One of the best places to volunteer! The caring staff and amazing vets make it truly special. We worked closely with the education team and vets to help adopt a dog with a neurological condition. The staff was eager to assist us, and the vets guided us through the adoption process and fundraising. This facility offers a wonderful experience for our kids to learn about animals and how to care for them.

I really appreciate the Houston humane society!
I’ve been able to come to them for over a decade for affordable vet care and fostering.

The world can be so cruel with our furry friends but thanks to shelters like this with people that care, animals have a fighting change to be in their furever loving home.

They bring education to others regarding spay/neuter in order to minimize the suffering of homeless animals.
Overall this is what an animals shelter is meant to be.
I’m super grateful to have been able to meet my most recent fosters babies, Peach&Panda! They are now in their loving home!

My daughters and I have been volunteering at the HHS since 2012. The dedicated staff and volunteers are amazing. I have seen so many animals adopted and taken care of. Also the outreach HHS provides to our community such as pet pantrys, educational awareness, therapy, mobile adoptions, involvement in community events, and most importantly rescuing animals in danger is priceless. My experience with HHS is so rewarding and humbling

I have volunteered with my siblings since 2022 and have been able to attend community events. I love that the Houston Humane Society works so hard to better the life of all the adoptable pets in their care. The HHS staff is all very nice and the ACT workers truly care about the well being of the pets. Everyone who comes by always leaves feeling like we make a difference. I love that me and my siblings can come out and walk adoptable pets and make a difference in the community.

I have been volunteering for several area shelters including Houston Humane Society for a few years. I am very impressed with the dedication of HHS staff and management who are innovative in their quest to help animals in our communities.
HHS organises many adoption events to find adoptive families and educate our communities. They also have many programs to help keep dogs and owners together.
HHS provides also many enrichment programs to better the life of our shelter dogs and cats.

This facility is clean and spacious so that every pet rescued has a comfortable place. Feeding, giving medical care and walking the dogs is not the only care these dogs receive. The Houston Humane Society has created many programs to enrich their life and socialize them.
HHS has also a program to keep pets in their home when families have financial difficulties.
I have volunteered in several shelters, the Houston Humane Society is most likely the most impressive.

I've had the privilege of volunteering at the Humane Society, specifically with their feline friends, and I can't express how rewarding and eye-opening this experience has been. The Humane Society's dedication to saving and improving the lives of animals is truly remarkable.

From the moment I walked through the doors, I was welcomed by a team of passionate and compassionate individuals. They not only taught me the ropes of caring for the cats but also educated me about the broader mission of the Humane Society – to provide a safe haven for animals in need and find them loving forever homes.

Working with the cats is a joy beyond words. Each cat has its own unique personality, and it is heartwarming to witness their transformation from timid, abandoned animals to trusting and affectionate companions. The Humane Society's commitment to their well-being was evident in the care and attention given to each cat, from proper nutrition to enrichment activities that kept them physically and mentally stimulated.
Beyond the cats, the Humane Society's outreach and advocacy efforts left a lasting impression on me. They tirelessly work to raise awareness about animal welfare issues, promote responsible pet ownership, and collaborate with the community to make a difference. It's clear that they are not just an organization but a force for positive change in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

Volunteering at the Humane Society has been a transformative experience. It's opened my eyes to the incredible work being done to save and improve the lives of animals, and it's given me the opportunity to be a part of that mission. I'm grateful for the chance to contribute to such a noble cause and to be surrounded by people who share my passion for animals.

In summary, the Humane Society is a beacon of hope for animals in need, and as a volunteer, I've witnessed firsthand the dedication, compassion, and impact of this organization. I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone who loves animals and wants to make a difference to consider volunteering with the Humane Society. It's an experience that will touch your heart and leave a lasting imprint of compassion and kindness.

