In January 2006 when I first met Sri Kanth, I was astonished that despite the disability that he and his two siblings share, their family had already set up one of Sri Lanka's first rural telecenters in remote Koslanda and were managing it rather successfully. He told me of the remarkably high incidence of various types of disabilities in the Hill Country, and of his determination to help poor families living with disabilities. That was when I first pledged my technical support and proposed that they formalize their efforts by creating a local NGO, which Sri Kanth called the Hill Country Disability Group. The more then four year since then have been a long road with plenty of disappointments and successes. But his energy and determination have paid off and now we are a network of volunteers working in Sri Lanka, Germany, the UK, Canada and the USA to transform the lives of dozens of impoverished families, helping them to overcome isolation, poverty, malnutrition and lack of schooling and livelihood opportunities. Our volunteers know very well how much their efforts have been bringing smiles to the faces of handicapped children and youth and their families, because almost every one of them has at one time or another traveled to distant Koslanda to see and serve for themselves...

HCDG is a group that performed by a group of people who genuine desire to help out individuals and families with desability, been volunteered with them for sometime I learnt that they have tru values and they help directly to people. And the best part is the sponser will have direct connection with the family or the kid sponsering so they could communicate and get to know each other. But HCDG still at the very much pliminary stage and this group need lots of help to develop so I recomend everyone who wish to helkp out a poor disable kid in Sri Lanka would join with HCDG.
