Very nice people who love and care for the animals there. You can tell it's an old building but they make it cozy and loving.
My family has adopted two cats from the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. They make it so easy to meet and visit with the animals. About 5 years ago my wife visited the shelter and when his cage was opened Scottie literally jumped into her arms! She asked the shelter to put a hold on him until I could visit. We adopted him, and he was able to come home with us a few days later. Misty was our second adoption, last winter. I read about her sad story on the Humane Society website and just had to meet her. She had been adopted from the Humane Society when she was younger, lived with a family for a few years, and then was returned; that story broke my heart. When I met her she was so happy to get my attention and I was hooked! Scottie and Misty are living a good life at our home. We're so grateful to the Humane Society for taking excellent care of them!
I've adopted two animals from this shelter and both times, the staff I worked with were great. The animals were both surrendered, but they were healthy due to the shelter staff, and so happy to have a forever home. I felt so strongly about the possibilities at the HSOV that I joined the board of directors in 2021!
All of my FurChildren have been shelter saves. ~
They are not all pictured here due to space ~
Shelter saves become a part of you life
In that they are companionship,
Motivation, enrich your life and you enrich thier lives.
I support/encourage pet Adoption,
That being said ... your new family member will need time to decompress from shelter life,
Pets already in your home will adjust given time and attention shared all round.
After living with shelter saves all my life.
I Highly Recommend Adoption
I have Never regretted my FurChildren
Adoption opens up room for another misplaced animal
The staff and other volunteers are the most caring people I have ever met. There are so many dogs and cats always coming in and not enough adopters or even enough room. They do the best they can but always need help with donations and more volunteers. I am proud to say I am a volunteer at HSOV!
The HSOV Shelter is a great group of Volunteers that work hard & do the Very Best they can for the Shelter, with what they have to work with. I can’t say enough for ALL who show up everyday to take care of all the sick, wounded, and discarded animals until they can find Good homes. Please stop by the Shelter, if you can, and give an animal a new lease on life. Thanks to ALL who volunteer, and give their time to care for those who can’t help themselves.
HSOV is a great place with staff and volunteers who care for the animals as if they were their own.
Previous Stories
The staff and volunteers at HSOV care deeply for the animals in their care. They go above and beyond to make sure each animal is cared for and knows love during their stay at the shelter.
As a volunteer, I love getting to know the dogs and watch as they begin so show their personalities. Off-site events are my favorite as they give the animals much needed time away from the intense environment of the shelter.
I also adopted Winnie, my sweet, shy, quirky escape artist, from HSOV in 2015. She had been in foster care for over two years when we met. She has brought love and laugher to my heart and home.
HSOV is a great place to meet your new best friend!
This wonderful shelter is a gem to the community. They are lead by a fantastic board, amazing and dedicated staff and loving volunteers whose hearts are with the animals. The shelter as an organization adapts and grows with every year and becomes more and more of a beacon to those animals and pet lovers in need. The community is blessed to have the HSOV.
I have volunteered with this organization and now I serve on the Board of Directors. It is also where we adopted our cat Scottie.
The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, 90 Mount Tom Road, Marietta, Ohio has an abundance (and sometimes an overabundance) of the most beautiful and loving pets you will ever find. This organization is comprised of Staff, Volunteers, and Board Members whose only goal is for the shelter pets to get excellent care and to find them the right home. The shelter is located in a lovely location with the most beautiful scenery you will ever find. It's a perfect place for volunteers to walk the dogs to give them fresh air and a nice break. The cats also receive the best of care, and often you will find volunteers comforting them. If I had to choose what touches my heart most - beyond seeing a dog or cat be adopted into a lifelong, loving home - is the excitement and happiness the Staff, Volunteers, and Board feel when they know that a pet is walking out the shelter doors and into a good home. If you are looking for a pet, please consider the many wonderful pets at the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. The shelter is exceptionally clean and arranged so nicely. Our Community is blessed with the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
I adopted Marlow in July of this year. Most easiest thing I’ve ever done. They were fast/courteous and friendly. They made it feel like they were family. Which they are. They all were friendly when I had a zillion questions when it came to him getting neutered. Will most definitely adopt from there again. Folks complain of the fees. I see it as a small token of what they do to take care of the animals.
Humane Society of the Ohio Valley has a heart for animals. We found an older cat under our deck He was tired, dirty, and confused.
We took him to the humane society and immediately the lady behind the desk said she saw a post about him. We were able to return him to his owner, an older lady who had been looking everywhere for him.
We found an aged cat under our deck who we could tell was someone’s pet. After trying neighbors, vets and other sources, we reluctantly took it to HSOV, knowing they were full of cats. They were very busy, but so nice and helpful and remembered seeing a FB post looking for this cat! They took the time to locate its owner for us. We learned it was 17 years old, blind and had never been out before it wandered out a door accidentally left open, and couldn’t find its way home. Happy ending thanks to our helpful HSOV.
I am a volunteer and cat foster since 2013. I love volunteering with the HSOV because they care about all the animals who come through the door. Our volunteers are amazing and socialize our cats and dogs so they are more adoptable.
I was treated so well by these folks-they were ready to help me adopt my new friend-I will continue to support them-Marilyn Pasquarelli and little boy Moses
hello, I was brought to the HSOV by seeing an ad on face book, for a dog that had recently been brought in, but while i was there and was talking with staff, I decided to look at all the dogs, so the great staff showed me 4 different dogs, staff was very helpful with all my questions about each dog, they were very informative on each of the dogs, they were patient and i could tell they really take care of their animals and are looking for forever homes for the animals, I decided on a boy named Harley, I live out of state so it was a 3hr car ride home, but this boy did great on the ride, curled up and slept the whole way, we got home, and as soon as we did our rounds of the grounds and the home the first thing he did was climb into his new xlarge dog bed, didn't take him more than 45 mins to seem very relaxed and ready to enjoy his new forever home...
I want to say A WARM HEARTED THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE STAFF.
The staff and volunteers here at HSOV truly care for all of the animals . They are working towards replacing the building in the future but for now we appreciate what we have .
So if you’re looking for your next best friend please check HSOV out .
This team does wonderful work, and truly cares about the animals and those involved in making their lives better and helping them onto the next leg of their journey. From the shelter staff to management to board members to the volunteers, what a beautiful group.
Gave me by big beautiful girl Sadie! She has been such an addition to the family and I can’t imagine life without her!
I volunteer at the shelter walking dogs and doing events in the community. The shelter staff and volunteers really care about every single animal that comes through the shelter doors and do everything possible to make the lives of the animals comfortable while they are staying at the shelter. I have met some of the most kind, generous, and compassionate people through the shelter. I am proud to say I am a volunteer with this shelter.
I volunteer at the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley helping with laundry and washing food and water bowls, toys and litter boxes. I adopted my cat Scottie from the HSOV. They are very kind, conscientious, and extremely dedicated to helping all of the animals in their care find their forever homes.
I spend a couple of hours 2 evenings a week walking the dogs and i always look forward to it. It is great exercise and the dogs really need out of their kennels. It is very rewarding to see how some are so frightened when they come in and with time and attention they begin to trust and find their forever homes.
