to endure so much because of a critical illness and they deserve to receive a smile every once in a while and Icing Smiles is there to make it happen.
I was able to help a little boy on his first birthday and I was honored to be able to make a family happy.
I volunteer for Icing Smiles because what they're doing—donating custom cakes for critically ill children and their families—brings such joy to families during such a hard time. The Admin team is so kind, welcoming, and truly does this out of the goodness of their own hearts. I love hearing the families share their stories of how Icing Smiles impacted their lives and seeing the smiles on the kids' faces when they receive their cakes! You can see how much it means to them. Icing Smiles is a wonderful nonprofit!
I started volunteering with Icing Smiles and did my first fun cake 2 years ago. Since, I got involved on the admin side and absolutely love reading all of the inspiring stories that come out from bakers and families across the country. I also attended the annual Buttercream Ball fundraiser that allowed me to meet more of the kids we serve in person and see their smiling faces despite their hard times! Everyone is super easy to work with from a baker and admin side. Love Icing Smiles!

You don’t know how much she has been threw these last few months losing a son to cancer at such a young age!!! You said it was your busiest time of year!! Then ask if you could do his birthday?!?!??!! Do u know what she is feeling right now?!?! I CANT BELIEVE HOW HEARTLESS YOU ARE!!!!!! You better hope you never have to b in this situation!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been so honored and blessed to be a sugar angel twice. I love what I do , creating sweet moments and smiles. When I heard about icing smiles I couldn't wait to sign up. Can't think of a better way to share my gift by creating smiles for these families and their ill children. It's a wonderful idea involving heart and pure giving. I have done a cake for Icing Smiles and raised a little money for them as well. This is a great organization and I was honored to help. Meeting people dealing with a sick child is humbling and this organization provides something for these kids to smile. Their birthdays aren't always what they should be and the family already has so much to deal with. A cake may seem like something small, but it is something that the child can look forward to and enjoy and one less thing the family has to worry about.
I was honored to make a cake for a local child! There was nothing more satisfying, than making a family happy with something given out of love!

Icing Smiles is a top notch organization. It's so much more than 'just cake'! Being able to bring a smile to a child and their family is a rewarding experience beyond anything I've ever encountered!
When I made my first Icing Smiles cake, I was SO excited! I poured my heart and soul into it. I was so moved by this little boy's story and I was proud to be able to give this gift to him. What I wasn't expecting was the fact that I got out of this gift far more than what I gave! This young boy inspired me with his strength, faith and positive attitude! Here he is fighting for his life against brain cancer, and yet he was SO happy, SO full of life, SO loving! It really puts your life into perspective!
These cakes that we make put a smile on the child's face. It impacts the family, the hospital staff, friends and other patients, too! We give them a brief moment where there is peace and happiness. The family doesn't have to stress over purchasing a cake, it's all taken care of! We truly help create memories that will last a lifetime!
I'm am blessed to be associated with Icing Smiles. What started as a simple gift of a cake has turned into a life-changing experience.

Icing Smiles gave me the opportunity to give back in a way that not only uses my talent but so deeply touches the heart. I was humbled to make this Superman cake for the most courageous little boy I have ever met. Seeing the look on his face and getting the biggest hug gave me more satisfaction than any thing I have ever done. Giving him the opportunity to celebrate rather than fight for just one day, it really is SO much more than cake!
I was looking for to volunteer for a children's non profit, I stumbled onto Icing Smiles and thought it was a perfect fit for me, as I love to bake and wanted to make a difference to a child.
I became a Sugar Angel, and the joy on the child's face when they saw the cake I made for them made it even sweeter.
I also love that it includes siblings as well.
The amazing creative works donated for each of these families is given free and with so much love. An amazing group that we are very proud of in our area.

I am a cake decorator and have donated 2 cakes to Icing Smiles kids. The first was for a 10 year old girl who had fought cancer for 2 years and was finally in remission, the other was a 3 year old boy who had hardly ever lived outside the hospital. The families and children were thrilled and grateful for the cakes. I could tell it meant so much to them to have something to celebrate and it changed my life to see these families who struggle and are yet so strong. I love being a volenteer for Icing Smiles.
Icing Smiles provided my family with the opportunity to have a wonderful birthday cake on my son's first birthday! The baker, Tutu Cute Cakes that they coordinated with did an over the top job and the cake tasted delicious! Everyone I talked to through during the process at Icing Smiles was incredibly helpful & so uplifting!! My son has never left the hospital, and Icing Smiles helped us have the best first birthday possible! Our nurses were incredibly appreciative as well.

I've been baking for Icing Smiles for four or five years. In that time I've been privileged to serve 14 cakes. I keep doing these cakes because I believe in the Icing Smiles mission. Many of the families we meet have precious little to smile about. If I can bring them a sweet bit of joy, I want to do that, and Icing Smiles makes that possible.