A small puppy, about 2 weeks, was dropped off by the fire department. A volunteer immediately responded, fed the pup, took him home and feeds him every 2 hours. The pup is thriving, a wellness check in the clinic shows he is healthy. The dedication of the clinic, and volunteer, has given this precious pup a bright future. I have also adopted from this place too and have always had a good experience with the staff. I am a member of their Pet Pantry service and feel so blessed to be able to receive all the donated dog food every month. It helps tremendously each month and is a true blessing. I have loved working with animals all my life! I started volunteering with Houston Humane Society in 2007 with my kids. Both kids grew up volunteering at HHS. I have fostered many dogs over the years- becoming a failed foster in 2012. I adopted my most recent dog in 2020. I have loved volunteering at HHS because everyone working there are wonderful people that really work hard to do the best for each animal! I now bring people from my hospital to volunteer once a month! Everyone looks forward to volunteering at such a great place!

I love the Houston Humane Society! I love that they are trying to help so many animals in the Houston area. Their shelter is incredibly clean and inviting. The amount of animals that come through their doors is staggering, and most will find homes in a very short period of time! Those that don't go home right away, will live at the Houston Humane Society until the perfect family arrives! I love Houston Humane Society so much, I have been a volunteer for 14 years! I have fostered many dogs- becoming a failed foster and adopting my last dog, recently! I love Houston Humane Society so much, both my kids were raised there! They learned how to care for animals and how to be a better citizen to all! The Houston Humane Society is amazing place!

My family came to see the dogs on 3-14-22, we fell in love with Goku ( Now Arlo) and we decided to adopt him. We picked him up on 3-18-22. The morning of our 3 day Free follow up 3-21-22 he seemed sick, throwing up, not wanting to leave his kennel, watery poop, not wanting to eat or drink water no matter how I gave it to him. We brought him to the clinic and explained everything and they did a parvo test which came out positive. The clinic told us he had a 9/10 chance that he would die from it. They gave us the option to take him home and conduct treatment but it would get a lot worse and it will be hard on him and it will be even more heartbreaking on us because we will see him deteriorate. They also told us he had to have been exposed to parvo 7-10 days prior to adopting him meaning he was exposed before he got home. We came back to the adoption center to sign him over because we were already heartbroken just hearing all of this information given to us. We just got him 3 days ago and we didn’t expect all of this to happen. When we were talking to the people at the adoption center figuring out the refund and the lady told me to sign this paper handing him over not knowing there were more options. As soon as I signed the paper they told us that he was going to go to a recovery center which he would have a chance of survival. They also told us he would have a 9/10 chance that he would survive. All of this confused us so much and it’s very overwhelming. The lady also told us he would never catch it again so he would be okay for the future and then someone else told us he can get it again. All confusing us so much more and making this whole process extremely stressful. In the contract we signed it states “ I will take this animal to a veterinarian for a checkup WITHIN 3 BUSINESS DAYS (Monday thru Saturday) AFTER LEAVING THE HHS. If a veterinarian diagnoses this animal as sick within 3 business days of adoption. I will have the following options : bring the animal and written diagnoses to the HHS clinic for treatment at HHS’s expense ; OR have the animal treated at a NON-HHS vet clinic at my own expense.” After I had signed the paper signing him over without knowing all of my options. I was told I had the option to pay for the treatment. Under this contract it stated that the HHS will cover the cost of treatment If the animal is diagnosed within those 3 days, which he was diagnosed at the HHS clinic. This whole experience has been extremely stressful and difficult to say the least.
I have emailed adoptions and I haven’t heard back.

Now that I’m back living in Houston after graduating from college, I volunteer here on the weekends and am having just as much fun doing that! The Houston Humane Society has a dedicated team that is passionate about taking care of the animals, finding them great homes, and running a high quality facility. From walking the dogs to playing with cats and introducing the animals to eager potential adopters, it’s an enjoyable and fulfilling experience all around. I’m so thankful to HHS for the opportunity to be involved with my community in this way - it’s been wonderful!

This is helping me getting closer to my dream: becoming a doctor of veterinary medicine.
Everyone is so friendly and supportive and everyone seems to get along. Nobody gets upset, when I am asking a ton of questions, they appreciate it and take the time and patience to explain things. An awesome working climate all around! Wish I had more time to volunteer here!

