What a wonderful group of volunteers! They not only care passionately about the bunnies, but they also care about each other.
The House Rabbit Society of Missouri came out to one of our events. The staff/volunteers were incredibly kind and patient with our special needs participants. They brought out rabbits that were really calm and left our space completely clean. We love the House Rabbit Society of Missouri!
I felt so supported when we adopted our bunny from them! They made sure we were a good fit with the bunny and they were always available to answer our questions. We received comprehensive education prior to adoption, during which we learned a lot despite having had rabbits before. I felt so welcomed and supported that I started volunteering. I feel lucky to be part of this community and am grateful for all the bunnies and people who make my life happier.
The House Rabbit Society of Missouri by day is amazing. Every volunteer is extremely knowledgeable in rabbit care. Joy puts on a fantastic educational class before someone can even adopt from the society. Once you have taken the class her volunteer team get right to work on fitting you and your family with the right bunny. After loosing our 1st beloved bunny unexpected, they helped answer any questions possible, then when we were ready they helped us find the best rabbit that would fit our family needs and wants. They will let you sit and visit with as many rabbits as you would like then give you time to think of which one would you would like. They also are willing to continue and help you with any questions or needs you may have once you have adopted you bunny family member. Hands down the best and we will always recommend them to anyone interested in a rabbit.
I adopted a rabbit from the Missouri House Rabbit Society 10 years ago. This was not the first rabbit I have adopted and after speaking with Joy (and taking her educational class regarding rabbits), I was amazed at how much I didn't know prior. My love of rabbits influenced me to become a volunteer at the shelter. I love seeing all of the rabbits excited faces when 'company' arrives and I am thankful that there is a wonderful organization looking out for the well being of these wonderful animals.
This group does tremendous work to rescue abandoned rabbits. They are an all volunteer group. They are also actively advocating improvements in veterinary care for rabbits, there are very few vets that have expertise in treating rabbits.
I volunteer at the House Rabbit Society. The environment we provide for the bunnies is amazing. Being able to help provide love and attention to these wonderful furry pets has been so fulfilling for me. The shelter is clean and well organized by all the volunteers. We help people find their perfect pet!
As a novice bunny owner, I found MOHRS through their vet. What started as volunteering once or twice a month several years ago grew into a passion and love for everything bunnies - rescue, rehabilitation, education, adoption, and behaviors. This was a community I didn’t know I needed, and I fell in love. Becoming such an involved member in a rescue organization shows you the good, bad, and very ugly. I’ll forever be thankful for this organization - the immeasurable commitment and compassion for each animal, the volunteers, rescue team, care teams that help get our shelter bunnies adopted into loving homes (100% volunteer organization btw!).
I have been acquainted with the House Rabbit Society of Missouri for over 14 years, discovering it when I was in desperate need of a place to board my bunnies. It has been a wonderful relationship because the group has educated me and hundreds of others about the health and care of House Rabbits. Selected members are on call to answer questions when a problem happens with one's rabbit, directing them when to go to the vet. Grooming services are also provided. The organization has a store with foods, toys and other items recommended for rabbits. The boarding service is outstanding and rabbit owners know that their bunnies are being cared for in an environment that is calming for the bunnies with no dogs as are found in regular kennels. I have become a weekly volunteer because I wanted to help provide services I have found so useful for other rabbit owners.
Years ago my son brought home a little bunny that he had purchased from a mall petstore. He set it down in the family room and exclaimed "Look what we have!" I looked at his adorable tiny fluffball and asked him "What do we do with it?" I grew up with dogs and an occasional cat, but had never been around a pet rabbit. So we bought supplies, set up an environment and proceeded to take care of our new pet.
One day I saw an invitation to attend an event hosted by the House Rabbit Society of Missouri. There were educational stations covering topics including housing, nutritional needs, bunnyproofing, behavior and health, with opportunities to ask any questions we had. I learned that we were doing some things right and others wrong. There were also many appropriate supplies and toys available for purchase. We came home with the information we needed to adjust Chip's environment and better understand her behavioral, medical and enrichment needs.
