I have been fostering for Hope for about a year now and can say that the volunteers behind Hope are some of the kindest, most selfless people who genuinely want the best for these dogs. I’m so thankful I found this rescue and got to see all the adorable faces come and go to their forever homes. Whether you’re looking to adopt, foster, or volunteer, I vouch that Hope is an amazing nonprofit to go with.
We had a wonderful adoption experience with Hope Animal Rescue. Bennie “BeepBeep” Boeing joined our family in mid-April, 2018. His foster family was incredibly responsive, arranging a first meet & greet right away! We felt, right away that Bennie (formerly Tucker - black & white #RatJack) would be a great addition, and his fosters arranged a next-day in-home visit. This sweet nugget has been home with us ever since!
Hope Animal Rescue offers compassionate, loving foster homes - which means a nice transition for pups, as they have been living “at a home” in real-life situations, many times with other pets, so you can learn about their temperment with others right away. We are so in love with little Bennie, and he loves his big sister, Lilly Chantilly! We highly recommend Hope Animal Rescue!
We adopted our Harper from Hope Animal Rescue almost two years ago and couldn't imagine our lives without her. She had the best foster parents who always got back to us in a timely manner and answered any questions that we had before we adopted her.
Hope Animal Rescue frequently takes in difficult medical cases and I love seeing all of their success stories. We've attended some of their fundraisers and I continue to donate now that we live out of state. They always take the time to send a thank you and let you know where the donation went to.
It is a great organization made up of caring people who want the best for each and every animal they take in. I've always been impressed with the dedication, organization, and transparency of the rescue. Like their facebook page and follow them on Instagram for the cutest pupdates :)
I have been involved with many good rescues but none come close to HAR. It’s one thing to save a dog and find it a home it’s another thing to take the dogs that needs major medical care that are older and hard to place. The animals get all the medical care they need while living in a loving foster home. When the dogs are ready for their forever home the potential adopters are throughly screened so they can be assured the dog going to its forever home - the very most important thing. The volunteers are amazing they open their homes and hearts to these animals and they operate as a fine tuned machine. Hope Animal Rescue is the very best I can’t say enough good and a 5 star rating doesn’t come close.
This awesome non-profit gave us a chance to heal with our awesome senior adopted cocker spaniel after we lost our first cocker baby to cancer the Christmas before. They work tirelessly to save senior and other special needs cases of pups around the state from over crowded shelters and foster them until the perfect forever homes can be found.
I chose to foster with Hope after seeing the compassionate and thorough care their animals receive while working the front desk at one of the vet clinics they use. They are always a joy to work with and volunteer for, so much so that my husband make long commutes to help with their mission!
It is an absolute joy to foster with a rescue that does so much. They pull from rural area shelters with less resources and chances for animals, they take in tough medical cases and many seniors, they host at least one adoption event a week-usually more, and they show love and great spirit through everything..
Before I began my fostering journey I adopted a loving high spirited cattle dog mix. They worked with me and my endless emails while looking to find the perfect companion for my family and our anxious shepherd mutt. They are now best of friends and our nervous girl was brought out of her shell by her new sisters craziness. Never did they seem put out by my barrage of questions. They truly want the best possible home for everyone.
I can not say enough good things about Hope. They are a blessing to the community as well as a selfless and inspiring second family to many.
I love Hope Animal Rescue! I've never worked with a more professional and caring group of dog lovers. The Executive Director and her team of volunteers, all of whom are unpaid, work so hard to give elderly, sick, and overlooked dogs a chance at a happy life. I've had positive experiences as both a foster and an adopter. Wouldn't recommend anywhere else if you're looking for a pup to add to your home in the Triangle area.
I am such a big fan of this organization, which is why I volunteer as a foster. Hope Animal Rescue is completely volunteer run, pulling overlooked and unwanted dogs from local shelters and giving them a second chance. After a few unsatisfying experiences with some other local rescues, both as a volunteer foster and as an adopter, I was really looking for a place that was professional and took the time to get to know every dog and its needs. Hope does that and then some. I am consistently impressed by the professionalism, expertise, and commitment of the other volunteers. They work hard to ensure that every pup brought into the organization finds the best forever home possible. I am so happy to be a part of this great nonprofit and to support its mission!