I take care of stray cats and kittens, I've had a few cats taken cared of by the HHS and their service is outstanding! Very clear on procedures and expectations. Through their community events such as food pantry or free spay/neuter services, I've received the best help not only to have some weight lifted off of my shoulders but they help out the community by decreasing the number of homeless cats/giving them required shots. Every service I've received has been very organized and well-managed!

Houston Human Society is a well run heartfelt non profit business. The people who work there are very passionate in what they do. Always ready to help with any questions you have when we handled dog walking. My husband and I volunteered on Saturdays for a couple hours and enjoyed walking the dogs together. There are so many rescued dogs and cats and they are treated in the most humane and respectful way; so thankful that such a great facility exists!
We travel too much in our jobs and cannot have a pet of our own so it gave us a great feeling of giving back, volunteering to walk the dogs and visit the cats. It was so fun "showing off" all the wonderful pets for future pet owners to observe and see if the pet would be a good fit for them or their family!
The most rewarding part is when a pet is requested to see, sometimes as you are walking the pet, and that same pet got adopted when we were there!!! Such a wonderful experience the joy and love their new pet had on the new owner or family to be!
Also, it was very rewarding when walking the dogs they could relieve themselves outside rather than in their cage (pooper scoopers are a great invention!). Altho, they sure keep up with cleaning the cages meticulously.
The grounds are really lovely. As you walk you can see other wildlife around. Also, there are many quaint areas where you can sit on a bench under a tree so you can take time to visit, play and chill out with your pet and give cuddles.

We adopted our beautiful Sandie when she was 6-1/2 years old. Since she was an older dog, she was calm but playful, housebroken and leash trained. We have had her over four years, and she is a wonderful addition to our family.

The process to adopt her was very easy. We saw her picture online, went to the shelter, met with her privately off leash in a fenced in area, and immediately fell in love. Because it was late on a Saturday, we came back on Monday to formalize the adoption and bring her home.

She has been in perfect health since adoption, and has been the most wonderful, loving, and playful dog we have ever owned. In fact, she has become a therapy dog of sorts for my husband, who is unable to work due to health issues.

We were impressed with the cleanliness of the facility, the helpfulness of the staff, and how quick they were to help us with every part of the adoption process. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Houston Humane Society.

When it is time to adopt another dog, we will be once again returning to the Houston Humane Society.

If you care about your pet at all DO NOT take them to the Houston Humane Society. My roommate took her perfectly healthy kitten there for a routine neuter procedure, the whole staff neglected to give him a physical assessment before they had him on the operating table. After they realized he had a retained testicle (very commonly seen in cats) the surgeon did not call to update the owner of his condition and proceeded to botch a surgery she admitted to never doing before. This is the definition of medical NEGLIGENCE and MALPRACTICE. The doctor proceeded to hide this information in the charts when we asked for the paperwork to take to another vet. She still has not called to explain her actions to my roommate instead letting a different doctor explain what happened in the operating room days later. This kitten is now suffering from major infection do you a “mess up” the main surgeon admitted to making. She cut a nerve in his anus and now he is in an animal hospital with a extremely low likely hood of survival. I WILL be reporting this to the Veterinary licensing board and will make it my personal mission to see that this doctor is NEVER allowed to operate on another animal again.

All were huskies that HHS had at diff times.each time I drove 3 to 3 1/2 hours to adopt and then again to pick them up! It got to the point where HHS would call me and tell me they had a husky that needed rescued. I now have 8 amazing huskies all rescues from shelters around Texas and they are the best pack I could ask for. HHS helped me find a family the 4 legged kind when I needed it the most. I felt skeptical. I have a big dog who is fearful which makes him look aggressive or act aggressive. But to make long story short Houston Humane blew me away. He even got a nail trim which we didn't talk about but was grateful for. They did the removal half the price my primary vet asked for and was treated well. I walked out very impressed. the story of Mimi, aka MIa, so i run a small private no-kill sanctuary in texas, and i just so happen to have lost a few dogs due to age and health issues. :( incredibly heartbreaking, oh yes, and just because i run a sanctuary, NO! it does not ever get easy when you lose one! each baby comes with their own story, and brings something special to the table.

