Working with the Veteran community can be one of the most rewarding and heart wrenching experiences I've had both professionally and personally. Being on the other end of a phone line of hopelessness is one of the hardest positions I've ever found myself in. HonorBound Foundation offers hope in some of the most uncertain times for the clients we serve. As a case manager, my role navigates the indepth needs of a veteran family holistically. HonorBound Fondation financial assistance referrals allows for me to work with the Veterans on additional areas of need without fear of a critical financial payment being missed. Because of HonorBound Foundation, a single dad fed his teenage daughter. Because of HonorBound a new Police Officer was able to keep his phone connected during a 30 no pay period. Because of HonorBound a husband and father was able to have the family vehicle repaired so he could go back and forth to work. This is just a few of the situations that they have offered hope. Because of HonorBound Foundation, lives have been changed for the better.

HonorBound offered this Social Worker Case Manager an opportunity to recognize my veteran's strength (Honorable Discharge), engage veteran in grant-writing request, and specifically address a lingering financial dilemma needing resolved. The efficient end-to-end process (from request to completion) is much appreciated (considering this SW's caseload).

Honorbound is an amazing organization providing essential financial assistance to veterans in need. At a time when resources seem to be even more limited, staff with Honorbound provide consistent communication and are extremely easy to work with in terms of submitting referrals. I appreciate that the agency is able to help with some needs that many other agencies will not even consider (i.e. a new bed for a veteran who was previously homeless). Thank you Honorbound for the amazing costumer service & financial support that you provide for our veterans.

Our team of social workers have utilized the Honorbound foundation to help our Veterans in need. Recently, they alleviated a barrier for a Veteran on my caseload who is wheelchair bound and had fallen on hard times. It brought him great relief to know his power wouldn't be shut off. I am extremely grateful for this foundation!

Wonderful organization that does great charitable work for veterans. They do their best to support and assist every veteran submitted to them. Their process of approval for financial assistance is one of the kindest, least intrusive for veterans and the case managers to navigate. The Honorbound reps are very responsive and helpful. They have served many of our clients over the last few years. I can not say enough good things about the amount of support they provided for my clients. I look forward to continuing to work with them.

I had a veteran who had hit wall after wall seeking assistance and was without power in the dead of winter in the middle of a huge snowstorm forecasted for the next day. HonorBound was able to help her and went above and beyond to assist in getting her power turned on. This veteran had never had utilities in her name and needed a deposit to even qualify for services and they helped her pay the application fee and the deposit and talked directly to the company to pledge the donation to ensure that the veteran had the power connected within 24 hours. This made a huge difference in the world of a struggling veteran who had been feeling hopeless after 5 years of homelessness she got in to a place just to realize the electric was not included and be without power after 3 weeks of finally having some sort of stability. This gave her hope and restored peace in her life. She cried tears of joy and I am beyond grateful for the assistance provided.

HonorBound is truly a unique program that assists Veterans in situations where emergency financial assistance is necessary due to financial crisis and no informal supports or other available means. As workers in the field, when someone is in need, we often times are limited to the resources available in our communities to try and get Veterans and families connected to help. The specialness about HonorBound, is often times these community resources are limited to rent and utilities. Honorbound offers a flexibility that most programs do not. For example, financial assistance helping with motor vehicle repairs so a Veteran can continue to work, pay their bills, attend priority medical appointments, meet the needs if their children, etc. Honorbound saves the day and offers emergency financial assistance that other programs just do not offer. They have a quick, streamlined process , which helps ease anxieties of worrisome Veterans desperately waiting to hear if they can be helped. I wish there were more programs like Honorbound to be able to serve our Veterans.

