Mickey was rescued from near a reservation, starving, and dragging a severely injured back leg, by a dedicated volunteers from NAASR (Northern Arizona Animal Search & Rescue). Mickey was taken to High Country Humane, where Dr. Carley Bennett made the difficult decision, that Mickey needed that leg removed due to the pain and risk of infection, asap. Ideally, he needed his starving body restored to normal, but there was no time. There were many prayers the evening before, that this baby’s body could handle this amputation. He did indeed survive the surgery. That’s where I stepped in to foster Mickey, inexperienced at fostering and tending to injured animals. I look back now and had no clue what to do or expect? But, it was one of the most rewarding decisions I ever made. Today Mickey brings love and joy to everyone he meets! As a foster fail, I am honored to share my life with Mickey. Faith & love conquers all and Mickey proves this on a daily basis. Thank you High Country Humane & NAASR for giving me this rewarding opportunity! I encourage others to step out of your comfort zone and foster. These are before & after photos of sweet Mickey.
We adopted out sweet Winnie last summer and couldn't have been happier with the process, staff and volunteers. Now, we are fosters and donate when possible.
I adopted Lilly from High Country Humane in 2012 (Second Chance at that time). I appreciated the description they had posted about her personality, and I knew she was the right fit for me. We have been cuddle buddies every since, and she is now 12 years old.
we had a small issue with Polar Bear and she got alot bigger which is alright,
she's very loving and i just love her.For a dog who didn't like men,she loves my son and my husband ! That's wonderful for us

We found our precious Bodhi (shar-pei, shepherd mix) at HCH when it was 2nd Chance (no kill shelter) back in 2011 July.
We are so grateful that 2nd Chance/HCH saved his life so we could have a wonderful 7 years with our precious Bodhi who was remarkable in his absolutely loving and calm way of being (never barked at other furry ones on our walks - instead would just give them a loving look).
2nd Chance becoming HCH vs just getting dissolved has continued to save so many precious furry lives PLUS we see that HCH is doing so much - in so many regards - for the furry ones THANK YOU!
We continue to support HCH annually and encourage others to do that as well so we can continue to bring compassionate are to our furry ones.

We got to know High Country at an adoption event. They deal with some tough issues with animals. It is very hard to see some of the things that animals go through. Over the years we have tried to support High Country as they continue to help animals in need. If you can help please do, they need and appreciate any assistance you can offer. Monetarily, on a volunteer basis or anyway you can.
High Country Humane is doing the Lord's work. They've greatly helped me as I've taken care of a herd of fixed feral cats for decades.
I adopted my puppy formally known as Alice, renamed Eden from High Country Humane! She has changed my life eternally and I'm so grateful. They helped me start out with providing food and a coupon book for PetSmart to help with the cost of adopting an animal.
We adopted our kitties there, formerly Bolt and Lightning, but renamed Willie and Wyangus! They were one year old at the time, but now they are three years old! They make our lives such fun!! I tried to upload a photo, but it didn't work!!
High Country Humane not only gave me my boy Dougie, but they made sure he had the best outcome of a normal life as a puppy as possible! Dr Bennett and the medical team amputated Dougie's leg due to severe fractures in his hip.
After adopting Dougie, I decided to apply to work with High Country Humane as I was new to the area. I have ZERO regrets! All the staff is wonderful! The amount of support from the community and our Foster families is unmeasurable! I am so happy to have found High Country Humane and am grateful to be a part of helping the animals in need within Coconino County. I will forever be grateful to this Nonprofit Organization.