I traveled all the way from my contry to make a cake for a sick child and it felt som good to serve a chuld in need.
I have been the Kansas State sponsor for Icing Smiles for the last 4 years. I will continue to sponsor Icing Smiles as long as I live and then my son will carry on the sponsorship. We do this in honor of my husband who dearly loved kids and thought they should all be have the best cakes to celebrate a special event.
We received a beautiful cake for our son who has cystic fibrosis a couple years ago. It was his first Birthday that he wasn't in the hospital so we wanted to make his party very special he is feeding tube dependant but loved the cake and even tasted it even though he doesn't like to eat( a big deal). It was lovely and meeting the person who baked it. They are so awesome!

I have had the opportunity to do 2 icing smiles cakes! It was such a great experience! One was for a little girl turning 4. She wanted an Elsa cake....of course! When I delivered the cake she was so excited she could only whisper. I crouched down so she could get a better look, I wasn't even in the door yet! My oldest daughter had made a special lace crown for the little girl and it was on the cake. The little girl whispered "did Elsa make that for me?" Of course I answered yes! And so the fantasy started for this cute little girl. She wanted to know why Elsa and Olaf had not come with me. I told her that Olaf was always loosing his head and so Elsa had to stay with him to be sure he would stay out of mischief!!!! She just thought that was so funny. It took everything her Mom had to keep the crown on the cake till pictures were taken. Then off came the crown and I pinned it in her hair and she was now a princess and her day was complete !! It was so rewarding to do something for such a great organization!! It was humbling to see what a difference something as simple as a cake could make in a child's life! I will do as many cakes as I possibly can for this organization!!! They are AWESOME!!! ❤️Wendy

I had the opportunity to do my 1st Icing Smiles cake a few weeks ago. The reaction I received when Mom picked up the cake was one I had never experienced before, she cried tears of happiness. I have never been so happy, or emotional, being able to provide a cake for someone before. This experience is one I will never forget and hope have have many more.

I just completed my first cake with Icing Smiles. Everything was very organized, and the family I worked with was wonderful. What I especially liked was that I was given details on what the child wanted, but I was allowed some creative liberties as well. This enabled me to have some fun with the cake. Chris had been fighting Hodgkin Lymphoma since 2011. He was a fighter & an amazing young man.
I delivered his cake to him on his birthday 8-19-2015... He was all SMILES, even though he was very sick.
(Chris' party was going to be on that Saturday, the 22nd.. but his mother Michelle asked if I could have it ready on Wednesday, his bday...& I told her that I could have it ready for any day that she needed it)
God knew exactly when the cake was needed.... I am heart broken to say that Chris earned his wings on that Saturday.
I am so thankful to have met Chris...& his family :)

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to make a birthday cake for a two year old named Addilynne. Having had a child who was frequently hospitalized when she very young, I know how what a relief it is to be able to have a distraction for your sick child. I was excited to pay it forward. Icing smiles was easy to work with and I will definitely volunteer for this charity again.

I just submitted my first cake to a child in my area. It was a wonderful experience. I am so happy she loved her cake!
I was contacted by Icing Smiles to make a cake for a young girl with abdominal carcinoma. I quickly went to work. Meeting this brave and beautiful girl and seeing her reaction to the cake made my heart soar. I took with me three Girl Scouts, I am a local Troop Leader, and they taught her the Girl Scout handshake, she repeated the Scout promise and they did the friendship circle ceremony to make her an honorary Girl Scout. All together this experience was amazing and I will carry it with me forever.
I had the privilege of providing a birthday cake on behalf of Icings Smiles for a beautiful little boy (Ethan). When Ethan saw his cake, he covered his mouth with both hands while jumping up and down in excitement. The joy he expressed upon seeing his cake touched me in ways words cannot express. His mother hugged and thanked me for helping to make her little boy's birthday special. It's these moments that "baking" a difference is all about. Being called upon by Icings Smiles is truly an honor and I'm so thankful to have been blessed with the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing organization.
What a blessing and a joy for me to be able to create Connor Benjamin's Red Power Ranger cake for his 4th birthday. He is fighting leukemia and is going to win his battle, like the Power Ranger he is. This was my first cake with Icing Smiles. As a new volunteer, I just delivered my first cake for the 8th birthday of a little girl battling osteogenesis imperfecta (aka broken bone disease). I can't tell you how much it meant to see first-hand the joy it brought to her and her loving family! The hours it took to make her "snowflake" dream cake were a small price to pay to make such a dear little girl's day special. I would like to encourage the many other bakers out there, both home and professional , to volunteer for this wonderful experience. It is something I will never forget, and I look forward to being called upon again!
I cannot express what an honor it was for Jan's Sugarland of Cakes to be able to make Jannine's dream cake for her 5th birthday! Such a beautiful little girl with eyes so blue, it was hard to imagine all that she has endured in her young life. I can assure you that while she received the Frozen Themed Cake that she wanted, it was I that received the blessing ! Thank you everyone at Icing Smiles for all that you do and thank you for giving me such a beautiful memory to carry with me the rest of my life.
This was our first time receiving an Icing Smile for my son with severe brain damage. It was his fifth birthday and we were looking for a way to make it extra special. Every aspect of the process from the application to the communication to the pick up to the cake itself was fantastic and so easy!! We were amazed at the creativity of the cake design --it far exceeded our expectations, as did the taste! I nearly burst into tears when I first saw the cake! Talk about adding to the excitement of my son's birthday party!! This cake has helped us create special memories for him that we could not have accomplished with my usual humble homemade cakes. This was my first time baking for icing smiles and it was by far the most rewarding experience of my baking career. I was able to donate a cake to a lovely young lady and I gained so much from the experience. This was my first time baking for an Icing Smiles recipient. I had a wonderful experience meeting the child and the family who received the cake. The child was only a year old but his family was so appreciative! I was truly moved by this family's story. Really made my week to bring smiles to such a wonderful family that had been through so much!
today i delivered my third cake for Icing Smiles. a little background--i am a home baker and pretty much self taught in cake decorating. when i see the cakes being donated on various posts i never feel as though my cakes would be as great. i know, i know, it's about the children but you know what i mean! i guess i always worried that a child would be disappointed. Anyway, when i received pictures of the little boy with his cake--and i saw that smile--true, genuine happiness--all of my self doubt went out the window.

