Mission: The hispanic foundation of silicon valley is a public foundation dedicated to inspiring community philanthropy and engaging people to invest in the educational achievement, leadership development, research, and convening and engaging the hispanic community to improve the quality of life for latinos and the silicon valley region.
Programs: Convening & engagingthe nuestro futuro community engagement initiative and the resulting "voices of change" report is the most comprehensive survey to date to capture the unsolicited voices of silicon valley latinos. The way the organization accomplished this goal was through the involvement of the latino community. Overall, more than 2,200 individuals participated in the nuestro futuro initiative. The majority of participants were immigrants, women, and low-income individuals with less than a high school education. In addition, most of the respondents had never been asked to give their input on quality of life issues before the survey. About 2,200 people benefited from this program.
educationthe organization addresses the latino student achievement gap. It pursues partnerships with other foundations and corporations, as well as business, education, and community leaders to address the low enrollment and graduation rates of latino students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (stem). Projects include the elevate [math] and elevate [math] plus. About 1,400 people benefited from this program. The parent education academy (pea) program is directed toward helping hispanic parents learn skills to guide and mentor their children to achieve academic success specifically graduation from both high school and college. This program is offered to complement hfsv's stem programs for middle school students to excel in math and get on the track to college. About 350 people benefited from this program.
leadershipthe organization develops latino nonprofit leaders. The organization's latino board leadership academy is a comprehensive program designed to recruit and train professional latinos to serve as potential board members in non-profit organizations that best match their personal interests. About 35 people benefited from this program.
kids visionthe organization serves as a fiscal sponsor for kids' vision, an organization dedicated to providing math-entrepreneurial after school courses for 3rd to 5th graders. Hispanic foundation will serve as a fiscal agent for kids' vision, accepting grants on their behalf, until which time kids' vision incorporates and receives a tax exempt status.
