I loved this rescue. They do it right with the full circle of care; physical and emotional health, rehab and training in a loving setting in preparation for rehoming to a forever home. So honored to volunteer for this amazing organization.
The people working and volunteering for Horse North Rescue are the most selfless, caring, giving, hardworking angels from heaven I have ever known! Everything they do is for the benefit of the horse - be it direct care, community education or assisting struggling owners and animals. Their team rescues and rehabilitates horses responsibly, carefully and thoroughly, then ensures they are adopted only to safe, loving, healthy, forever homes to live their best lives possible. These folks are doing exactly what they are meant to do and we are all better for their efforts!
I started volunteering for Horse North Rescue just over a year ago.
In that time I have met more responsible, caring, knowledgeable & compassionate people than I ever imagined possible.
This group works tirelessly caring for, rehabilitating, and then responsibly adopting out horses who had likely given up on life before getting lucky enough to come here.
These horses are instantly met with loving hands who provide them an appropriately tailored diet, fresh water, room to stretch and feel safe, physical & emotional support.
The board is made up of strong, compassionate, wise, equine professionals. And the volunteers are hardworking and loyal.
This group gives me hope. Lots of it. Thank goodness for Horse North Rescue.
I am so impressed with the integrity of this organization! The horses are well cared for and look terrific. Horse North Inc is top notch!
I am blown away by the efforts at North Horse Rescue. Through donations and out of pocket money, this group rescues horses that are not getting the proper attention & takes in horses that the owner feels they can no longer care for. The local animal control/sheriff’s department relies heavily on the volunteers at NHR. The volunteers asses the needs of each individual horse, rehabilitates, trains, locates quality new homes and provides a safety net for the horse’s future. We need more organizations like this one. HNR has my complete admiration!
So my daughter wanted to volunteer at a horse rescue years ago and she found HNR (Horse North Rescue). She couldn't drive at the time so we got to know everyone at weekly feedings and it didn't take me long to realize we should have done this years ago.
I had no idea there was so much neglect in the world and these beautiful animals would continue in that condition if caring organizations like HNR didn't exist. I'll attach a picture of two wonderful horses that I met at HNR when they first arrived at the rescue. It was a true eye opener for me.
This is an amazing organization run by caring people that exist to help horses that can't help themselves. There is a special circle in heaven for people like this..
The volunteers and Board of Horse North Rescue are totally about the horse...its rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming to a forever loving home. This rescue is completely run by volunteers, who give of their time, talent, and funds to keep this Rescue successful. Due to the tireless efforts of the Board and the other volunteers, over 250 equines have been given a second chance at a good life.
HNR is a wonderful rescue. They not only rehab sick horses but also educate people on feeding and care. They work with Animal control and people who can no longer can care for their horses. They are a non profit that is run solely by volunteers. Many whom have extensive experience with horses. They are caring and very passionate in what they do .

In 2011 I could no longer afford to properly care for my horses due to an accident I had in 2007. I had to find them new homes. I was devastated . I missed being around horses and had always dreamed of helping horses in need. In 2015 I started volunteering at HNR. I soon found out how caring and dedicated everyone is at HNR. I have sence become a board member and am always amazed at the time and hard work the volunteers put in. I have seen horses that had a lot of trust issues respond to the love and patience of the volunteers. They take time out of their busy day in freezing cold to feed horses before and after going work. Others do training, cleaning pastures and help in scorching hot weather during hay season.. Our President, Secretary and treasurer are also volunteers and put in many hours of their time. It is so rewarding to see a once terrified horse be the first one to greet you at the fence. It warms your heart to see these horses find loving and caring homes. I feel blessed to be part of this wonderful organization.
I have been with Horse North for over a year. This organization is dedicated to providing care to horses and humans in need. Horse North is run strictly by volunteers who donate countless hours of time to provide the best care possible for these horses. I enjoy working with this group and placing horses in their forever homes!
Horse North Rescue is a great organization run by caring volunteers. They fully vet their intakes and spend countless hours finding them forever homes. I have donated in the past and will continue to support this amazing group!