so, i took a peek on the houston humane society. you will laugh when you see how i do this. it kills me to see any dog needing a momma and daddy. so i placed my finger over the picture area, and just scrolled for small dog, and the oldest one there. within a minute, THERE SHE WAS! yes, that was my new baby! a 14 year old chihuahua they were calling Mimi. she was my baby i just knew it.

so the next morning i made the journey down to the HHS, and stood in line for my turn. when i got to the help desk i didnt ask, "may i see dog number ?, or may i see Mimi, instead i said, "i am here to take Mimi home." the lady, sweet as can be smiled big, and said Mimi? very surprised was she. you see Mimi was old, and it turrned out that not even one person had even inquired about her. as much as that hurt my heart, I KNEW it was meant to be, so secretly i was glad. :) she was meant to be my baby! i did ask, why was she surrendered as i could not ever figure out why???someone would take an old animal to a humane society? how could this ever happen to her? to be in a home for your whole life, and then end up in a lonely, cage? it is painful to think about.

so they put mein a meet and great room, and within a minute or two they brought her in. OMG, love at first sight. i scooped her up, and she just melted into me. i think she flet what i felt, ohhh, yes, this is my mommie. i didnt need to sit and think about it, as i wrote i came there to take her home. and for the record, her being old, scared, and abandoned (sort of) by her family-she was not snappy or hard headed in any way. and to be honest i would not have blamed her if she had taken a while to warm up. BUT she didnt. she just knew she was safe!

so before we checked out, i stopped in their little store, and bought her a new blingy collar, and some new sweaters as it was winter time. also bought her a new super cushy bed, and a few stuffed toys-all for her. we paid our fee, and off we went.

i did rename her Mia, making sure she liked it first. and making sure she responded to it without an issue, well, she loved her name, and her home. i swear to you, she fit right in. i introduced her to the other "little squirt" group, and she said howdy, and gave and got tons of kisses. made my heart just melt seeing her here, in a home, that no matter what she was safe. PLEASE everyone with pets, Mia was given her old family claimed because they moved? OMG, so bad. when you move, your pet moves with you. also you must have a PLAN B, maybe even a PLAN c. where you have people who will, no matter what take all of your animals, fish, turtle, dogs cats, and even livestock, should anything happen to you. nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, and you must have that plan in place for your animals! i even have a ton of life insurance since i have a rescue so should i die my bestie (according to my will) will inherit the money, and agree to care for every single animal on the property until they go to heaven too. i am 100% sure this will happen. it is the responsible thing to do.PLEASE make sure that you have a plan B!.

Mia is still here. still alive and kicking 2+ years later. yes, a 16 year old granny who is still as sweet as sugar, and luckily very healthy. the only issues are her eyes are not as good as they once were. but other than that she is perfect. i did change her to a raw food diet, cuz she is a bit fussy. she loves it, and for a chihuahua it is not a pain to do, and not expensive, plus i see that she eats very well every day. she sleeps at my feet everynight, and puts up with the fact that i am a restless sleeper. in exchange she does occassionally make an accidental pee pee on the floor-so it all evens out. LOL according to her i think. :) no worries i may end up wearing adult diapers someday myself. i also make it a point to pick her up and put her outside for potty often just as a reminder. no worries again people remember this issue happens to humans too. so in my mothers' words, "dont sweat the small stuff."

Mia is a joy, and just like i knew from moment A, she was meant to be my baby girl. i love you to the moon and back Mia. xoxoxo

We needed to spay our puppy and after evaluating other providers we chose the Houston Humane Society. I was impressed with their friendly customer service from the first time I visited the facility dropping food donation. The facilities are very well maintained. They are very clean, well organized, and make it an excellent place for caring for dogs and cats. Our puppy was registered for spaying surgery, the procedure went well, and at a very competitive cost. Communication prior to the procedure was timely and detailed. I strongly recommend the Houston Humane Society for adoption and caring for dogs and cats. Excellent staff.

The most Important part of my volunteering is fostering. With the help of the HHS, I have saved several dogs from the brink of death, bringing them back to life and making them adoptable for future families. It’s because of the HHS and fosters like myself that make a huge difference for unwanted animals that pass through the HHS doors. Make a difference and foster, you’re truly saving a life.

