Causes: Military & Veterans Organizations, Veterans
Mission: The organization's mission is to arrange and provide no cost transportation of WWII Veterans, Korea War Veterans, and Vietnam War Veterans to Washington, DC to visit their memorials.
Target demographics: Veterans who served in WWII, Korea War and Vietnam War.
Geographic areas served: the Quad Cities, in a 75-mile radius of the Quad City International Airport.
Programs: We have successfully completed 50 flights for WWII, Korea War and Vietnam Veterans to visit Washington DC since November 1, 2008, at no cost to the Veterans. The purpose of the visits has been to view the memorials built as tributes to our Veterans. Many of these Veterans are older with physical limitations. We have guardians accompany the Veterans, approximately 60 on each flight. These guardians are volunteers and are not paid for their services. We completed 4 flights in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a postponement of all Honor Flights. As of February 2021, we have had approximately 4,700 veterans in total and 2,800 guardians (volunteers) in total on the 50 flights. When pandemic restrictions are lifted, we anticipate continuing to honor our Veterans from WWII, Korea War and Vietnam in 2021 and future years. As long as we continue to receive generous donations to cover the necessary flight expenses, we will be able to maintain this service to our veterans.