Can i just say this is my second opportunity to bake for a child from this group of great bakers. Every time is just as exciting as the first. My first one was a year ago for a 16 years old boy who loved Miami Heat and yesterday I got to bake for a precious 2 year old who loves Mickey and got to meet TJ. The smile on each child's face and the reaction from parents who are forever grateful is payment enough and makes what I love to do so easy! I count it an honor and a privilege every time I get chosen to do what I do by baking and being a part of these families life and memories. It brings me great joy to relieve a parents worries about their child who has health issues and give them a few hours of happiness. what a BLESSING! I volunteered to be a baker for Icing Smiles, and I got the privilege of making a cake for 16 year old Ashlynn, who has two younger brothers who are affected by a childhood illness called mitochondrial disease. This wonderful experience not only allowed me to do what I love, baking and decorating a cake, but also allowed me to meet an incredible family, and made me aware of the mito disease which I had never heard about. It felt amazing to provide this cake for this family, and being it was my first call to action for Icing Smiles, I know I will never forget this particular cake or the family. And also as for Icing Smiles, my NC State Representative was very helpful and involved with the entire process & was in contact from start to finish. I so hope I get the opportunity to do this again.
Icing Smiles is an amazing organization that I am very proud to be a part of. I just had the honor to answer my second call to action and it was just as great of an experience as the first. This organization provides such a great service to children in need! What a wonderful way to be able to give back even

organization is a blessing for these children and their families. I hope to be a part of Icing Smiles for a long time.
It was a HUGE honor for me to be able to be a sugar angel. But i HAD to come and write about the experience from the volunteer side. i absolutely LOVED the fact that my icing smiles rep was super considerate of my time. They gave me a quite a bit of notice, and it was nice that they put a serving size limit on the cake. We all want to go above and beyond for these families, but it was nice for it to be acknowledged that we are donating. Everyone was really appreciative. I cant wait for the next cake!
My first experience with Icing Smiles has been an exceptional joy ride! I had the pleasure of making a Mickey Mouse Dream Cake for a baby boy turning 2. I love this organization! The service it provides is so simple but impacts the lives of so many people in such a HUGE way. I just happen to find this organization while surfing Facebook. When I read what they offered I immediately signed up and within a 2-3 weeks I was being called to action. I wholeheartedly welcomed this opportunity. My only concern was that I would not be able to make a cake deserving enough to be delivered to my child!
I spent days, looking and searching for cake ideas. Drawing out each tier and making sure I had all the colors, products and whatever I would need to make this the perfect cake. I didn't have the pleasure of personally delivering the cake but they sent me a picture of him and the cake and he looked very happy. I bake for the love of baking and the smiles that it put on my customer faces, but this smile is one that I will never forget!! It takes the cake!