We originally wanted to help our community by volunteering somehow. We decided to spend time walking dogs at Houston Humane Society (HHS).
We have seen so many severely neglected and sick animals and feel honored to be a part of their lives. We have since sponsored the heartworm treatment for 8 dogs, and fostered and adopted an HHS dog.
The HHS team organizes wonderful fundraisers and uses their resources to help get these animals a forever home. They are great at what they do and we will continue to volunteer!

I adopted my little Charlie (formerly Lucky) from the Houston Humane Society in August 2019. He was a favorite of one of the volunteers there. I wish I had gotten her contact info or gave her mine, so I could show her how well he's doing. He had heartworms when I adopted him, but he is free of them now. We love him so much and couldn't imagine life without him.
Fun fact: His favorite room in the house is the kitchen, because he knows that's where the yummy treats and food is. He's such a cute little beggar. =)
I was impressed by the facility at the Houston Humane Society. It was very clean and the animals looked well taken care of. The workers/volunteers were very friendly, too.

The people who work here are the most caring and compassionate crew I have come to admire so much. They are top notch in all the do. From the EZ stuff like low cost vaccinations, Spay/Neuters, and flea medicine, to the real hard stuff like many surgeries, some dental, and compassionate euthanasia. These folks do an unbelievable job in caring for our pets. Did I mention that the prices are below regular veterinarian costs! I have many animals and I need all the extra help i can get when it comes to vet clinic costs. The Houston Humane Society has made that possible for us. Highly recommend! A+A+

We love when individuals or families go out and adopt a pet, but it is very important that everyone understands that it is hard work.

That’s how we started, people taking animals home and then deciding they did not want to do the “musts” in caring for them.

Please adopt responsibly!

This is Leo, formerly known as Elvis. We were so blessed to be selected to be hope family 2 years ago. The Humane Society was so professional with the meet and greet but also so concerned and caring for the well being of this beautiful puppy. We came to see him a couple weeks before Christmas and there were several families there to meet him. They said we were the last family who was going to see him and then he needed a break because it was so overwhelming for they’re age to do see all these families. The person supervising over the visit asked several questions during the visit to get a feel for the right home for Leo. She asked if we had experience with a puppy and what home life would be like. This was the first time I had been interviewed to be a potential adopter but it was so heart warming to know they cared so much that he would go to a wonderful forever family. We were added to the waiting list and pleaded our case to the employee collecting the application and were told we would be informed in a couple days. When I received the phone call, I was overjoyed to hear that we were selected as Leo’s new family! We were so excited and 2 years later we still feel so lucky and blessed to have him in our family. We still go to the Humane Society to get his vaccinations and visit the store for any fun toys or supplies they may have to give back however we can. We are so thankful for him and the Humane Society of Houston who gave him a good home until he found his forever home with us.

We went to HHS to look for a cat - but knew we don't want 'just a cat's but the perfect one... We had the best experience by being chosen by a cat that we could pick up the next day, after a final check-out from the vet. It was the weekend, so many people came by and the staff had a lot to do. But they tried their best and we would definitely recommend everyone to go there and look for a pet. You can go there and look for a pet and come back another day, if you don't find the perfect match.
Our cat is with us for 10 weeks now and is definitely a great addition to our family.

We were heartbroken for our loss and further heartbroken to have a silent house with no dog. Fortunately, we found that the Houston Humane Society was continuing adoptions in a carefully controlled way. All that wonderful rescue work, those long hours of rehab for the abused, the love and care your volunteers and staff work so hard to end the suffering of homeless animals, gone to hell in a hand basket with the decision to declaw cats. Declawing is an unnecessary amputation of the P3 bone for conveniece and vanity of self- centered, materialistic people. Declawing is currently illegal in 44 countries, some counties in California, with legislation to out law the mutilation in New Jersey. You are discriminating against cats, unless you also Declawing dogs. Please stop. Saying you are humane when you Declawing is false advertising. Watch #PawProject.