Working in this field for 20yrs has been difficult in many ways, however, one of the most difficult is finding assistance to pay for utilities. Most of the agencies, especially at this time of the year, are without funds or have a lengthy process. I was made aware of a Veteran who was in immediate need for assistance, i.e. electricity was going to be turned off; this would have been of devastating results . I turned to Honorbound because they had helped some of my other Veterans in the past. Without fail, the staff was supportive, helpful and even obtained the current balance on the account which had been a difficult process (long story), this was going above and beyond! Sue was amazing, I was able to update the Veteran's Spouse and the bill was paid, without delays, without a lengthy process. Thank you Honorbound for your devotion to helping our Veterans! Sue, thank you for your help! You cannot imagine the stress that was lifted off this family and myself, as a professional in this field. God Bless you all at Honorbound. It was such pleasure working with HonorBound foundation. They were receptive to the outreach and quick with generating the donation. With HonorBound's help one of our Veterans received financial assistance and was able to relocate to their new housing unit. In this Veteran's situation it was especially crucial to get financial assistance as soon as possible as they were fleeing domestic violence with their two very young children. Thankfully to HonorBound, the Veteran is now safely relocated. HonorBound is a non-profit which makes a big difference and no wonder they have been recognized as a top charity each year since 2017.

HonorBound helped me with the repair bill so that I can start looking for jobs again and be able to take my kid to medical appointments. What makes this organization stand out is that they looked at my needs as a veteran in distress. They were my last hope as other veteran organizations were limiting the veterans they would help. To the Staff of HonorBound Foundation,
I would like to let you know how much our homeless program in Dallas appreciates your hard work and commitment to our Veterans here. One of the Veterans with whom I work, had previously attempted suicide and inquired about rental assistance. I provided him with a list of about 6-8 resources to contact for rental assistance as he needed to do the work. He did put in the work (teaching him to fish). He was unable to obtain help, so I pulled a rabbit out of my hat and contacted Honorbound and was immediately assisted so this once homeless Veteran, would not lose his housing. I am so grateful to this Organization and want you to know that your labor of love is certainly not in vain. I very much appreciate your commitment to our Veterans and their families. This is a fantastic organization to have as a "rabbit in your hat!!" Thank you so much for all you do!!

Due to the flexibility of how the funds can be used as well as how quickly claims are processed, I have been able to use this money for security and utility deposits. Most community resources will not allow their funds to be used for this. HonorBound is often my only hope!! I have had the pleasure of working with HonorBound for close to two years now. I can't tell you the number of veterans they were able to help me out with. I work with veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home. When these veterans call me, they are in crisis. Most of the veterans in crisis I have come across have no support system as well.

One of the things that helps is relieving them of financial burdens that are making it difficult for them to get through their current trauma. Recently, Susan from HonorBound paid off a large, overdue gas bill that a veteran could not pay off and they were at risk of having their utilities shut off. I was with them when I told them their bill was paid. The sigh of relief was palpable. It also signaled to the veteran that there is help around them and there is hope in getting through their crisis. Now this veteran is able to use the little money they have to put out the smaller fires they can actually address.

HonorBound is flexible in what expenses they can pay for and how they pay for it, making them very easy to work with. They also work very quickly and communicate clearly and promptly. These are other great aspects of HonorBound's program. I hope HonorBound continues to get the funding they deserve as they are such a benefit to the veteran community.

I work for an organization whose mission is to assist and connect Veterans and their Families with resources that improve their lives. It is my distinct pleasure to write about an organization that plays an integral role in my organization’s overall success in this goal, namely the HonorBound Foundation Inc. I must say, HonorBound is an organization that is beyond reproach in the services and financial assistance they provide. My organization is a local non-profit that finds Veterans and their Families in a number of sad predicaments, in particular financial dire straits. My colleagues and I work with these Veterans on both their short and long term needs by utilizing a wholistic approach in assisting them and almost all if not most, need immediate financial assistance. HonorBound is the go-to organization I turn to and I not only obtain these finances but receive it in a very timely manner as well. Also, to our delight, there is a simple process in obtaining these resources and without any red tape as most other organizations’ process would require.
As a Veteran myself, you could only imagine what it means to have an organization such as this. It’s unfortunate to say but many Veterans are either reluctant and/or embarrassed to ask for assistance and the last thing they need is to receive the run around. Hi I'm posting on behave of my husband Jason, whom is a disabled Army Vet. Our family moved into our forever home last March 2018 and had to have the main water line replaced from the street to our house. Upon getting that fixed we were struggling with an extremely high water bill. My husband had his 7th knee surgery last August and we have been struggling with our high water bill since he was out of work for 3 months. Getting faced with a disconnection notice, Honorbound stepped in to help and paid our high water bill. We are forever grateful for the help that we've received from this organization. From the bottom of our hearts our family thanks you for your support.

