I’ve adopted two sweet kitties from House of Dreams (HOD), a small free-roam shelter in Portland. The shelter is all volunteer run & the volunteers are very dedicated to the shelter. HOD is great & my two sweet kitties - Gigi & Maggie were just the loveliest cats.

They take FIV positive kitties who are kept separate from the negative ones. All are free to roam and play with all the kitty toys in both sections. They receive all vet care, meds, and special food as needed, and find forever homes for about 30+cats a year. Staff is all volunteer and all adore kitties. House of Dreams is a wonderful place.

As a recent volunteer, I am impressed by their on-boarding and volunteer support. I was provided structure and clarity and found everyone I asked questions of approachable and invested in providing assistance. The care for the animals themselves is evident in how willing people are to cover each other for inevitable crises and callouts. And best of all CATS

I have been a volunteer for several years and I have seen how well we treat our cats. There are people who make the cats are fed and get their meds, as well cleaners and socializers who make sure the cats are living in a clean home and get the attention they want.
I have also adopted two cats from HoD as well, and the cats I adopted were always a great choice and that tells me how much socialization improves their quality of life.

Wonderful organization that clearly loves each of their many cats. Devoted volunteers who went out of their way to accommodate our visits and went above and beyond to ensure our adoptees had a smooth transition. They are deeply invested in making sure each of the cats finds the right forever home. Cats who are harder to adopt are getting great attention, play time, and nurturing while at this lovely shelter.

House of Dreams IS a dream come true, where age is no barrier, and where adorable senior sisters found love, comfort and companionship! It took the virtual village of committed individuals who reached out in the name of love and found ‘arms wide open’ acceptance into this amazing safe place to land after great loss in their lives. Their purrfect adoption thrilled me beyond belief. Forehead kisses to Emma and LuLu from their dad in Heaven and a big hug to Meagan who believed in them.

As a long-time volunteer for this unique cat shelter, I have nothing but good to say about House of Dreams. It is the only area shelter to take cats with Feline Leukemia with the promise to find them a good home or keep them in our own home-like facility for the rest of their lives. HOD also cares for other cats as well. An all-volunteer-run facility, they rely on love and donations to continue to care for these vulnerable cats. Each cat is loved and cared for, including all medical care, for as long as that cat requires.

I have volunteered at House of Dreams for several years. I love the fact that is free-roam so the kitties can wander about, look out windows, play, get the zoomies, snuggle with others or curl up in a cubby by themselves.
The volunteers are very dedicated to looking after the cats and the shelter and also a really nice group of people.

This shelter has the best volunteers who take care of cats that need rescuing and find them loving homes. The shelter has no age or medical limit for the cats they take in, and they are one of the few in the area that accepts cats who test positive for feline leukemia. Despite the shelter being small, they make sure that each cat gets all the medical care needed, including seeing specialists. The volunteers are very welcoming and supportive.

The volunteers are such wonderful people, the people who run it are amazing, and everyone clearly loves and cares for the cats. They are such a thoughtful organization, I'm so happy to have found them, and they fly under the radar for local pet organizations. I would love to see them get more exposure. An all volunteer shelter that hosts both flv + and negative kitties in separate quarters where they are free to roam around. All the furnishings are for cats and they have lots of toys and treats. They receive any needed vet care, special diets and medication if necessary.
It’s a great place to volunteer or find your kitty soul mate.

I love this place. They take in the kitties that others won't and if they can't find homes, they give them such a great life in the shelter. When I went there, I loved how the cats were able to roam around and weren't stuck in a room. I didn't end up adopting from there, because the kitty I bonded with had a lot of medical needs and, at the time, I wasn't financial able to care for her, but HOD will always have a place in my heart

We have adopted two cats from House of Dreams over the years. While spending time at the shelter to meet the cats, we saw how well-run the facility is and how much the volunteers care for and about the cats. Because it is a free-roam shelter, the cats are able to interact with each other or find their own space away from others, as they choose. We could get a good feel for how a cat would work out in our own home.

Someone told House of Dreams about me, a person who desperately wanted a pet cat but did not think I could properly care for it because of my physical limitations and often-changing caregivers. Jennifer and Mark of House of Dreams came to me with all necessary supplies for a cat and a 14-year-old beauty who couldn't get along with anything or anyone. They know their cats, we were completely bonded within a day. Chloe Star has been with me for 2 years now. No one thinks she's 16 years old. She acts like a kitten and loves everybody. Every month House of Dreams people go far beyond what could be asked of them and come cut her nails and apply flea medicine. They are wonderful people. She has been the greatest gift I have ever received.

