I had the honor of volunteering with Dr. Jay Grossman through the "Homeless Not Toothless" program, providing dental care to veterans in need. Dr. Grossman’s compassion, leadership, and dedication to underserved communities were truly inspiring. He created a welcoming and professional environment where every volunteer felt valued and every patient treated with dignity. His commitment to giving back through dentistry left a lasting impact on me. Working alongside him deepened my understanding of the importance of access to care and strengthened my passion for service. It was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful initiative.

I had the chance to volunteer with Dr. Grossman through Homeless Not Toothless, and it was genuinely eye-opening. As someone currently serving in the military, it hit me hard to see how many veterans are going without basic dental care. One Navy vet I met had served multiple tours but had lost all his teeth and couldn’t afford dentures—he was forced to chew with his gums. It was heartbreaking to see someone who gave so much end up falling through the cracks like that. I’m really grateful I could be part of something that helped him, even in a small way.

As an UCLA student, I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Grossman at Homeless not Toothless and it was a great experience. All that people who need dental work but sometimes don't have enough resources can get a good treatment and we can see on their faces how grateful and happy they feel. That's what dentistry is about. Helping people getting back their smiles. Good job Dr. Grossman and it was a great pleasure working with you.

As a dental student volunteering through Homeless Not Toothless, I had the immense privilege of working under Dr. Grossman. It was an incredibly fulfilling and touching experience being able to work on our homeless veterans and women who have been victims of domestic abuse. I left each day thinking about the smiles on our patients' faces knowing that they had providers who had given them the time and care. I will never forget the tears of joy from a patient who finally received a new set of dentures, thanking us for the ability to smile and eat once more.

Volunteering at Homeless Not Toothless during my time at UCLA dental school was profoundly rewarding. Dr. Grossman is not only a remarkable provider but a unique human being. Spent my last rotation in dental school here at HNT. We were able to serve many veterans and homeless individuals and provide them with low cost dental care; it was an amazing experience to serve these individuals. Many people are generally scared of the dentist. Many are also very fearful of the costs associated with getting quality dental work. Through HNT, we were able to provide quality dental work at a reduced cost. It was amazing to see the results and see these patients who've had very hard lives get the care they deserve, one patient remarked that it was "his best experience ever" with a dentist.

Fulfilling my last UCLA rotation at HNT, I have been through a couple rounds of learning at various dental practices. HNT greatly differed from my previous rotations by emphasizing the importance of public service, teaching me that we chose this path ultimately to help others. I still remember all of my patients because the work that's performed at this clinic has had such an impact on each individual patient in need, and subsequently left a profoundly gratifying memory in me. Wouldn't think twice to go back and do more work there, Dr. Grossman is just awesome in every way! There should be more dentists like him that are trying to make a better change in this world.

I had the privilege of working at Homeless not toothless under a rotation for UCLA. During my time there, we were able to offer help to our veterans, underprivileged families, and survivors of abuse.
I extracted teeth for a woman who had undergone violent domestic abuse. Her teeth reached the point of extraction because she had experienced so much physical trauma. We extracted all her teeth for her and gave her immediate new dentures. The smile on her face, new teeth, and tears in her eyes said it all.
Rarely in life, do we come across such moments where we can experience the difference we made in someone's life in real-time. I am glad I got to be at HNT to experience one of these moments.