I came across Hope Animal Rescue early this year while I was looking to adopt a rescue dog. Their mission, passion, and dedication to rescue these animals is beyond anything I've come across. They put their heart into every single animal. They go above and beyond reasonable means to take care of these animals and place them in their forever homes. My experience rescuing Cory, (a senior Chihuahua) from HAR inspired me to become a volunteer and help their mission in any way I can. They are truly some of the most amazing people.
The volunteers here inspire me every day with their compassion and dedication to each other and to the dogs they save-they're hard working and make such a difference for the dogs in their care. I feel so lucky to have gotten the chance to work with them! Every foster I've met has been generous and patient with me, and so gentle with the dogs in their care. Every dog, even the seniors and medical cases, are a priority to them.
Marcia Gregory here in the Bull City, Durham,NC. I have always had such a love and desire to care for animals especially pups. I'm in my 6th decade and I do not remember ever not having a pup in my life. After becoming semi-retired, I started looking for a way to do more for the neglected and unwanted pups. My son adopted a precious pup from Hope Animal Rescue. Although I had looked at several possible opportunities to volunteer my time for pups, I became very interested in learning more about Hope Animal Rescue. After reaching out on their volunteer page, I immediately received instructions. I filled out a volunteer application and attended my first event at the Durham Farmer's Market. I received a very warm welcome by all . That was over a year ago and I missed very few HAR events. I love sharing the stories of the different pups to all that come to our events. In the fall of last year, I extended into the "temp" foster role. Having three pups of my own, I did not thin I could actually foster pups...boy was I so wrong! I would temp foster for long weekends or holidays, whenever their fosters had to go out of town. Early in 2018 I had the privilege to be a real foster. His name was Toby, a 12 year old blind and deaf Yorkshire terrier. After having him a short while, I suspected he may have a urinary tract infection so I contacted my director. Immediately she made arrangements for a vet check. He did have a UTI and chronic kidney disease as well. My director also made arrangements for a kibble diet to address his kidney issues. Toby was adopted my a wonderful young couple who chose a special needs senior. If not for being pulled by Hope Animal Rescue this little guy would not have made it. Instead he is thriving in a loving home and getting exactly what he deserves.
In the last month, I have seen 2 pups on death's door (Sweet Pea and Fluff fluff), pulled from shelters, given extensive ICU vet care despite the cost and become precious adoptable pups.
What impresses me more than anything is the desire of this organization to give a second chance to the special needs, the seniors that have been dumped because they are old, and the precious neglected souls. Cathy Threadingham is the reason there is a Hope Animal Rescue. The integrity, the choices, the care and the love everyone in this organization displays exemplifies how this organization shines above all. It is definitely a 5 star.
Hope Animal Rescue volunteers go above and beyond when it comes to pulling dogs from shelters and providing them with care. They frequently pull the dogs in need of costly medical care and older dogs who are often overlooked because of their age. They all have a passion for the animals and for what they do, and you can feel it when you talk to them. I rescued my first pup from there and they gave me all the information they had on him- the good, the bad, and the ugly. They are very upfront and want you to be informed prior to adoption. They’re adoption process itself is also great and you feel like it’s the right match prior to signing the papers. Even after the adoption, HAR has followed up and they’ve never hesitated to answer questions and offer advice. I wish I could give them more stars but 5 will have to do. They’re just outstanding.
Hope Animal Rescue is amazing. They matched me up with my best friend!
I was made aware of an older dog that was going to be put down because ownercdidnt want old dog. I contacted Cathy and she said would save him. A few months later he was adopted by wonderful family and lived out his life in love and luxury. I can never thank them enough.
Hope helped me find my sweet Cocker Spaniel senior in January of this year after my 14 year old was diagnosed with cancer last year and had to be put to sleep right before Christmas. It was so hard on my husband and I as well as our other senior dog and adopting another senior for our Chihuahua to have as a companion has helped us all to move on. They made the process so easy and understood the emotional aspect as well
I've adopted two fabulous fur babies from Hope. Cathy and the volunteers do an incredible job. I can't tell you how thankful I am for their mission and the hard work they do 24/7 to rescue needy and "unwanted" animals. They are truly incredible folks! Thank you for all you do and continue to make a difference one dog/cat at a time.
