Mission: The houston livestock show and rodeo educational fund (the "educational fund") was organized for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes, including the distribution of scholarships, grants, and awards to students and organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The educational fund was initially funded by the houston livestock show and rodeo, inc. In june 1989. The funds of the educational fund are used exclusively in furtherance of the exempt purpose of the organization and to meet necessary expenses for its upkeep and operations.

Programs: The hlsr educational fund awarded 465 $18,000 and 10 $9,000 scholarships for texas students to attend texas colleges and universities. It funded another 150 scholarships to texas students participating in and selected by 4-h, ffa, and fccla. In addition, 10 other scholarships are awarded to students studying specific programs at universities. In addition, the achievement scholarship was awarded to other existing scholars, a total of $1. 2 million awarded to 99 students.
