Terrible Customer Service. I went on Sunday to adopt Marigold and her special needs kitten, and was refused because after speaking with my vet, I was made out to be a negligent pet owner. I cannot believe that my vet could say something like that when I go to her office all the time. My pets are all insured at a $250 deductible with a 90% payback. I am very responsible pet owner, and actually very angry that I was treated like I was unfit since I treat my pets better than I treat myself! I should have showed them my vet invoices . Now, I see them listed on their website with the possibility of being separated when I was going to take them both. Also, I made a comment on their Facebook page and was blocked. Horrible place with a horrible staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not worthy of any rating! One star is too much!!!!!
This organization claims they are a no-kill shelter when they have not been. Many animal -especially pit bulls- are put down. I remember a sweet golden retriever who was put down for no reason. I also know of another woman who was going to adopt a pit bull (she had been working with the dog extensively there) but they decided to put the dog down. There are so many stories of euthanasia there. I know the former manager is no longer there but the current people who run it were associates of hers so who knows. The thing is, please don’t lie to the public and call yourself a no-kill shelter when you’re not
Approximately a month ago I dropped off donations at the humane society and saw a dog available for adoption that was not listed on their website. I was quite shocked as I was very interested in adopting the dog. Upon inquiring about the dog’s availability I was given a negative response regarding his behavior. Due to the fact I recently moved into a new building (which does allow pets) I hesitated and left without the dog. Upon asking my neighbors how they would feel regarding a dog which might bark they were unconcerned. I was devastated about leaving without the dog and the attitude of the individual who spoke negatively regarding the dog as well as the indifference of the other staff. I completed an application and as of this day have not heard from the Humane Society of Westchester. A society who states a dedication in finding homes for all the pets in their care.
Review from Guidestar
This is a great experience for all animal-lovers and people who want to help out their community. The last person to review this organization said that the staff are not friendly or helpful. With some (not all) staff this is the case, but people who truly want to help the animals should not care if the staff is not completely attentive. And if the staff is very rude, that's even more reason to volunteer- the animals need people in their lives to love and care for them. The Humane Society does not really give volunteers specific tasks, it's all up to the individual where to spend time, but the animals enjoy the company and so do the volunteers. At least I do. Overall, I love to spend time volunteering at the Humane Society and I definitely recommend it.
I'm not surprised that I am the first person to write a review about the New Rochelle Humane Society. If I could have given this organization no stars I would have. They don't deserve the mention of a star. Some how they forgot that "Humane" is a general concept and not just used to describe the treatment of animals. This organization was not friendly and they failed to offer any favorable customer service skills the visitors who were unknown to them. This particular organization seemed to have a frequent customers so those who enter and are unknown to them do not receive any attention upon arrival. Once you solicit thier services they then become bewildered and inquire how you got past them without notice. This organization left a sour taste in my mouth. I felt as if I was in High School again, you know the cool kids vs the others, not part of the group. Don't waste your time with the New Rochelle Humane Society unless your a popular kid or animal.