Or do you really want the notoriety of being the only humane organization in the country that declaws?

Actually I'm posting on here because I don't believe this place is actually a nonprofit place. Ever go there? They don't have incredible low prices although I'm sure they do a lot of free spading but still. It would be interesting to see the amount of money it takes in and what actually gets report3d etc...Could it actually be making some rich? Does anyone actually audit these places? Do the doctors actually volunteer there time for free? Does it have a paid board of directors?

Hi Matt, In regards to our pricing, we strive to provide high quality care at the lowest possible pricing. In addition, we offer special events (some even free) throughout the year like our Fix Felix for FREE event, our Hurricane Prep event, etc. In regards to auditing, our organization gets audited every year by an outside company. We are completely transparent and provide our financial information on both Charity Navigator and GuideStar for the general public to see just where every single dollar goes. We do pay our veterinary staff (like most if not all clinics regardless of nonprofit status) of 3 doctors as well as multiple vet techs, support staff, etc. Our Board of Directors is not paid, they are all volunteers. I hope this helps clear up some of your questions.

I owned a teacup Pomeranian which we lost one week before Christmas. My family was devastated! My family in Houston persuaded me to visit the Houston Humane Society to save a dog from possible euthanization. I took my children reluctantly but there were no Pomeranians available so soon during the Christmas season I could find. GOING TO THE HOUSTON HUMANE SOCIETY WAS THE BEST DECISION WE COULD HAVE MADE. We adopted Evander, formerly known as Peanut... He is the most appreciative Beagle puppy. He has helped our family heal! Rescue animals are soooo appreciative. They seem grateful to have a loving home and so much love. He has a cigarette burn on his forehead so his previous owners or handlers were evil!!! We were so happy that we made an additional donation to the Houston Humane Society. NOW MY DISAPPOINTMENTS- 1. they made it so difficult to adopt. We drove 5 hours to adopt and owned a VERY EXPENSIVE DOG SO WE OBVIOUSLY LOVE DOGS!!! but they made us jump through hoops and hurdles to get Evander. My kids were already devastated with the lost of our previous dog and it was Christmas so I was willing to make repeat trips to get Evander. Yet, HHS should make it easier, not difficult to find good homes for pets. THERE WERE SO MANY DOGS THERE! We wanted to take them all home so why make it so difficult. 2. They are a little understaffed. I came on Sunday and I still had to wait so long for service... it was worth the wait for Evander. 3. I AM STILL WAITING ON MY RECEIPT FOR MY DONATION!!! they did not seem grateful for the donation... 4. They gave us so many criteria to fulfill in order to return for another dog. Our vet located here in New Boston, Texas- outside of Dallas, 5 hours outside of Houston- has to send so much data to HHS for the next year. He is refusing and says that the demands are ridiculous but HHS says it is their policy and state law...

Overall, LOVE EVANDER HATE THE PROCESS BUT WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN AN INSTANT FOR HIM. Thanks HHS but please update your services and make it more pet owner friendly. I plan on returning to HHS and adopting another rescue animal in the future to prevent him/her from being euthanized.

I thought this organization is a heaven place for temporary animal shelter, but, in reality, this is a killing place for drop-off animals. I dropped off a very healthy cat on 10-20-2014 at Houston Humane Society (after paid $35 and give my cat 10 cans of cat food) due to moving from a house into an apartment. On 10-22-2014, I found an adopter with big house. My friend came on 10-22-2014, the Spanish guy working at this organization informed us that he had euthanized or killed my healthy cat on 10-21-2014.

This Spanish guy working at this organization also told us that Humane Society will euthanize any animal older than 10 years old. Don't understand why this organization didn't post his statement in their website. If I knew this problem, I would never turn my cat into this killing organization.

I have a colony of feral cats in the neighborhood. I trapped them and took them to the Houston Humane Society Low Cost clinic to get fixed. They make it very affordable to spay/neuter 4 of them. If I took them to a private clinic, it would be more than $1000. This Trap-Neuter-Release project wouldn't be possible. One time, when they were fixing one of my feral cats, they found a bullet in his leg. They took it out and did not charge extra.

