I am the mother of two children who received home based ABA services through Hope Network located through the East Lansing, Michigan center from 2019 through May 2023. My youngest has Cerebral Palsy/ASD/Epilepsy and is immune compromised because of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia so we needed someone competent and aware of her issues. She also frequently has major GI issues and sleep issues because of spacicity causing her hip to dislocate. We would usually have sessions 85% of the time but gave plenty of notice if needed to cancel. They knew of these issues beforehand and agreed to still work with us.. Attendance compliance needed to be met 75% of the time per month which we were in compliance with after receiving 2 attendance letters. Most recently after having another tech leave they were going to use a male replacement who had never even been trained on my daughter (Each new tech is trained by another tech beforehand) No one from the center informed me of this change,, I found out from our 22yr old tech that was leaving.. This is someone who is alone with my child, in my home, for several hours per day, several days per week, there needs to be a level of security and feeling like my child is in safe hands.. EVERY tech we have had is under 23yrs old.. I wasn't comfortable with having a young male tech with my immobile,, non verbal child and told the BCBA, the next day I received a discharge letter saying I was in non compliance for attendance, mind you,, we only missed ONE of my daughter's sessions for the month! That is WAY under the 25% attendance allowance for the month. I received the letter May 12 which is in the middle of the month so it shouldn't even have been calculated yet according to their handbook. But since I didn't want a male technician and they are WAY understaffed, it was easier for them to stop services than put her therapies on hold until they hired someone. Totally unacceptable. I have numerous complaints on how they run that center and have worked with them since they first opened.. We went through at least 20 different behavior techs, 4 BCBA's with only 2 of them being completely wonderful. I even went to virtual parent training during the pandemic and wouldn't complain when techs wouldn't show up.. I overheard one technician being verbally rude to my son one day, the same one I would catch on her phone the majority of the time I would check on my daughter but would be perfect in front of me.. my son had a hard time recognizing when someone is treating him bad and I got to the bottom of it and she was quickly replaced. The BCBA even told me she couldn't think of any other help they could offer my son,, even though he JUST learned to tie his shoes and couldn't recognize his numbers or remember his address until recently. THAT IS HER JOB! All in all, I would not recommend the East Lansing Hope Network, they are understaffed and incompetent.

Hope Network has provided resources and support for the Developmentally Disabled population for longer than any other local organization. They dignify each and every individual and are respectful and sensitive to the needs of the person, family and the community. It is a true wrap around approach .

I volunteered for Hope Network for the Legacy Event in November 2010. I didn't realize the monumental impact Hope Network has had on the community over the years and continues to have throughout Michigan. It was an amazing event and truly moving to hear about Toby's inspirational journey with the support of Hope Network and see him accept the 2010 Independence Award. Hope Network is a wonderful organization and I will continue to support them in every way possible.

Hope Network truly makes a difference in thousands of people’s lives every day. They are an organization that is filled with passion and dedication which is so hard to come by.
Hope Network has allowed me to see a different side of wonderful people in our community today. This organization paints a great picture of a perfect community. They take everyone in, help all and open their arms to everyone no matter what their disability or disadvantage may be.
This organization does so much for the state of Michigan, If only everyone in our world had the mentality of those who work at Hope Network our world would be perfect
