Mission: The mission of the humane society for hamilton county is saving lives, educating communities and completing families by providing a compassionate and healthy environment for the homeless animals of hamilton county, indiana, until they can be placed into permanent, loving homes. The society strives to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the suffering caused by pet overpopulation and animal cruelty by spaying/neutering all animals before they are placed into homes and by offering counseling to pet owners to address behavioral issues.
Programs: The humane society for hamilton county operates an animal shelter in noblesville, indiana, for stray and owner surrendered animals waiting to be returned to their owners or placed into new homes. Over 3,000 animals were cared for by the society in 2014 with a placement rate of 90% adjusted for illness and temperament. Animals with upper respiratory infections, injuries, heartworm disease, nursing mothers and their offspring, and those who cannot thrive in the shelter environment are placed into foster homes. All animals are microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before being placed into new homes.
the survivor program gives animals arriving at the shelter in need of immediate medical care the life saving treatment they need. The survivor program also gives animals with life threatening illnesses such as heartworm disease or parvovirus a second chance at life. 100% of the donations made to the survivor program go toward providing the medical care needed to save precious lives.
pet healing vets pairs qualifying veterans returning from active duty with symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury with a carefully selected shelter dog or cat in need of a home. Program facilitators have found that veterans often relate to shelter animals who are themselves often misunderstood and dealing with anxieties associated with fear and abuse. This program serves veterans throughout the state of indiana. Twelve veterans are participating in the program with animals placed with these veterans.