I can't say enough about Hope Anima Rescue and the fabulous work they do. From our amazing director, foster coordinators,,foster parents and volunteers. These wonderful people display acts of kindness and compassion like I have never seen before. The dogs and cats that are fortunate to be in the rescue receive the best medical care, training , are able to live in a foster home which makes them feel safe, confident and loved. There is a lot of careful decision making to ensure these pets will be placed in the right home for them and their new owners. As a foster I always have the support I need and when I need it from my director and foster coordinator. They are real gems and I wish more people would follow their example. This world would be a much better place.
My wife and I have been fostering with Hope Animal Rescue for the past 8 months, and we have nothing but good things to say about them. They show extraordinary care for every animal they take into their program, and they do a wonderful job of matching their pups with a home that will meet the needs of both the owner and the dog. All dogs in Hope's program receive spay/neuter services (when necessary), are properly cared for in a loving foster home, are socialized with both people and dogs, and receive monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Any potential adopter in the Triangle area should consider adopting from Hope!
I have volunteered and fostered with Hope Animal Rescue, and I couldn't rate them highly enough. The members of HAR work hard to make sure that dogs are treated extremely well, that fosters and volunteers have resources and support to ensure the best care, and that dogs are eventually adopted out to great families that fit well. Dogs have access to professional trainers, they get exceptional medical care, and the people at HAR are knowledgeable and thoughtful in their approach to animals. I think it says a lot that HAR is willing to take back a dog at any point after adoption if the dog didn't work out with the adopter for any reason. This shows that they care so much about these animals that they would rather take back a dog unexpectedly than have it end up back at a shelter. Further, Hope routinely takes in dogs that need expensive medical care, and dogs that are "challenging" breeds - dogs that other rescues have turned down. HAR values the lives of all dogs and is willing to work with dogs with behavioral problems, medical issues, seniors, or breeds that might end up being harder to adopt out. This is a wonderful organization!
I have adopted 2 dogs, Penny and Jax from Hope and am also a volunteer. Hope Animal Rescue truly cares about all dogs and will go above and beyond to save as many dogs as possible; including dogs with medical conditions and senior dogs.
Please see video of my dog Penny below. Her story is remarkable and it is all thanks to Hope Animal Rescue.
My husband and I first learned of Hope Animal Rescue, in Durham, NC, in 2013, after moving from Ohio to North Carolina, and we wanted to get involved with fostering. The mission of H.A.R. has always been about educating the public about rescues, finding loving homes for rescued animals, and saving lives. We were very much impressed with the strong dedication and devotion to their mission. My husband and I knew we had to get involved with the group, and applied to foster. We fostered our first pup in 2013, and have been priviledged to have fostered many more over the years. Since their beginning, Hope Animal Rescue has endured continuous hurdles obtaining funds for expensive medical procedures and treatments, illnesses and injury repairs of many rescued sheltered dogs, and medications. The group remains dedicated to their cause, and is deserving of high praise for continuing to grow from a few in 2013, to presently 140+ members. My husband and I feel honored fostering for H.A.R., and have been blessed with "rescue rewards" over the years, by adopting three of our previous H.A.R. fosters. Liberty Belle (2013), Bonnie (2016) and Clyde(2015) are now precious members of our family, and are daily reminders of the importance of rescue, and the need for such a life saving, and life changing rescue group as Hope Animal Rescue. It is a group of outstanding individuals, from each volunteer and foster, to the director, who, without her dedication, and her giving heart and soul, many lives would not have been saved.
It all started in July of 2013 when I saw the heartbreaking picture on Facebook of two terrified young dogs huddled together on a concrete floor of a shelter. I took the plunge, never looking back, and contacted HAR to answer their plea for a foster for those furbabies. They were suffering from mange, under weight and in desperate need of some major TLC. Over the next couple months Jack and Teddy (we got to name them ourselves) blossomed into two gorgeous little lovebugs. We were new fosters but never felt like we were alone. Help was always just a phone call or text away! Tears were shed when those boys left us. Some tears were because we were sad to see them go, but mostly tears of joy because Hope Animal Rescue had worked diligently to find their perfect new homes! We have fostered several babies since then, and all are special in their own right. We are proud to say we're part of The Hope Animal Rescue family. It's a great group of some great people, and everyone is dedicated to saving animals, and there's always a helping hand whenever one is needed. If anyone is even thinking of fostering, don't walk, RUN and sign up with HAR. You will meet some awesome people, and the rewards of fostering are priceless!!