Icing Smiles is a wonderful organization! I've been an official member for a little over a year now and have answered two calls to action. The first was for a delivery of two cakes for a baker in another city who had sick children of her own and couldn't make the delivery. It was at that moment I knew I was in the right place! The look on the mom's face was priceless--and I didn't even make the cakes! I couldn't wait to get the actual call for me to do one!
My first "real" call for cake came in March 2014 for a pirate ship cake! I was so excited but it seemed at that moment, God had other plans for me as He delivered a pretty serious ice storm to my town that knocked out my power for many hours when I was to be decorating this cake! It broke my heart to turn it down at the last minute and ask for another baker to take it over.
The next call I received was for a birthday cake for a young man who was having a transplant. I was so excited and then the call came that it was going to have to wait a bit because they had decided to wait til David's 100th day after his transplant to have a celebration. So I waited again.... and as the day was approaching, I got the dreaded message that David had passed away! Tracey asked me in that email if I would consider doing a Celebration of Life cake for David should his family want one. Of course I said YES!! That event was scheduled for August 9th, 2014 and I was able to present David's momma with an ocean themed two tier red velvet cake with a giant Ocean Sunfish on top of the cake. It was a challenge to do as I had never formed a fish out of gumpaste before but his mom loved it as it looked just like the pillow that David used for comfort during his early childhood and during his battle with his illness. Now it became a comfort for his family and to have the fish on top of the cake was extremely fitting.
I look forward to the day that I can do another cake for this wonderful organization and I'm very proud to be a part of something that brings joy to so many others!
Being the first time that I created a cake for a little boy, I really did not know what to expect. He requested a bobcat tractor cake. I had such a great time decorating and then delivering the cake to his birthday party. Make a Wish volunteers were so welcoming and the little boy enjoyed everything that was going on for him. I would volunteer again for Icing Smiles....seeing the happiness and joy on the face of those children who are sick, is the greatest gift.
I recently had the please of working with icing smiles to donate a Mine Craft cake to a young boy with autism, who had twin brothers a terminal condition. They were so wonderful to work with and I hope I am contacted again soon to work with another family and this beautiful organization.
I have had the pleasure of doing 4 cakes for Icing Smiles, three of them have been for a sick child and one was for a sibling. Each experience has been wonderful and the families have been so great to work with. They can't think you enough for doing something for them but I feel it is me who has been given a great experience in providing smiles for these kids and families who are going through so much. The last one I did a couple weeks ago was for a little girl who was turning 1 and in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh receiving chemo for leukemia. I got the chance to meet the little girl and she just smiled the whole time even with what she was going through herself.
I was honored to be asked to bake the Ronald McDonald house of Pittsburgh 35th anniversary cake. It was a wonderful experience to work with icing smiles and the rmh . I can't wait to get my next call to action. I'm so glad to be able to share my work with others.
I am so thankful for the opportunity Icing Smiles gave me. I made a Elmo theme cake for a little girl Hannah. I am so grateful for meeting Hannah and her family. Hannah is one special little girl and has touched the hearts of so many homes, including mine. It is amazing to see and follow her story everyday. I am so thankful for the wonderful opportunity that Icing Smiles gave me to create a smile for a wonderful little boy and his family. I baked and decorated a two tiered cake themed in one of the little boy's favorite characters. I so much enjoyed meeting the family and presenting my cake in person. I am thankful to Icing Smiles for having the confidence in me to offer this assignment. This is a great, heart-warming organization that makes a difference in people's lives.

