Mission: Historic Ithaca acts to preserve and sustain the legacy of the built environment in Tompkins County and the Finger Lakes region.
Results: Since 1966, Historic Ithaca has saved several local landmarks from demolition. We have worked with the City of Ithaca to establish and expand historic districts within the city. Our classes and hands-on workshops empower homeowners to be good stewards of older and historic homes and neighborhoods. Our architectural salvage warehouse, founded in 1991, has kept thousands of tons of reusable material out of the landfill and provides a vital resource for homeowners and contractors.
Target demographics: We believe that historic preservation is valuable to all members of our community and we strive to make preservation accessible to underrepresented and underserved groups.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Historic Ithaca has over 250 active supporters. Classes, workshops, tours, and special events in 2010 were attended by over 600 people. Our architectural salvage warehouse receives over 8,000 customer visits per year.
