Programs: Hill county paw pals continues to become established as an integral aspect of the community. A total of 68 dogs and 26 cats were adopted in 2016. Volunteers have expanded the network of pet rescue contacts and have been able to reduce the euthanasia rate at the hillsboro city impoundment facility by 600% through transfers to no-kill shelters or direct adoption. A total of 373 dogs moved through the facility. Those not adopted were transferred to other no-kill rescue groups. We have established working relationships with no kill shelters or foster-based groups in the metroplex, colorado, and even vermont. A partnership continues with texas coalition for animal protection that offers opportunity for low cost sterilizations and vaccinations to the community. During 2016, 492 dogs and cats were sterilized and again the monthly rabies vaccinations were over 100/month. The facility contiues to serve as a beacon for pet welfare in the community. There is also an opportunity at the hill county paw pals facility for individuals to perform community service requirementes and many are able to fulfill their hours in this manner.