We had the honor of working with Eric from Denny's 5th Street Bakery in Bloomington, MN. The cake he made for our son Tyler is AMAZING! It is so obvious that Eric spent a lot of time on this cake and my son just loves it. It is beautiful! We have never had a birthday cake in our household of that magnitude and I am so impressed with the friendliness and professionalism I encountered at the bakery. Thank you Icing Smiles for getting us in touch with this bakery! This was a fantastic experience and it made my sons day!
I have had the priveledge of making two "fun" cakes for Icing Smiles, Inc. and words can't even describe the incredible feeling I have gotten knowing that I have made the two children's life just a little bit brighter. These cakes are non tiered but that doesn't mean that I don't have the ability to create a fun cake with the theme that they choose. The look on their faces when they saw the cakes that I made was priceless! It gave me such a good feeling to know that for just a short while, they can forget about all the pain and suffering they have had to endure with their illness. I am so honored to be a part of this amazing organization and I can't wait to get my next call.
We at Ragan's HOPE Foundation, have come to truly appreciate this organization, whose bakers, nationally, go above and beyond expectations. Icing Smiles bakers, have provided Ragan's HOPE with some of most incredible cakes delivered to children, whose families we support. I remember, I was awe-struck upon seeing the first cake we were able to see delivered. Kudos!! Icing Smiles.
I was contacted to do a "fun" cake which means that it was for a sibling in the family of a very sick/terminally ill child. The "fun" doesn't have to be a tiered cake, but I put together a large stacked shaped cake in the theme of Bubble Guppies for a 2nd birthday sibling. This was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I have volunteered at many organizations and this by far exceeded my expectations. Icing Smiles is so organized in how they handle everything and giving you every detail you need to know. The look on the face of a 2 year old when she saw the Bubble Guppies and smiled really HUGE and started naming them without any help.....PRICELESS!!!! What this organization is doing to help make a special day for a sibling or a sick child is truly a God sent blessing and I am so glad to be a part of it!! Made my whole Father's Day Weekend worth it!!!!
I've been asked to make a "fun" cake on three different occasions for Icing Smiles. It's been one of the best experiences of my life. I've been blessed with three children of my own. One of them has Type 1Diabetes and it takes a lot of energy and effort to manage. I can't imagine how tired these families must be. So, if I can help them by providing a cake and making a child smile, it lifts my spirit along with theirs. Everyone should experience this.
I volunteered to be a baker for this wonderful, giving organization. Everyone deserves a happy birthday and when everything else seems to not be going quite right, being surprised with something especially for you to remind you that you are loved and remembered is a memory in motion. It's not just a memory for the children who receive these cakes for the families for years to come.
I have had the privilege to create for them twice and they were two of the best experiences I've had as a professional baker. I look forward to doing many more cakes for them. Giving is the best reward as it in turn can cause others to pay it forward as well. We need more smiles!
I was awarded the opportunity to create a Dream Cake for a special little girl named Kennadi. When I delivered the cake, I was able to meet sweet Kennadi and her mom and family and spend some time with them. Kennadi's mother cried when she saw the cake. I listened to her tell about Kennadi's hospitalizations and some of the difficulties caring for Kennadi, but the love she has for her daughter is incredible and truly unconditional. Kennadi is very blessed to have her mother, that is for sure. The purpose of an Icing Smiles cake is to provide an escape from the worries of caring for a sick child & to instead provide positive lasting memories...and I think Kennadi and her family had a super fun day ahead of them with the special treat of a Fun & Yummy cake. So glad that I was awarded the opportunity to bring some smiles and joy to this awesome family.
Three of our children have received cakes from Icing Smiles, 2 as medically fragile children, and one as a sibling to them. The bakers have gone out of their way to make our kids so happy! I never dreamed anything so positive would come of this. If I could share pictures here I would - we had requested a simple sheet cake, and received one that far exceeded anything we could have dreamed. Our kids will never forgot it.
I am so glad I found Icing Smiles! This is an organization full or loving and caring volunteers, who will go to great lengths to put a smile on the face of a child or family member, who at the moment may not feel as though there is a lot to smile about. As a part of Icing Smiles, I cherish the interactions with the families we serve. The stories of struggle and triumph they share brings me back to a place of thankfulness every time! We are here to bake a difference, I just hope the families we serve know the difference they make in our lives.