Sue Tosto and her team work diligently and quickly to assist veterans and their family in crisis state. They are willing to communicate with the case managers, effectively expediting any application that may have questions or concerns about being approved. Generally, when the foundation has funds and a veteran is eligible, payments are made or sent the next business day. They are amazing and a God-send to our nation's heroes!

HonorBound has been instrumental in assisting many of our clients with short-term financial needs. Without this assistance, these veterans would experience further hardship, to include loss of jobs, housing instability and even homelessness. The HonorBound team is easy to engage, quick to respond, and equally swift in determining if they are able to assist. We appreciate their support of our veterans!

My husband is a 100% disabled Veteran and although he is compensated by the government urgent things still arise where we do not have the ability financially to make extra money to take care of these essential situations. While working on an urgent financial situation with our Veterans Resource Specialist, Jami, she mentioned a wonderful organization called “Honor Bound” that could possibly assist us. She told us what documentation was needed for assistance and helped by beginning and completing that process with Honor Bound. It was just a matter of a few days and assistance was received by paying an electrical bill which resulted in no loss of electricity. I can’t begin to explain what a relief and blessing this was to our family and our Veteran who often feels at a loss to take care of issues normally anyway with his disabilities. They are truly a blessing and have the upmost respect for Veterans always. Thank you again Honor Bound!! What you are doing is so needed in the Veteran community!

To all of those out there who care about veterans:
If you are looking for a highly honorable and helpful foundation to donate to:
Please consider HonorBound Foundation:
In the five years that I have been a Veterans Service Officer for Porter County, IN I have reached out to them for the veterans in need that I deal with on numerous occasions: each time they have come through for them.
One of the best things is that they are able to act so swiftly:
My latest example:
I filled out an application for a veteran who desperately needed some new clothes for interviews while he is out looking for employment.
This morning I find in my work email inbox an email that $300 in Walmart gift cards will be mailed out to him today.
This is Real Help; Real Fast!
HonorBound is truly honorable!!

This veteran has had a lot of trouble finding employment and has had minimal ability to get to job interviews because he did not have a current driver's license. After receiving assistance from the HonorBound foundation this veteran now has the opportunity to obtain employment near his home and also will have more doors open to him going forward. This will, in turn, assist this veteran with maintaining his current housing and deter the possibility of him becoming homeless again. The staff are extremely easy to work with and the turn around receiving financial assistance for my Vets is extremely fast! This is essential when you are working with someone who is having a true financial emergency and needs help quick. To be honest, this is really the only national organization that I can depend on to help the Veterans I work with on a consistent basis. I work for an agency who coordinates resources & care for military connected families. We are grateful for the support and assistance from NVSF. We worked diligently to assist one of our community Veterans negotiate terms to have his electric utility services restored. His family had been without power for 1 week. When our veteran had no where to turn and our options seemed to distant to reach, NVSF was there with help with professionalism unparalleled to any system that I have ever seen. In addition, the way NVSF is set up, agencies are required to exhaust their efforts at seeking support before it is recommended to include NVSF. This way those Veterans who need the help the most have the opportunity at NVSF support. I hope that the nation recognizes this organization for the work that they do and funders continue to support their efforts. Thank you NVSF!

It's as simple as this...you're going to find good and bad reviews on most charities but where the rubber meets the road is about the money. Where does the money go? Over 2/3 goes to fundraising...that's right, partying! They take your hard earned money you graciously give to them and they stay in nice hotels and live it up while only 25% of the money they receive goes to those in need.

So do the math on that... They spend .67 cents to make a quarter to use on our nations veterans. Numbers are based on 2015 tax returns and form 990!

The President makes almost $125k in salary and compensation for an organization that makes less than ten million dollars. Don't be fooled by these people... This is simply welfare for the rich! Take a look at this section of form 990 showing all these expenses...especially professional fund raising!

