The support group I attend is wonderful. However-- I WILL say--that logging on to sign up for the next month's group is a big challenge. Last month I was able to sign up easily. However, in trying to sign up for the June group, I've spent literally hours trying everything I could to find the field where I can simply click to sign up. The last resort is to call he main desk and ask, I hate to bother them, although they are always very nice.
There must be an easier and simpler way to do this.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and the facilitated bi-weekly support group was helpful to me. Nonie creates a safe, friendly and warm environment within the group, giving people the space to share their stories and express their emotions. Post-surgery I also participated in the gentle yoga which aided in my recovery. Both services were offered in person or virtual. I appreciated the virtual option which made it more convenient for me to participate.
Review from Guidestar
I give this organization a thumbs down. I complained about the usability of their website, and they cut me off from the support groups, or any other services they might provide. They denied me service because I complained.
They changed their policies so that I had to register for each and every support group meeting. Their website required me to successfully deal with a captcha before being able to register. Because of the treatment for cancer, my vision is poor, and I was unable to solve the captchas. On one occasion I tried 20 times to solve the captchas and was unable to do so.
I complained to the organization, but they were unable or unwilling to resolve the problem.
Another thing to keep in mind about this organization is that their offices are located in Grosvenor Mansion in Bethesda, which is a very expensive piece of real estate. They bought that mansion to use as office space instead of using a more economical space. Is that where the donors' money really should be going?
Hope Connections provides totally free services to people with cancer and those who love them. A full range of support from groups to mind/body, to education is offered. People really care about the participants and you are part of a community of mutual support.
As a daughter of a volunteer at Hope Connections, I have heard much from my mother about how great an organization Hope Connections is, and how great the people working at Hope Connections are. I've recently started volunteering there myself, and I'm finding the same myself.
Being diagnosed with cancer is scary. Doctors are great at their job, but what does one do with all the mixed emotions that come along with the diagnosis? Enter Hope Connections for Cancer Support- what a truly wonderful organization! The support groups are just what I needed while going through treatment and the yoga class is especially helpful on the body!
Reaches far into the community to support as many as they can with a warm and caring group of professionals!
A phenomenal organization that does such important work. Hope Connections's programs and services are highly appreciated and well-attended by participants. In my time volunteering, I have seen so many individuals who really see Hope Connections as an extension of their family. There aren't many other organizations accomplishing as much for cancer patients and their loved ones as Hope Connections accomplishes each year.
Hope Connections is my second home. Every Friday I attend the Strength and Balance group followed by meditation. For a few hours every week I get to forget I have cancer. It sets me up for whatever I have to deal with the next week.
Hope Connections is a warm, welcoming place where people with cancer AND their caregivers and loved ones can go to de-stress, find resources, learn about ways to navigate the cancer journey, and build community. Every time you walk through the front door, you find yourself enveloped in a sense of serenity. Hope Connections is an essential resource for anyone facing a cancer journey!
Staff goes out of their way to make everyone feel welcome! A loving environment is created not only by the surroundings of the building, but also from the minute you walk through the door - you immediately feel a sense of peace when there.
I CAME TO THE WELLNESS COMMUNITY FULL OF FEAR AND ANGER SWIRLING AROUND A SCARY DIAGNOSIS OF ADVANCED CANCER. THE STAFF WAS IMMEDIATELY WELCOMING, WARM, AND HELPFUL. I HAVE PARTICIPATED IN SUPPORT GROUPS, EDUCATIONAL/MEDICAL/NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMS, THERAPEUTIC RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS PURELY SOCIAL GATHERINGS THERE. I HAVE MADE GREAT FRIENDS AND FOUND MY OWN STRENGTH. THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN A GODSEND TO ME AND MY FAMILY.