I had the opportunity to provide an Icing Smiles cake for the first time! The original baker had an emergency and was unable to fulfill the request and I was able to step in and I am so glad that I did! We had the great pleasure of creating and delivering a cake to Hunter, who was celebrating his first birthday. Hunter's first year of life has been overwhelming at times, but his family welcomed us into their lives with open arms. This was such an emotional and amazing experience for us. I was contacted to make a cake for Ethan, a little boy that was turning 5 years old on 03/08/14; He has been battling a congenital heart defect and to me it was a honor to provide him with a super cute birthday cake with Avengers theme. The look on his eyes when he saw a picture of the cake ( since it was still in the box when I delivered) was priceless. his mom was very happy as well and that made my day!
That was the 2nd cake I had the pleasure to make for icing smiles and I look forward for the next one.
I have now had the IMMENSE pleasure of making & delivering 4 cakes for Icing Smiles - I truly cannot even begin to describe how it feels to help put a smile on children's faces when they're going through the toughest times in their young lives! Our son was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks before his 13th birthday. We were given a referral to Icing Smiles and that is exactly what they provided for him. He was in the hospital receiving chemotherapy for the week of his birthday and the beautiful cake that was provided for him brought a huge benefit to his room. Not only did he have delicious cake to share with all of the doctors, nurses and therapists that came into his room on his birthday, but he had wonderful memories of something that was special just for him on his birthday. We were beyond thrilled with our experience and our hearts were filled with the joy on our son's birthday. Thank you!
We had such a wonderful experience with icing smiles and our baker. Everything was beyond what I expected. Our daughter Astella had a tough start to life and fought 140 days in the hospital. She was born with a large abdominal wall defect (similar to gastroscisis and omphalocele). But she is now home and thriving. Her 1st birthday was such a celebration. Hearing at 28 weeks gestation that survival was unlikely, we never allowed ourselves to think of her 1st birthday. Our theme was Stars and sparkle and the baker really captured our thoughts. We have received dream cakes for many of our Wish children. They are always "over the top" in design, looks and taste. Icing Smiles is an amazing organization to be involved with. Their bakers put their heart and soul into each of the cakes that they create for our amazing children. Thank you just doesn't say enough.
I heard about Icing Smiles on Facebook. I have always loved cake decorating and it became my profession about 4 years ago. I recommended to a family friend of ours to sign up to receive a cake. Our friends had an older daughter, who was five, and had two little girls one year apart from each other in 2011 and 2012. Both of those sweet little baby girls were born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Our friends' first daughter succumbed to the disease when she was only 4 months old, just after her Mom found out that she was pregnant again. Their newest little girl is thriving. She has done wonderfully through all of her surgeries and just celebrated her first birthday! As you can imagine, it's hard for a 5 year old to understand why she can't hold her baby sister again or why her other baby sister has to stay in the hospital so much. Icing Smiles donated a cake to her, to show her how special of a big sister she is!
I finally received the opportunity to "Pay if Forward" for a little boy in NC. I'd been waiting to get my email that someone needed me to make their birthday a little brighter. Last week I finally got to make a cake and deliver to the sweetest little 10 year old boy. He was the smallest, weakest, happiest, thankful, joyous little 10 year old boy that I had ever been honored to meet! My goal is to make a donation to Icing Smiles at least once a year. I feel selfish for even feeling so much gratification for something so small from me, but it's incredible to these children. I feel honored to be a part of such a wonderful organization and I am glad that I've finally found a way to help children by doing what I love to do.
If any part of you feels like you have a calling to participate, I promise you that it's an experience and a memory that you will never forget.
I loved, loved, loved being called out to make a cake for Icing Smiles. Just to see these kids light up from a cake is just utterly amazing. God has blessed me with a talent and I am so happy to be able to bless others with it. Meeting the family who received the cake was just more of a blessing!!
I joined Icing Smiles last spring and was excited to be called to make a sewing themed cake for a lovely young cowgirl's 8th birthday clelbration this past Sunday. As a seamstress with 40 years experience this was a cake near and dear to my heart. I had so much fun creating a sewing machine, spools of thread, measuring tapes, buttons. But my favorite thing was a pin cushion with tiny pins and needles, all made of sugar!

We are a commercial cake shop, specializing in one of a kind cakes. We were contacted by the state representative for Icing Smiles to create a unique cake for one of their clients. After understanding the family's request, we were put in direct contact with the family. They provided details on the child who was receiving the cake, her interests and things she liked. We arranged for a pick up time at our shop.
When the mother picked up the cake, she became very emotional...tears and hugs for our staff.

Bonnie from Icing Smiles created an amazing Skylanders themed birthday cake for my son, Isaiah. It not only looked amazing, but tasted amazing as well! It truly brought a huge smile to Isaiah's face. We lost Isaiah's older brother, Eli (age 7), to cancer in January of 2012. This organization realizes that it's not just the kids fighting that need a smile, but their siblings as well. I am so thankful to Bonnie and to Icing Smiles for this amazing opportunity to give Isaiah such an amazing birthday cake!
Icing smiles is the most awesome non profit organisation I know. It is simply amazing what we bakerr, volunteers and everybody else is able to bring a child on their special day. I was so overwelmed when I the first time heard from it. Know I am a part of it and I couldn't be more proud!
I have been pleased to donate to this charity. They are completely volunteer run and nearly every penny raised goes to match up children with bakers. The energy and love the bakers put into their time shows in every cake and I cry every time I read one of the amazing stories they share. Great charity to volunteer for, and one of the best for donations - almost no overhead!!

Icing Smiles has had a huge impact in the Washington DC/Baltimore area. Not only have we served individual families with Smiles - but we have served them on larger levels to local pediatric centers such as Georgetown University, Walter Reed , Mt. Washington, Johns Hopkins, AAFB Fisher House, and many more. Our partnership with The Starlight Foundation has reached out into the community and allowed us to create Smiles for their kids as well! Having participating in various functions with Icing Smiles such as their annual Gala I have had the honor of hearing first hand from families and medical workers who have seen the impact a cake can have on a child... the joy it brings to them to know that someone, someone who doesn't even know them, cares about them and wants to give them a reason to Smile. If that's not worth giving my time - I don't know what is!
Icing Smiles has been a real blessing in my life. Besides the wonderful cause, of bring joy to children, it is so wonderful to be able to give. I don't have a lot of money, and cannot donate financially to charities, but I'm glad I have found the perfect organization I can be a part of.
I started out as a baker- or "Sugar Angel", I loved it. It is so wonderful so see the joy brought to those children and their families. It uplifts the givers spirit as well.
Now as an admin volunteer, it's pretty awesome to get to see it on both sides. Blessings to both families and bakers, and it's pretty awesome to be a part of that. It's great to be a small piece of something so much bigger.
I happened upon this amazing organization in 2012 and was honored to finally become a Sugar Angel in 2013. Since then, I have looked for every opportunity to become more involved and spread the word of Icing Smiles. With over 3000 smiles provided since 2010 by an awesome team inspiring volunteers worldwide, children with critical illnesses as well as their families are able to enjoy a moment they might not have gotten otherwise.
Icing Smiles is a wonderful organization to be a part of. Not only have they brought smiles to thousands of children they also bring smiles to their volunteers. As a volunteer I find joy in working with such a passionate and helpful team. It's always amazing to see the kindness of bakers and admin and the amount of work that takes place to deliver a cake. Seeing the smiles on the children's faces warms my heart.