NVSF paid their car note, they are now back on their feet and he has made all of his medical appointments.

Terrible organization. As a social worker who has referred my homeless and disabled veteran clients as a last resort to this place for financial assistance when our organization cannot help them - not one has ever gotten any help from NVSF despite following all the specifications outlined on the application form. Instead, we've only have nasty communications from the people running NVSF. Stay FAR away, and seek out a BBB-accredited organization to donate to. This place is the worst of the worst scams - only 16 cents on the dollar makes it (if ever) to a veteran in need. Also - their bookkeeper was recently arrested for embezzling $186,000.00 from the organization and the amount could be up to $830,000.00. Needless to say, we will not be referring individuals to this place ever again.

According to their form 990, they received $9,111,243 but the veterans received $1,099,346. So the 88% is spent on overhead and fund raising, and the veteran gets 12%. Do you want your money to go to fundraisers or to the veteran?

I told her that I would keep her number for when I am in dire straights and she said that her charity is not for people to call and get help its for only people that have a social worker call for them. This non profit is a scam. I donated a boat. I was given the standard 500.00 tax deduction form. The next week I was contacted by a friend who saw my boat on craigs list for sale for 1900.00. When I called the number I talked to the man who picked the boat up from my house. His name was Wade. He informed me the boat was sold that day to a man in Minnesota. I asked what he got for it and he said 1900.

So I called the National Veterans Services fund and they confirmed that they sold the boat....for 300.00 dollars. When I asked where the other 1600. had gone they could not explain it to me. I called again to see if they would mail me a updated tax deduction for 1900. They said no. They said they would call me back after looking into it. That was 3 weeks ago.

I have contacted the States Attorney General of Oregon, and the IRS......

DO NOT CONSIDER DONATING TO THIS CHARITY. They do not give much or any of the proceeds to the vets.

I am a veteran who recently requested assistance from NVSF. I have several email communication from the charity in which they directed me to have a social worker contact their representatives on my behalf. After speaking with the social worker (who was covering for another on leave), she told me I needed an application form and other documents. While in her office, the social worker and I searched the NSVF website for said "application form". I was asked to see if I could "track down" the form on my own. I contacted NVSF and spoke to Cindy, who after hearing my name had an very negative attitude towards me. I ignored her bad attitude and asked for the application form. She then raised her voice and kept stating on the top of the voice that she had worked with my social worker for years and there was NO WAY she would have told me to get an application form from NVSF. I kept trying to explain to her that the social worker was in a different office and was unable to get a copy of the form for the next two weeks she was out of her office. I was NEVER given the chance to say anything during the exchange after which the NVSF representative (CINDY) hung up the phone. I was in shock that any veteran's charity would treat me (a veteran) with such distaste. I contacted my social worker (Sheila Harris, Atlanta VA Medical Ctr) who apologized to me for Cindy's unprofessional behavior. She stated that she would contact Cindy and explain to her the reason she did NOT have the form needed. I told Sheila that that would be unnecessary as I did not get the impression that this charity was willing to help me after the telephone contact. Ms. Harris went on to state that NVSF had denied EVERY veteran she had referred to NVSF in the last 4-6 months. If you look at thew NVSF website, you will see that every page of their site has a DONATE button. There is NOT ONE page on their site that shows a veteran to GET HELP. It is my belief that this charity, like so many others out there, are in the business of getting funds, but NO INTENTION of giving any help to the VETERAN. I tried getting information on NVSF through The Better Business Bureau and noted that the NVSF refused to provide them with any information. Obviously, this charity has a lot to hide. For all the individuals who have given monies to this charity, you should know that the money donated is going to the charity, its representatives and their families and not to any needy veteran. I hope other veteran's who have had contact with NVSF will join me in adding reviews so that everyone will be weary of donating to an obvious CON charity.

This is more likely a money making project for the "fund raisers" since way to much money goes to fund raising expenses. This charity is too inefficient in delivering services to veterans. Their mail solicitation does not correlate with their on-line organization goals. Giving to this corporation is a waste of your money and when they trick people into giving to them they take from legitimate charities who could truly help veterans. One star is too high a rating for this group. Shame on them!
