Programs: • EMERGENCY HOUSING FUND: HIF's emergency housing assistance grants work to help prevent residents of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties from becoming homeless. Rather than duplicate existing services, we build upon what is already being done in the community. HIF partners with emergency services agencies that provide case management for clients in need of our one-time, financial bridge emergency housing grants of up to $2,500, assisting individuals and families seeking to avoid homelessness or to transition away from unsuitable living conditions. These grants may be used for past-due or current-due rent, a security deposit, or utilities. The situation must be due to a recent unforeseen emergency and the clients must demonstrate their ability to meet future expenses after the grant is awarded. • RENOVATIONS PROGRAM: HIF works with non-profit housing providers in our community to help them provide quality housing and safe environments for their residents. Most shelters and non-profit housing providers in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties lack financial resources, staff expertise, and organizational capacity beyond routine facility maintenance. HIF’s renovation program fills this critical gap with access to the expertise and resources within the multi-family housing industry, including in-kind donations of material and labor, to complete facility renovations and upgrades at significantly reduced costs, allowing them to focus their own funding on vital services for their beneficiaries. Through these projects, HIF betters the quality of life for many of the Bay Area’s most vulnerable demographics, including: homeless veterans, women in recovery, victims of domestic violence, and low-income senior citizens.