House of Dreams Cat Shelter is a really special place. It's all volunteer run -- all of the money raised goes to take care of the kitties' food, medical, and housing needs. Most of the cats are free roaming, although there some condos for new cats that are acclimating to the environment and those that have special diets or health needs. House of Dreams specializes in elderly and sick cats, and it's one of only a few shelters that takes FeLV+ cats. The house is divided in half so the FeLV+ and non-FeLV cats have separate spaces. Each day, 5 volunteers clean the house from top to bottom, 3 volunteers take care of food and meds, and 2-3 socializers come in to play with and groom the cats. Plus there's a medical committee, an intake/adoption committee, and many, many more volunteers that are dedicated to caring for these precious souls. I'm a volunteer and board member and am also foster mama to Aroo, a big ole polar bear-tabby cat that came from HOD. I love House of Dreams!

My wife and I first became aware of House of Dreams 11 years ago when we found and brought home our two little kitties that House of Dreams had taken in after they had been abandoned on a construction site. At the time we were so impressed with the level of care and compassion we saw from everyone we came in contact with.
This year I began volunteering at House of Dreams and my admiration for the dedication of the all-volunteer staff has only increased. Each day volunteers make sure all the kitties have clean and comfortable accommodations, individually-tailored food and medical care, and lots of attention and play time.
House of Dreams has always taken in senior cats and cats with medical issues that they know will make them harder to place in a “forever home”. Many are but if they are not they will still always have a safe and welcoming home surrounded by people that love them.
Whether you're looking for a loving little soul to welcome to your home, a group of caring volunteers you would like to help support, or a rewarding organization with which to become involved, you can find no better place than House of Dreams.

I've volunteered for this small, wonderful shelter run entirely by volunteers for 7 years and plan to do so for a long time to come. House of Dreams takes in many older cats and cats with feline leukemia, many of whom wouldn't be considered as adoptable at other shelters. One side of the shelter is dedicated to kitties with leukemia; House of Dreams is one of the only shelters who provide a home to FeLV+ kitties.

House of Dreams is home to all of the shelter's cats until they are adopted, or if they are not adopted, they have a home at House of Dreams for the rest of their lives. They all receive individualized attention and any vet care, specialist care or emergency care needed. When it comes time for us to adopt again, we would very much like to adopt a cat from House of Dreams. The shelter is a special place that gives as much to me as a volunteer as I do to the kitties.

My wife and I have adopted two senior kitties from HOD. Tiny, about eleven years ago and who we eventually lost to renal failure and our current boy, Mr. Peterson. Both total loves! When Mr. Peterson crosses the bridge, we will be returning to HOD to adopt again. We like that HOD is a free roam shelter, where the cats can hang out with one another or find their own private spot, depending on their mood. They are obviously doted on by the volunteers and are well taken care of. We also like that HOD takes in harder to adopt cats - seniors and those with health issues - and do a great job of finding them forever homes. HOD is an all volunteer shelter, so all the money donated to them goes towards the care of the cats. In years past, HOD hosted a wonderful Bazaar in November with great handcrafted gift items, all donated by the makers. Due to Covid, they are doing an on-line Silent Auction this year. They also have an Etsy Shop. This is a grass-roots shelter run by very dedicated people.

Honored to have volunteered with and to still financially support House of Dreams! Not only does it provide a safe haven for special needs cats, it also finds special forever homes for so many.

There are very few places for cats with chronic medical issues, geriatric cats, cats carrying the Feline Leukemia virus--but when no one else will, House of Dreams provides the care and attention so they can thrive.

Not your routine animal shelter, House of Dreams offers a home-like environment for its resident cats, individual attention from a large group of volunteers, and medical care from partners ranging from general veterinarians to specialists and emergency care when necessary. Obviously, that increases expenses (and the vast majority of the budget goes to medical care), but maintaining the best quality of life for the dozens of special needs cats at the facility and in foster care is paramount.

Congratulations to House of Dreams for more than two decades of caring service to cats who otherwise would be abandoned, ignored, and forgotten--and best wishes for decades more!

This very intentional shelter is a comforting home to the most needy kitties.
Every room and cage are cleaned daily, volunteers arrive in shifts to clean, care, feed and medicate every day.
Communication and care are the top priorities, and each cat has blossomed at HOD.
Supporting the people who work for free, taking the cats to daily and emergency vet visits, is the best way to give back.

House of Dreams (HOD) is a long-standing no-kill, free-roaming, all-volunteer cat shelter housing about 30 cats in a residential neighborhood in Portland, OR. These kitties are frequently long-term residents, elderly and in need of medical attention. Many are adopted, but many remain in place. HOD is one of the few shelters that takes in, and cares for, Feline Leukemia-positive kitties of all ages. HOD raises money for medical expenses, food, dental care, cleaning supplies, and house operating expenses. The shelter's rooms are cleaned every day by volunteer crews and the kitties have frequent visitors for socialization. It's simply the best place to be outside of a fur-ever home of your own!