My first encounter with horse north rescue started when I was 9 years old. We adopted a horse from them and she became my baby. She was the first horse I learned English on, my first horse I took to the 4H fair, and all my friends grew up learning to ride on her.
When I was in high school, I entered a Christmas writing contest where you wrote about the charity you thought deserved a donation for Christmas. I remember the motto of my paper was “Give those a voice who cannnot speak for themselves.” That is beauty of this rescue. These volunteers give voices to these horses. They give them new starts, purpose, love, and with the help of wonderful adopters, homes. The volunteers and board members know the rescues all by name, their stories, their personalities, where each loves to be scratched, and who likes who in the pasture. They give these horses a voice, a story, and a happy ending to their journey for a forever home.
It isn’t easy caring for rescue horses. They need a lot of time, money, and dedication to get adoption ready. Any help you can give to this rescue would be more than appreciated. I have been Volunteering for HNR for the last few years. There is power in numbers. Even if you can only volunteer for one thing for the rescue, it helps!
There are a few ways you can help this rescue. You can donate through this page, go to the HNR page to fill out a volunteer or adoption application, select Horse North Rescue on amazon smile for your purchases, or donate your birthday on Facebook to raise money for HNR.
The biggest way you can help HNR is to learn about what the organization is and spread the word. You can be a part of giving these horses a voice and letting their stories have a happy ending!
My involvement with horse North rescue started when I needed an extra horse for my kids friends to ride so my first adoption occurred with a horse named Nikki. Then many years later I knew of a horse in a bad situation and came to Horse North Rescue for some guidance. I was so impressed with their great help I became a member. Since then I have seen what great things this group has done for horses. I am now a board member and so very proud to be part of horse North rescue
Horse North Rescue is 100% volunteer run.
The board members and volunteers put in so much of their own time and resources to help, even when it can become stressful and heartbreaking. The board members genuinely care for their volunteers and the horses and I have seen so many happy endings.
I’ve only been volunteering with HNR for the last couple months, but from what I’ve seen this Rescue is a beautiful part of our community. This non-profit is dedicated in giving their best to horses who are in need of help and they strive to provide them with the best of care until their forever family welcomes them home. I’ve enjoyed being apart of the volunteer group and have always felt welcome, involved, and up to date :)
I’ve been volunteering at HNR for several months now and I’ve seen them do incredible things for horses that came to them unhealthy and scared. The horses that leave this rescue are trusting, loved, and healthy. Each horse goes to the best possible home.
We adopted Louie while volunteering at horse north rescue. The rescue is run 100% by unpaid volunteers. The volunteers take on a huge responsibility and have made a big impact on the lives of horses who find themselves in bad situations. I am always pleased with the care, progress and fundraising efforts made by these individuals. When we adopted Louie we were excited to take on a project horse. As we worked with him he blossomed into a amazing boy. He is the most steady, level headed horse! It turns out he has had some pretty great training, but fell into a bad situation. We are blessed to have him in our lives. We no longer volunteer due to our busy lives, but are greatful for those who carry the torch!

I adopted my mare, Diamond, from HNR after losing my trail horse to colic in 2015. They made sure we were a good match with their trial period of a month to get to know each other. She is wonderful out on the trail and a lot of fun. Horse North was great to work with and does an amazing job of assessing and placing their rescues with appropriate homes. Diamond is sensitive and forward which I love about her but means she isnt for beginners or timid riders. They kept her and waited for an applicant with more experience to come along and I was the lucky one who got her! She just went on a ferry with me over to Mackinac island where we spent two days exploring trails and sharing them with bicycles and horse drawn carriages and she did amazingly well in the chaos. Thank you Horse North Rescue!!
We recently just brought home to handsome boys from this facility! We visited repeatedly and they were always open to that:). They came to our home and made sure the boys would be well taken care of!.They not only nurse their charges back to health , they also work on ground manners and training. We Love our new guys and they will be ours for life!