Because lots of people bring their pets there, the clinic is always busy, but the staffs are very efficient and patient. I wish they have more money to hire more people to share the workload in the clinic.

The Houston Humane Society is doing a lot of actual work to help animals and their owners. Definitely deserves 5 STARS

I just turned in 6 beautiful kittens, because I already have 8 more kitties in my backyard and I thought that baby cats have more chances for adoption. Dennys (the receptionist) was very nice to me and sweet when I was talking while crying because I love all the creatures that step into my yard especially those kitties and will miss them all. I have already get them spayed and neutered with rabbies vaccination before I went there to let them know that I care about those kitties and all are healthy to put into the adoption. If only I can keep them all I will. So pls , TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS ORGANIZATION AND TELLING THEM TO NOT TO ADOPT IN THIS PLACE,, WHY YOU HAVE TO TAKE AWAY THE CHANCES OF THE ANIMALS TO HAVE A HOME. Please, those animals inside are innocent. Give them their chance, please.

I adopted my dog from HHS, and he has been the greatest addition to my family! The staff and volunteers took the time to help me find the right pet, and although they are extremely busy I felt like they took the time to really listen. I would highly recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt a new pet. Not only will you have the satisfaction of giving a homeless pet a forever home, but you'll be treated great during the process.

My wife and I have been looking for a second dog as a companion pet. The staff at Houston Humane Society helped me find another breed that play well together. Both our dogs are the best of friends to themselves and us. Thank you Houston Humane Society!

I wanted to write this letter of gratitude for all the hard work everyone does at your facility. I adopted Lucy (Gina) from you back in April. She was heartworm positive and I was told she was a R.A.I.D.E.R. rescue from November, and would probably have a lot of problems. I can tell you that Lucy is the sweetest, friendliest, smartest dog I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my home with. She made it through heartworm treatment, without a hitch and has a clean bill of health to show for it. She has no behavior problems, in fact when I tell people her story, they think I’m exaggerating. From day one she walked on her leash, went to the door when she needed to have potty break, and has not chewed on anything that is not hers. She enjoys cuddling up in her chair by the window, in her snuggy, and basking in the sunshine. She likes to be brushed and have her nails painted. She likes to walk to the Discovery Green, downtown and bark at the horses. She has lots of toys, but prefers to play with me and any little kid she meets. She is also, very tidy and does not make messes, and loves to take baths! I’ve been spreading the word and advising anyone looking for a new addition to their home to visit HHS. The staff was friendly, efficient, and informative. There was a young man who helped me, brown hair and worked at the front desk, I cannot remember his name- but I can tell you he was very helpful and appreciated. I was nervous about visiting HHS, I thought it would be crowded and unsanitary, such as other rescue groups that I had been to. Although there were a lot of homeless animals, everyone of them seemed to be well cared for, and in a clean comfortable space. The facility is lovely and in a few more months when Lucy is ready, we will visit again and see if we can find her a playmate. Until then I will keep spreading the news and singing the Houston Humane Societys praises!

I started at HHS cleaning the cat adoption rooms, then moved to what ever needed to be done. I've always worked hard and loved every minute. All my dogs have been adopted from the organization. Recently I foster a set of 3 pups. I was both thrilled and a little sad to get them to forever homes. Don't kid yourself, that is a lot of work to do and keep your real 9-5 job. Not every boss understands you will be late if the potty pad supply is out.

I chose this vet because friends recommended it. The staff were friendly and professional. Now I take my other pets there for shots and treatments. I was so impressed by the care they gave the animals I became a volunteer.

I started volunteer work with the HHS in about 1996 after losing a dog to cancer. I quickly became friends with the executive director. Over the years I've done work with them on different occasions for fundraising events and office work. I work for a non-profit foundation that firmly believes, as I do in the Mission of HHS. Their staff is very dedicated to their cause, and to the volunteers who mean so much to their every day operations. Without them they could not function as well. As far as I'm concerned they are the best animal welfare organization in Houston. Recently I adopted an addition to my family, after waiting for 16 months after I lost a lab/retriever mix to bone cancer. I was a difficult decision, but I had been watching the website and saw a black lab. I adopted her and about a week later she became deathly ill with some kind of upper respiratory infection. After 5 days in a row of driving to the HHS Wellness Clinic and back, fluids, strong antibiotics, B-12 shots, and nutrients and then 2 more trips, she is a happy, healthy dog. I thought I was going to lose her, but with the help of the vet and his staff, she's healthy and never lets me out of her sight. Words can never express my gratitude to them.

