Heroes for Children is unique in its mission because it provides almost immediate financial assistance to families that have a child battling cancer. We work closely with social workers to identify families of significant need and work to get them the resources they need. We also have programs to supply laptops to children so they can keep up with school work while they are in treatment. We are one of the only organizations that provides funeral assistance to families to help them with the financial burdens of a funeral, among all of the other challenges they are facing. Our social programs provide families with opportunities to have some fun and feel supported by our community and we continue to invite our Heroes families for events even after their child has finished their treatments. Once a Heroes family, always a Heroes family. Please consider supporting our amazing mission!

one of the best organizations I've been a part of from a volunteer perspective. I am passionate about philanthropy, and Heroes mission is exceptional, as are the people involved. David Hancock, the CEO, is a rockstar! His whole team follows suit....

12 years ago our 15 year daughter was diagnosed with cancer. It was the most difficult time of our lives but we knew we had to stay mentally strong as we fought this disease. One way for her to stay strong was to stay connected to her friends and participate in school which she loved. We only had one computer in our house at that time and then one day Heroes for Children showed up at her hospital room with a laptop through their Laptops for Love Program. They were such a blessing and we could not have been more thankful for Heroes helping her stay connected. We still have that laptop today so we never forget and we are happy to have been able to give back over the years since.

No meaningful contributions made to kids with cancer by this bunch. Should be called heroes for staff.

I took a look at the financials for the heroes for children charity. And, it’s not impressive. Should be called Hero’s for Staff not Hero’s for Children. $500 per family is not going to make a difference to a family with a kid with cancer. More of a fundraising strategy and staff justification than meaningful help. Donors are way better off just picking a couple of needy families and donating directly to them. You can also see on charitywatch.com, they have lost their “Give with confidence” status, in 4 of the past seven years.

In 2020, only $.22 out of every dollar raised made it into a family’s pocketbook. Much less than that if you back out the $102,000 PPP loan received that was booked as a charitable contribution. In a good year 2019, it was only $.32 on average for each dollar raised.

Of the almost $200,000 of PPP loans taken in 2020 It looks like they put $90,000 in their pockets as an increase in compensation. Not sure how this $200,000 saved jobs. Look at the year over year staff salaries and it’s pretty clear. There’s many questionable things when you look at their financial statements and staff size. The $500,000 in personnel and benefits makes me wonder about nepotism and ask why there are so few fundraising campaigns. Don’t take my word for it, all their financial statements are online on their website. All you gotta do is pull em down and study them.

I am happy to adjust my rating and review based on owners response.
