Mission: The houston independent school district (hisd) foundation supports the schools and programs of the houston independent schools district. Funds raised by the foundation provide resources to advance the initiatives of the district's strategic directives.
Programs: The hisd foundation is dedicated to the support of the houston independent school district and its mission of providing every student with a consistently rigorous education in a safe environment. The foundation works with superintendent of schools, the hisd board of education, and houstons business leaders and philanthropic community to not only raise funds for the district but to provide support for teachers, students, and parents as well as to bring overall awareness to the districts commitment to providing every student with a quality education. The foundation supports districtwide and school-based programs and initiatives aimed at increasing student academic achievement, eliminating the minority achievement gap, and developing and retaining effective educators in every classroom. Projects include:advanced placement initiative - a comprehensive plan to build capacity and expertise of hisd ap teaching corps, and expand ap course availability across all secondary schools, increase ap exam accessibility for all secondary students taking one or more ap courses, and provide for a system that measures performance and holds people accountable for results. Young women's college preparatory academy - an all girls facility preparing young women to be tomorrow's leaders. The program includes academic training and mentoring to promote critical thinking and making good life choices. Career day expo - program in schools to promote achievement of career through advanced learning.