I am currently disabled and have pets that I have in my care. I felt at a loss when I became disabled and could not get shots etc. for my dogs. I found the Houston Humane Society and they were a big help. I was not the only one there and as I spoke to many of the other clients. I was told over and over that they would not have been able to keep their pets well and current in their vaccinations. All of my dogs are rescue dogs and I am glad that there are places like the Houston Humane Society available for people to find a forever home for an unwanted animal.

This is the best group of people with whom I have ever worked. I've adopted 3 cats from them over the years. I have looked at other animal shelters, but keep coming back here because of the people.

Reviewed web site, found the dog I was interest in and began the adoption process. The Houston Humane Society staff was very helpful in the adoption process. The Houston Humane Society does a great job of getting the word out though facebook to help get as many animals as possible placed in forever homes. I greatly appreciate the work they do for the animals who need a second chance.

I have many pets and most of them have been spayed or neutered at the Houston Humane Society. They have been great to me and to my pets. Thanks to their low-cost services, I am able to be a more responsible pet-owner.

As a "poor college student", I wasn't able to get my new dog spayed at any of my local vets. Their prices were ridiculously high and way out of my budget. I decided to check out the Houston Humane Society's clinic prices. My family has adopted all 5 of our dogs from HHS. Every time we had a great experience and found the perfect companion. I knew I could trust them and decided to get my dog spayed at the HHS clinic. The price was unbeatable and they took wonderful care of my little girl. I really like how they offer their clinic services to everyone. It just shows how committed they are to bettering animals' lives. In order to prevent more strays, it is vital we spay and neuter our pets. HHS understands this and provides these services to everyone at a low price.

Tell your story here and help others understand this charity From the moment I stepped foot into the Human Society in Houston, I was immediately impressed. They have a beautiful facility, and their staff was extremely kind and helpful. I inquired about adopting a cat (or two!) and I was given a quick form to fill out, then I was ushered in to meet the cats. I really enjoyed talking to the volunteer in the Kitty Condo's, as she was able to tell me about the different personalities of the cats I was meeting. With so many adorable cats to chose from, it was hard to only pick two! I've had Natty & Bruno for almost a year now, and I'm so glad the Humane Society was able to provide me with a great experience and such sweet companions.

There are many worthy organizations that help animals. Sadly, sometimes the organizations aren't well run or aren't very effective in accomplishing their goals. The Houston Humane Society is constantly working to raise awareness, stay in touch with the public, raise funds, and put the funds raised to good use. They have a great facility, they offer wonderful care to the animals and they are very helpful to members of the public seeking to find a new pet. I feel comfortable in knowing that any money or effort I donate is going to be used well and is going to help animals directly. Not just in helping and finding homes for them, but in helping raise awareness in the public, which I think will result in a culture that cares about the well-being of animals.

The Houston Humane Society is awesome! I was looking to bring a new dog into my home and it was important to find a good match for not only me, but also with my other dog. The staff was so patient and helpful in my search and it was very clear to me that they were just as interested in their animals finding a good home and match as much as me. I looked at several rescue groups and organizations, but the HHS really cared and went the extra mile to help me. They are doing such AMAZING work in saving so many precious animals that are abandoned or from abusive puppy mills. I am there biggest fan and proud to say that Jenna, my newest little family member, is triving and surrounded in love. Thanks HHS!

My husband and myself pick up our new puppy this afternoon. I have been so pleased with the Houston Humane Society. Everyone in this organization gives 100%. They all treat these animals as if they were their own. Now that we are almost through with our whole process for our new baby girl we have two neighbors coming to pick out new dogs. I have adopted dogs in the past from other Humane Society Organizations but nobody compares to the HHS.
