This nonprofit is doing amazing things for cats!! I brought two cats there from a house that was abandoned behind my apartment building. The owner was happy to take the two cats and they were in rough shape. I got to tour the facilities and I almost cried upon seeing the outside area for the cats, knowing that this place was going to give the two cats I found a great home until they are adopted made me so so happy! I am so grateful to homeless to home for taking the cats and for what they are doing for all cats!
I recently had the opportunity to tour their wonderful facility in Marion, Ohio. I had no idea that anyone, anywhere was doing so much to aid our homeless feline friends as Homeless to Home. I understand why, but not necessarily how the staff and volunteers are able to care for so many homeless cats; do it so well and without any government support. I didn't see a single cat or cage that was dirty, without fresh, clean water and litter. Nor did I notice any cats that looked like they were underfed. I wish that every cat owner could understand the consequences having their pets spayed or neutered, especially cats that are allowed outdoors.
Thank you again for all that you are doing for cats at Homeless to Home.
Readers, please be advised that the review by Jennifer Y is an ongoing attack to discredit the work of this organization. She previously tried posting these comments claiming to be a volunteer, which has never been the case; therefore anything she comments would naturally be questionable. GreatNonprofits removed that review, obviously as a violation of their policy. We believe intelligent, thinking people would see through her review in light of being poorly written and the accusations therein, compared to our hundreds of positive reviews elsewhere. Her comments are based on speculation, assumption, absolutely void of facts, and a vendetta against Homeless to Home. We struggle to find a true statement in the entire review. It is impossible for her to speak to anything concerning this organization because she is not a part of this organization and never has been. She has no knowledge of policies, percentages, numbers, animals in shelter or adopted. The question is why is this organization the target of her witch hunt? She does not attack the local humane society and many others that do not do TNR and that do euthanize. This organization has never claimed not to euthanize. We challenge Jennifer to find that claim made by HTH. We receive many animals, mostly cats, turned away by other shelters that are damaged physically and psychologically as in abuse, depression, aggression, etc. When issues cannot be resolved reasonably, humane euthanasia is the humane answer. Euthanasia is never taken lightly or done indiscriminately. We go to great lengths working nearly around the clock to find answers for each animal. Why would she carelessly assume our fosters are limited to this city? Cages are not "stacked to the ceiling". There are two levels in some places. We are complimented everyday on our cleanliness and low odor. That is echoed many times in our Google reviews. Every cat in the intake area, once acclimated, is out of their cages everyday for hours; in fact they put themselves back if their gates are open. The Sanctuary residents have 24 hour access of the indoor-outdoor totally enclosed acre. The entire grounds and the animals are protected by a high tech security surveillance system. But Jennifer could not know any of this because she is not part of this organization. Several visitors who had previously talked to Jennifer tell us emphatically after touring the facility she lied to them. Why? Is she stalking us, counting cars in and out, calling us a clinic which we are not (although we do have those future plans). We have indeed expanded. We spend five to eight hours every single day educating. The current adoption fee of $100 for cats does not cover half of the vetting and what we provide for each animal. But Jennifer would not know that since she is not a part, and never has been a part of this organization. So why the constant attacks and the witch hunt despite having seen differently and been told differently? Her comments at this point are slander and malicious. The real tragedy is she is personally causing the suffering of animals she steers away from one of the only places that will accept them. Her time would be better served doing the work she thinks we are not doing.
This organization has no focus on taking preventative measure to cut down on the pet population. They do not support T-N-R, any spay or neuter low cost clinic or resources nor do they do public outreach at events to educate people. They claim they never turn away animals yet they say they do not euthanize. Doesn't take rocket science to figure it out. I am not a volunteer for homeless to home. I have via their request helped an elderly couple trap feral cats and also done so on my own and then taken them to their Sanctuary believing that they would get to stay in the "feral cat" enclosure outside, that was a lie. I have seen inside and was barely able to breath without throwing up. Cages stacked upon cages is no quality of life for a cat or kittens. Yes, a small percentage of them who are well behaved and get along with other cats are allowed out upon occasion to roam the outside area, but it's not possible to let most of them. I had taken more than 20 cats there but this was before I heard from dozens of people their input of personal things that happened that were not in line with what a sanctuary should be doing. I didn't believe it. I even stuck up for H2H for about a year and got mad when others would say anything bad about them but through my own experiences doing T-N-R and dealing with them I finally came to believe that those people were telling me the truth. There are numerous organizations in Columbus and surrounding areas and they ALL talk about H2H and how bad it is. Go stand out there in front of their clinic for a day and count the # of animals that come in then count the # that are adopted. Has the building grown in size over the years? No it hasn't. So where are these hundreds of cats hiding? This is not a big city where it's easy to get hundreds of fosters and even so fosters only watch the kittens until they are full grown. At over $100 to adopt how many people do you know who are going to pay for a cat coming from a shelter? Think about it.
My landlord changed our pet policy and demanded all cats be indoor only. I've had my cat 7-8 yrs and he was always an indoor/outdoor cat, but I was trying to train him to stay inside. He ran out on me has I was walking in from work. Homless to Home Cat Sanctuary was hired by my landlord to come and round up all outdoor cats. I have not seen my little buddy since. He was a stray at the warehouse I work at and came home with me one day. I have reached out Homeless to Homes to get him back with little response. With the cat population out of control, here I am a loving owner and I can't even get my cat back
This is by far my favorite animal rescue center! Janine and her volunteers are very professional and knowledgeable about rescuing and caring for these animals. She doesn’t turn any animal away. I’ve been so impressed with this organization for quite a few years now! Janine and her wonderful volunteers work tirelessly and passionately to ensure animals are safe, secure and to place them in very good homes. I wish this place could be a model for all others shelters to aspire too! I know there are a lot of animal rescue organizations and I really appreciate them too because I’m sure they are working very hard too! However, this is the only shelter that I would trust and feel at peace with my animals! They are very clean, organized and I feel the cats are healthy and happy! This is a wonderful place to adopt your next cat from! Thanks for everything that you do Janine and your amazing staff and volunteers!
This is a unbelievable place for cats and kittens. They have it set up really nice and the outside area is really cool. I had a mother cat and kittens show up at my house . I could not keep them as I have 3 cats now. I wanted to take them to a no kill shelter and there was none in my area taking any animals so I was told about this spot and after I seen it I knew the kittens and momma cat would be taken care of. I want to say thanks and hope I can stay informed about Ally Cat the momma Lokie the black long hair kitten and Spot the black kitten with the white spot on the chest.
