Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Buddhism, Religion

Mission: Hermitage Heart was founded as a Zen training and service organization in 2004. Hermitage Heart supports those seeking to develop resilience and depth in solitude and in commitment to a world undergoing major challenge. With wisdom and compassion at center, those associated with Hermitage Heart also have an appreciation for art and language as service. Hermitage Heart provides teaching through lectures, publications, retreats, social media, performances, liturgies, private meetings, long-term training courses: all devoted to the human capacity to awaken. Supporting artists in their spiritual life, and bringing art effectively to cultural and social change movements is a vital part of Hermitage Heart's work, as is lifting up the history, present work and future possibilities of women as a spiritual force. The current social action project of Hermitage Heart's Bodies of Water School (BOWS) is the Water Mala, which helps create and support awareness of the global water crisis.

For everyone from seekers to seasoned Zen practitioners. Hermitage Heart and teacher Bonnie Myotai Treace open many gates--meditation, arts, activism--to understanding and transformation. Even after a long absence I felt welcomed wholeheartedly.
