Mission: Horizons For Youth fosters the growth and education of children through experiential programs that teach children to value the importance of the individual, the community and the environment. Horizons for Youth was founded in 1938 by Julius Stone. Originally named "Kiddie Kamp Korp" in opposition to the Klu Klux Klan, Horizons for Youth focused on bringing together boys from the inner city of diverse races and economic backgrounds to teach them to live and grown in harmony. True to the founder's vision, Horizons for Youth serves boys and girls from Greater Boston's inner cities. Campers are accepted regardless of their ability to pay. HFY programs provide a safe and caring environment where children are supported and challenged. The outdoors are used as a learning space featuring experimental learning, cooperative activities, group processing and problem solving through educational and recreational activities. Our programs focus on personal growth, social awareness, self-esteem, conflict resolution, goal setting, tolerance/acceptance, environmental issues/awareness, leadership development and community service.
