I've been a member of Hive13 for about a year and a half, and it's a great organization. "The Hive" provides project space, tools, and expertise that would be very difficult to access on my own. It also has a friendly, open atmosphere and has been a great place to make friends.
As a member I see myself as both a volunteer and a beneficiary of the organization. I've received help and advice in some areas, and given it in others. I get to use specialized equipment such as the laser-cutter and do my part to keep the space clean and organized.
Hive13 also provides service to the community outside just its membership. Non-members can show up on open nights to learn a new technique, use equipment, or hear one of the special presentations we advertise on the website. We're also involved in community events such as the Mini Maker Faire (October 2013) where Hive13 will be hosting a learn-to-solder station.
