Mission: To help nearly 15,000 needy individuals and their families residing in a six village area by offering them a true "doorway to hope". This is done by providing easy access to compassionate conversation, allowing them to be heard and their issues to be properly diagnosed. After determining their immediate needs, they are assisted with either food, medical, dental and/or transportation vouchers, plus a clear pathway into the network of social agencies that can assist with the long-term restructuring of their lives, by helping move them out of living in a "crisis to crisis existence. "
Programs: Immediate assistance provides help for urgent needs for food and transportation in the form of vouchers, which includes meal and gas vouchers plus train and bus passes. Our referral enrollment assists with enrollment into non-profit and government healthcare programs such as access dupage, the affordable care act and allkids/family care. Budget assistance provides financial literacy education and budget counseling as provided by the illinois financial planning association and volunteers from seven local banks. They meet one on one with clients to mentor and educate them on such issues as saving and debt management. Clients enrolled in this program can open a savings account at one of the sponsor banks with matching funds. Pathways to employment provides assistance and job search strategies using career advisors. Access to local job openings are available, as well as equipment, such as computers, fax, phone, etc. And a weekly updated job list. They also receive help with items related to new employment, such as uniforms. Serve the working poor, the homeless and the unemployed through evaluation of their circumstances and assist with vouchers for food and transportation. Refer clients to other helping agencies, food pantries, employment organizations, etc.
special assistance addresses needs such as precscriptions, emerency housing for medical purposes, eye exams, eye glasses and employment related transportation and uniforms. Also, the health & wellness resource center links clients with pharmaceutical companies prescription assistance programs and disease state foundation. These programs provide medication, medical supplies, disease managment education and other resources to the low income underinsured or uninsured.
