One morning in 1987, I walked across a field to a neighbors house. Even though I knew they were predjudiced against our family, I knocked on their door asking for help. We looked in the phonebook for help in my situation and couldn't find anything. You see, my parents sheltered me and the only way out was to marry. My parents threatened me if I ever tried to leave. Finally, the neighbors called the police who then contacted Home Safe. I was very frightened because this was the very first time being in the world by myself. I was 27 years old. The staff was really nice and caring to me and let me stay there for 3 months! People came and went. I met some friends. The staff talked to me and I began to let my guard down. They told me it was ok to go shopping, skating and visting of members of my family. It was a wonderful feeling. If it wasn't for them, I don't know where I would have ended up. Congratulations Home Safe for caring for us in such a wonderful way!