God gave me a gift of baking/decorating cakes and it is my way of paying if forward. Many years ago I starting praying for a way for God to use me. I love to serve others and I love baking and decorating treats .. so when I ran across the non-profit Icing Smiles, seeing their vision was so close to the prayers I had been praying for so long, I KNEW we were a match made in Heaven!
Only wanting to make these children happy and carefree, if ONLY for one day is a very small price for the volunteers to pay .. I have done 3 now .. and those children mean the world to me and my family .. they will forever be in my heart and in my prayers!

I am a fairly new volunteer for Icing Smiles as a state rep and in such a short amount of time I have already learned about so many amazing people and stories because of this group. I absolutely love being a part of icingsmiles and knowing that something as simple (well..not so simple ha) as a cake coyld bring such joy to a child and a family who is going through so much.
Birthdays are a magical time for children, but the magic can fade when illness takes over, or a hospital stay postpones party, or your sibling and a parent misses your birthday because they are the ones at the hospital. Icing Smiles can come into these families lives and put a smile on children's faces who haven't smiled in a while. Icing Smiles can provide memories of that special day to the children they serve. I am a medical mom to 3 very special kids. My kids are healthy for the disorders/defects they have. But some kids aren't and as a parent I will cherish as many birthdays as I can! What's Julia Childs saying? "A party without cake is just a meeting". My youngest received an Icing Smiles cake for her first birthday last month. I feel so blessed to have that memory of her cake and party as we are rapidly approaching her open heart surgery. Her sugar angel was amazing, the cake was amazing the memories are amazing! (I am lucky enough to also be able to volunteer my time with Icing Smiles as a state rep. )
As a friend of one of the Icing Smiles volunteers, I can tell you that I have never interacted with an organization that is as passionate about what they do as these individuals. They put in countless hours to make dreams come true for these families, and it doesn't just start and end with the cakes they provide. The spend many unrecognized hours seeking out other volunteers, arranging and lining up donations and putting together fundraising events. I am proud to say that I will be attending and volunteering at the October 12th Icing Smiles Cake Chase 5k in Altoona, IA to help raise money so that these special, extraordinary individuals can continue to provide these sick children and their families with the smiles and memories they deserve!
I have worked with and in a lot of non-profits. Icing Smiles far surpasses any of them with their attention to service and mission driven focus. I am blessed every day to be a part of this wonderful organization and witness how they brighten the lives of children/families who cherish every smile they get to have!!
I started my cake business in 2010, it was 2011 when I found this AWESOME organization! I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of it. I have done 2 cakes, currently working on my 3rd donated cake. There is nothing like seeing these children SMILE when they see their cake, nothing brings me more joy than that! The world is truly a better place because of ICING SMILES! I am an Iowa baker! I have 5 children, that are all healthy, so icing smiles hits my heart when i read these childrens stories, how could you not want to help?
While I am incredibly blessed to have two healthy children, many are not. Too many parents out there must deal with the stress, anxiety, and worry about the future of their children who face critical illness. Icing Smiles can't take away all the stress medical families deal with, but it can take away one... and in the process, allow an ill child or his sibling to have an amazing, memorable celebration cake. Be it with a birthday cake or a cake to celebrate the end of chemotherapy, Icing Smiles volunteers create masterpieces that let a child and his family escape the stress, even just for a little while. These memories last forever. Nothing beats the sweet, sugary smile on the face of a child. I am so proud to be an Icing Smiles administrative volunteer, touching lives of medical families and generous bakers. It is truly a life changing experience for all.
Icing Smiles has made a tremendous impact on my life. I am a volunteer that wears many hats, from Sugar Angel to the administrative team. I gladly accept any role that is asked of me because I stand behind this organization 100%. We are making a huge impact in the lives of children whose journey is filled with challenge, burden, and downright scary things. A little sugar and a smile go a long way. Every child deserves to put that aside and celebrate the little, and sometimes big, moments and I love that I can help make that happen for them.
I first volunteered with Icing Smiles in August of 2010, as a baking volunteer. I got my first call to action in September of that year. It was such a touching experience to see the absolute joy and excitement of the little boy I baked for. One year and 3 cakes later, I was asked to join the Administrative Team and have been loving every minute of it.
It's so amazing and rewarding to be able to touch the lives of so many families in need of a Smile.
Icing Smiles has made a huge impact in the lives of so many people, not just the kids that receive the cakes, but also the families, friends, bakers, medical staff and all the volunteers that come in contact with the event. What an honor it has been to be even a small part of this wonderful and caring organization. To see so many come together selflessly for such a beautiful cause! My role, albeit a small one, provides me with a glimpse into the lives of the children that are receiving these cakes. I am humbled by their stories of struggling and their incredible faith and strength. It j spires me every day. What a gift it is to be able to assist in giving these sick children the joy of a beautiful cake made just for them! To be a part of an organization that remembers how important the little things can be in life is nothing less than a privilege.
Icing smiles has changed my life. I kept looking for ways to honor the fight my daughter fought and nothing I tried felt right, until I started volunteering for icing smiles. Icing smiles is such a wonderful group of talented and loving people. From the admins to the bakers everyone works together to help children who are Ill feel just a little bit better!
I'm a professional baker and business owner. A mother of two grown children and a wife. I stumbled across Icing Smiles last year and knew instantly that it was something I wanted to be apart of. I am the state representative - Iowa and the Icing Smiles State Rep Trainer. And I am on the Icing Smiles Cake Chase 5K fundraising committee. I have enjoyed each and every part of what I do at Icing Smiles. I've met the most courageous children, the most supportive siblings and the dedicated and loving families whom these children belong to. The Icing Smiles volunteers are immense. And each and everyone of them works tirelessly to make IS the success that it is today. I've seen volunteers who have personal and professional hectic schedules, drop everything to help a child get a cake. I've seen them drive long distances, go above and beyond what is required and all for the love of these children.
I've met so many people through my work at Icing Smiles. All of whom have become like family. The friendships and bonds are amazing and I am extremely honored to be apart of such an amazing organization.
I have been a volunteer for Icing Smiles for almost 2 years now. It is a great program and everyone I know that volunteers or has benefited from a cake from one of the bakers will tell you the same! I can't wait to see what the future holds!

