Mission: Horizons Hampton Roads is an academic, cultural and recreational enrichment program designed to encourage students living in low-income circumstances to realize their full potentials. Horizons, working In partnership with families and communities, is committed to the development of the whole child through experiences that build problem-solving skills, foster awareness of community responsibility, instill respect for others, and encourage a life-long interest in learning. Horizons Hampton Roads makes a nine-year investment in students, inviting them in first grade and continuing to the ninth grade year. This program fills a gap between pre-school and high school programs targeted to these students.
Target demographics: low income children obtain summer enrichment programs to challenge them academically, socially and physically to meet with greater successes in school and in life.

- Two reading specialists at each Horizons Campus
- Hands on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) projects
- Enrichment opportunities such as sailing, chess, Lego robotics, and more
- Swim Lessons with a 100% success rate
- An over-arching annual theme which is woven through all academic and enrichment lessons
- Two nutritious meals and a snack each day
- Transportation for all aspects of the program

Horizons does a wonderful job in providing a summer enrichment program for disadvantaged children from our Title I, public schools in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach. Focus is STEM, socialization and skills leading to self-confidence leading to success in school, life and their becoming productive members of our community.