This organization is truly an amazing resource for anyone interested in domestic rabbits.
The House Rabbit Society of Missouri is celebrating its 25th anniversary. That is pretty amazing for an all-volunteer no kill facility. The organization started out in the basement of our chapter manager and now has its own building with its main space for the rescued rabbits but also an intake room, a boarding room, med room, an education room where all new adopters go through an orientation program, and a shop where members can buy all products needed for their domestic rabbits from food to housing and toys. There is a meet and greet room where a volunteer will help with rabbit adoptions, bonding rabbits, nail trims, etc.
The volunteers at HRS of MO are knowledgeable and friendly. They are available for a phone call at all hours if rabbit owners have an emergency. They are also available to help with housing and other rabbit related questions or problems. They do programs to educate people, including veterinarian students, about rabbits. Volunteers attend various events in the St Louis area. I never cease to be amazed by the time that volunteers are willing to dedicate to the organization.
I have been fortunate to have the support from HRS volunteers when I have questions about the rabbits I have adopted - what to do if the rabbit won't eat, advice on the food products especially hay and food pellets, what kind of toys might be interesting for my rabbit, etc.
Happy 25th anniversary House Rabbit Society of Missouri!
I found my precious Curtis here after losing my sweet old cat Raven in 2017. Even after reading several books I still didn't feel like I knew enough about rabbits to get one so I started looking into rescues and found MOHRS. When I first saw Curtis he looked so sad I just had to see him. He took to me right away and I just knew he was meant to be mine! The staff was so sweet and helpful when I bought all his supplies and even recommended their vet to me, which was a huge weight off my mind because I wasn't going to even get a bunny if I couldn't find anyone to treat them. I'm forever grateful to this rescue for helping me find the right bunny to help mend a broken heart!
I am a volunteer at the Bunny House, but before that my husband and I adopted our beautiful bunnies there. Without MO HRS and its wonderful staff, there is no way these bunnies would have survived being abandoned by a breeder to become such an important part of our family. Rabbits are so intelligent and giving, and we continually learn new ways to connect with them and keep them healthy through the people at the Bunny House
An all-volunteer organization devoted to saving rabbits and serving the community. This is a tremendous group of dedicated volunteers.
The House Rabbit Society of Missouri is a wonderful all volunteer organization that rescues and adopts house rabbits into wonderful loving homes. I have been volunteering there for over 20 years and have found it to be one of the most caring and loving environments for rescued animals. As this organization is all volunteer 100% of the money goes to helping the Bunnies.
The Missouri House Rabbit Society of St Louis has provided my family companions, knowledge, and a place to grow as a person. I have 2 children with autism and MOHRS has provided a safe place for my family to grow, volunteer and serve our community.
This is the Best place to volunteer at if you love bunnies. The people are so friendly, helpful and fun to work with. The plus is after the work is done we get to love on bunnies.
The House Rabbit Society of Missouri, St. Louis Chapter, is an amazing group of people providing a much needed service. The organization is staffed by volunteers so all donations go into the care of rabbits and education efforts. This no-kill shelter rescues over 100 abandoned rabbits every year and takes in hundreds of others who are surrendered, often by people who bought a cute little baby bunny at Easter for a child and then decided they didn’t want it any more after it was fully grown. Their education efforts help prevent this sad treatment of house rabbits by advising prospective rabbit owners of exactly what is involved before they adopt a rabbit and by providing ongoing support. The staff is friendly and includes people of all ages, from responsible teens to seniors and everyone in between. I’ve been volunteering for a few weeks and I’m so impressed with the organization and all the people involved. Through them, I met a bunny that I think will make a great companion and will be taking her home soon. Volunteering is a great way to learn about rabbit care and finding a bunny that is ideal for you. HRS is doing great work here and across the country. Highly recommended.