Joining Icing Smiles is one of the best things I have ever done. I joined last year and have be honored with 1 call to action and have also volunteered for another. This organization is amazing, I am just a home baker and they accepted me with open arms, they don't need you to be the best cake artist in the world you just have to be willing to help. The fulfillment you get from making a cake is unfathomable. I am so in awe of these kids who just take their adversity in their stride, I honestly don't think I could be as brave as they are they have taught me so much. If you can bake and you are thinking about volunteering do it, you would never regret it for a moment.
As a busy cake artist running a one-woman show, it's hard to find quality time to do volunteer work. Icing Smiles is a perfect fit for people like me who are chained to the kitchen anyway. It is such a thrill and honor to help these families by doing what I do best. The only two families I've provided cakes for so far have both requested me for future cakes! Icing Smiles makes it possible for families enduring rough times to smile. I'm honored to be a part of this organization.
Being a representative for Icing Smiles could be the most fulfilling thing I've ever done with my life. Volunteering just a small amount of time to serve families with critically ill children warms my heart every day. The amazing situations that these children have to endure is amazing. The bravery that we see with the families is heroic. I couldnt ask to be a part of a better organization. Icing Smiles will always be in my life and I can't wait to serve my first child next month, yay!
I've been a volunteer baker with Icing Smiles since 2010 and have been honored to have served two times. The cakes I've created for these children have been the most rewarding cakes I've made. In fact just recently I have also volunteered to be a State Representative for this wonderful organization. Baking cakes for critically I'll children and their siblings has been life-changing for me. I have always looked for ways to give, but never found the right fit until I found Icing Smiles!
I have been a volunteer baker with Icing Smiles since 2010, and have been fortunate enough to accept 3 calls to action for dream cakes. The experience each time was just incredible. It is about so much more than cake!! The smiles, the memories, the positive impact on the family, the little bit of financial burden lifted from them, the fact that if even for a short moment they forget all about the situation they're in and just ENJOY and be happy, it's all rolled into one wonderful experience for both the families, and baker.
Icing Smiles (IS) pairs specialty bakers/decorators with medically critical kids/family to provide a very, very special cake each year to these kids and their siblings. They operate in all US states, as well as Holland, UAE, Canada and are growing based on requests for services in other countries. Their Facebook page is filled with stories and photos of thousands of special moments created for these families, and also stories by baking volunteers of how wonderful their experience of serving was to them. I started as a baking volunteer and after that experience I joined to bake, work on admin tasks, whatever is needed. I've worked in non-profits for a number of years - this is hands down the best organization I've ever been involved with.
