As a proud parent of a 6th-grade student at Hope Chinese Charter School, I've witnessed an incredible transformation in our daughter's educational journey. Her story at Hope began in Kindergarten, where she embarked on a path that not only nurtured her fluency in both Chinese and English but also enriched her with cultural adaptability skills. It's truly awe-inspiring to see her blossom and thrive in this unique environment, especially since we are an English only speaking family.
What sets Hope apart, aside from Chinese Immersion and high Math and Language Arts scores, is its charter status, which allows students from beyond our district to participate through a lottery system, making quality education accessible to many. As a public institution, Hope creates an opportunity for children seeking a global education - a mission that's more vital than ever in today's interconnected world.
Hope's mission is nothing short of exceptional. It's dedicated to fostering Global Fluency by nurturing Chinese and English language proficiency, cultivating cultural adaptability, and inspiring excellence in our students, with a vision to create a positive impact on the world. And the results are visible; Hope’s students consistently surpass their peers in meeting state-grade level expectations.
The school's journey from its inception is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Hope community. It all started in 2010 as a dream in a Saturday language school, where passionate parents observed their children thrive in Chinese classes and wanted more. What began as a vision soon gained momentum, involving educators, leaders, and community organizations, eventually culminating in the establishment of Hope Chinese Charter School in the fall of 2012.
The school's early years were marked by challenges, including launching during a period of severe district budget cuts, facing demanding charter requirements, and multiple rejections, all while not receiving any startup grants. Yet, the dedication of volunteers and teachers prevailed. They made sacrifices, worked tirelessly, and came together as a community to realize the dream of offering Chinese immersion education to local students.

Mission: Educating for Global Fluency by developing Chinese & English dual-language skills, nurturing cultural adaptability and inspiring excellence for a positive impact in our world.
Results: HCCS has demonstrated a longstanding ability to bolster student achievement across diverse demographics with a multilingual education, achieving school-wide test scores two times higher than the state average (Appendix 1, Figure 1). According to the Oregon Department of Education statewide assessment for the 2023-2024 School Year, HCCS ranked in the 99th percentile for Math and English Language arts and the 96th percentile in Science. HCCS is #1 in the state of Oregon for school-wide math proficiency. In addition, HCCS ranks as the #2 Elementary School in school-wide ELA proficiency in the state of Oregon. These results are why HCCS has been consistently named the #1 Best Charter Elementary School in Oregon and #2 Best Charter Middle School by ranking sites like Niche.com.
