I was moving from Mrs Wilson’s halfway house to transitional living, getting back on my feet after 11 months. The Herren Project assisted in providing not just financial assistance in my transition to alleviate some of the burden of worry, they provided a peer recovery coach as well. Their interest in not just providing for my physical well being but also my mental well-being , let me know the Herren Project understands the critical importance of both in early recovery. I have continued on this beautiful and sometimes heart wrenching journey of discovery and sobriety. Grateful I accepted this gift that was so freely given. Thank you!!!!

Chris Herren came in 2018 and spoke to the students at our local high school where my daughter was attending at the time. He visited not long after we lost my son, Matthew, to the disease. Chris met solely with my daughter that day and embraced her. He shared his story of his struggles with addiction so that she could better understand what it was like for her brother to be addicted. I believe he touched her heart in a way that allowed her to start understanding that she wasn’t responsible for her brother’s death and that even through all the drugs she was loved unconditionally by him. Chris’s story is extremely powerful and should be heard by every young person. He is a great example for everyone. It shows that even though he was a great athlete he was not invincible and that drugs can effect all walks of life! He also is an excellent example that recovery is possible! So grateful for the Herren Project and all that they do. The picture is of Chris and my daughter that was taken at the school in 2018 when he visited.

As someone with loved ones who struggle with substance disorder, I was excited to be able to join the Herren Project team in the role of Prevention Education Specialist. In my time here, I have received the highest level of support not only in my professional role, but more importantly, my personal life as I navigate the ups and downs that come with loving someone who struggles with the disease of substance disorder. I consider myself lucky to be a part of the Herren Project Family!

Almost 3 years ago, suffering a near fatal relapse, Herren Project offered me the gift of recovery by awarding me a scholarship to treatment and sober living. Along with this scholarship, I was assigned a Recovery Coach who guided and helped me navigate those early days into my recovery journey. Over a thousand miles from home, my coach gave me exactly what I needed. He was a friend and companion, an ally and confidant, a motivator and cheerleader. He was a role model and mentor but not hesitant to be a truth teller when I needed it.
When I returned home, Herren Project was still there to support me in my recovery through their Alumni program and online support groups which I in turn started to host. Herren Project became my recovery community and my family. To this day, I still keep in regular contact with my coach who I now consider a brother.
For all this, I will forever be grateful. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Dimitrios Bakes

The Herren Project does an incredible job providing much needed recovery support to individuals and famiies impatced by addiction. I ran the NYC marathon with the Herren Project in 2021 and the night before the race, the whole team gathered in NYC and each person on the team got to say why they were running and fundraising for The Herren Project. Some of the runners had lost people close to them due to fatal overdoses, some were people in longterm recovery, and some were family members supporting a loved one. There were tears and goosebumps and heads nodding as we all went around the circle and talked about what The Herren Project meant to each of us. I will never forget that experience. It was even more profound than running the actual race. The Herren Project provided us all with a community of support even as we logged many hours of solitary running as we trained for the marathon. The Herren Project gives people hope and community and purpose. Thank you to everyone at The Herren Project for the incredible work you do! This organization is truly a gift!

Hello my name is Aubrey Wilsey. I reached out to the herren project a little over 4 years ago. During that time I was getting ready to complete treatment and needed help with funding for a recovery house. Herren project did not hesitate to help me, they awarded me with a scholarship for funding and a recovery coach. I was very grateful to receive this, without this I would have left treatment and probably went back to using. I took full advantage of my time at my recovery house and with my recovery coach. I am proud to say now I am over four and a half years clean and sober and I currently work as a recovery coach for the Herren project. I have full custody of 3 of my children I am active in my recovery and proud to say I am a father and an asset to my community today. Thank you herren project I appreciate you!!!!

This incredible organization makes such a powerful impact on high school students across the nation, when kids are at their most vulnerable age for caving to peer pressure. Through the Herren Project Clubs, thank you for showing students the dangers of addiction and for helping them choose to live substance free lives, while also focusing on their mental health.

The Herren Project is an amazing organization that focuses on healing from addiction. Founders Chris and Heather Herren and their caring staff have helped so many troubled people get back on track after losing their way because of addiction to drugs or alcohol.

