The Hydrologic Research Center (HRC) was established in 1993. Its mission is to bring state-of-the-science results to field applications for improving flood disaster and water resources management. Significant education and training programs accompany HRC development activities. Most of the funding is from successful competitive proposals to national and international government agencies. Approximately, 8% of the funding is from private donors. In spite the relatively small size, HRC has implemented fiscal policies that ensure effective use of funding with low overhead. Full financial accountability is maintained for the benefit of donors (whether agencies or not) and Board Members. At present (2011) and in collaboration with agencies from 39 countries, HRC has implemented flash flood warning systems in developing and developed countries to gether with public education programs that serve more than half a billion people worldwide. I have no reservations in recommending getting involved and supporting this non profit.