They have also lent a helping hand to the family members who feel helpless as they struggle with the agony of seeing their loved ones fall. Addiction has many victims, young and old. The Herren Project is making a difference with prevention, treatment and best of all healing.

A wonderful part of their program is that there is so much online and on zoom for those who need help or information. From support groups to educational videos and conversations, The Herren Project is changing lives and making an impact in so many positive ways.

Herren Project is the organization that we need to help our children BEFORE addiction takes over. In my school, we use the activities and message of the Herren Project to help students make wise, informed choices to live their best lives. When I see how many kids are affected by substance use disorder, I realize just how important the journey with Herren Project is.

Herren Project 'far exceeds expectations,' indeed. I've worked with Herren Project for 7 years, so I've seen it from the inside out. And the more I see, the more I know, the more grateful I am, simply for the work. Herren Project staff and volunteers meet people where they are growing good, wherever they are.

Herren Project is really making a positive difference. I honestly know of no other organization who does what they do, and their work is more needed and relevant than ever before. From helping people find the APPROPRIATE treatment, to supporting the family, to prevention and education, they excel at every level. I'm most impressed with their transparency and integrity in an industry that sorely needs both. The bottom line is, I trust them, and all who they collaborate with, to make a meaningful impact with every dollar donated.

The first I learned of Chris’ story was when I worked in a high school and the health teacher showed the class “Unguarded”. It was the first time I realized that an addict lives in their own living hell and is a victim of this horrible disease. I shared my thoughts with a number of people who had loved ones suffering addiction. I felt it was important that people feel compassion for those suffering from addiction as opposed to only anger. “Unguarded” communicates to the viewer, the emotional torment that addiction has on an addict and the ‘inner war’ that an addict has with him/herself. I also was fortunate enough to hear Chris speak to an audience of parents and families and then separately to high school students. His messages and guidance were spot on. He shared his own emotions and that addiction is a disease of which needs to be treated both physically and emotionally. Years later, a very special person in my life had the courage to become a guest at Herren. In his years struggling and suffering with addiction, he was never understood, supported and guided the way he was at Herren Wellness. I believe that Herren Wellness should be voted as one of the best non-profits in the US. Thank you to all of the guests, alumni and coaches at Herren Wellness. You have brought peace and happiness back to our family.

The Herren Project along with the Corvino Foundation afforded me the opportunity to move into transitional housing by providing me a scholarship. They provided funding as well as recovery coaching support. Asking for help and accepting it requires a lot of courage and humility. Their generosity to help alleviate some of those expenses as well as support in my recovery at the same time was invaluable. A testament to helping the whole wellbeing of an individual.

With gratitude,

Kristi O’Connor

When i was down and out, my husband called Herren, within minutes he received a personal call back from Chris. He was helpful immediately. He made room for me at Herren House, the next day, and I began my recovery. The staff was so helpful for my entire stay, for myself and my family. The family meetings were extremely helpful.

Thank you Herren for saving my life and my family!

Like so many, I have experienced the destruction the disease of addiction can cause to individuals and their families. My son has been suffering for more than a decade. Without the help of the Herren Project he and I would be lost. The Herren Project has never given up on either one of us. Through treatment navigation and family support services they have changed our lives. We are forever grateful.

I've been a supporter of Herren Project and its vision of hope since 2017. In those years, I have seen the lives of people afflicted and/or affected by substance abuse transform in the most positive ways. Their efforts to reduce the stigma by changing the conversation when it comes to discussions about addiction are inspiring.

When I called the Herren Project I was desperately seeking help for a friend with serious addiction issues. The response was immediate, professional, compassionate and comprehensive. The staff at Herren helped us find solutions and have showed ongoing concern and true desire to see my friend take the steps needed in order to move through the recovery process. They are incredibly organized and have provided every tool and resource to encourage success.

In addition, the staff showed a great concern for me, someone affected by the addiction of a dear friend. Their webpage has a huge amount of information and links to additional information, online meetings, and family support and counseling, all to better understand addiction and recovery. I am also incredibly impressed with their outreach programs to youth, seeking to prevent addiction in the first place.

I am hugely grateful to the Herren Project!
