Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Developmentally Disabled Centers, Disabilities, Human Services

Mission: At heritage christian services, people come first. Hcs is a thriving human services agency that serves nearly 2,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the greater rochester and buffalo areas by providing meaningful introductions and offering experiences that assist others in navigating and achieving what matters most to them. It has received a compass designation by the office for people with developmental disabilities for being one of new york state's top service providers to people with special needs and earned national accreditation from the council on quality and leadership.

Programs: Residential services - close to 400 people live in community-based certified homes operated by heritage christian services, where they are supported 24 hours a day by a compassionate, highly trained staff. Agency nurses are also available around the clock, and an hcs staff member schedules and attends all medical appointments to ensure proper communication and to follow up on any medical concerns. Hcs believes in supporting the whole person - body, mind and spirit - and offers opportunities for people to grow in all of those areas. The agency welcomes people of all faiths and makes sure people have the opportunity to attend places of worship, volunteer for causes they believe in and become part of the larger community.

day habilitation - hcs day programs offer people the chance to spend their days learning new skills and sharing their talents, like offering tours to school children at springdale farm or delivering meals to the elderly. Instead of busy work, participants are involved in the community. They are developing skills and enjoying some recreational time. Nearly 400 people are serviced.

service coordination - working with a service coordinator is typically a starting point that helps individuals and their families navigate the sometimes confusing path to obtaining services through medicaid and other funding sources. The service coordinator meets with the individual once a month to assess progress and with the family every six months to address any questions or concerns. In 2014, the service coordination department served more than 1,000 individuals.

I have a son served by Heritage Christian Services. A great agency with loving care and professional approach to service for those with disabilities.

My son has always been treated with respect by everyone who has worked with him at Heritage. They see the ability not the disability. I feel privileged and blessed to be part of this agency.

Having a great deal of experience with Heritage Christian Services as a retiree, volunteer and most importantly as a parent of three children who live in their homes, I am always impressed by the commitment of the administration and staff. They go above and beyond in demonstrating the importance of providing not just the basics of support to my children and other individuals in their care but making sure that each and everyone experiences true Christian love at its best. It is a joy and blessing to be a part of this wonderful organization.

Heritage Christian Services, an agency serving the needs of people living with intellectual and developmental challenges, is exceptional in its commitment to provide those they serve with an array of supports and services, enabling them to live independently and successfully in their community within the scope of their abilities. Our daughter has been blessed to have lived in two of the many residences they administer, and her growth in independence and self-esteem is directly correlated to their devotion to excellence in service. They are one of only 20 non-profit providers of ID/DD services in New York State awarded Compass status for their level of oversight by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. Their creativity is exemplified in the ways they constantly think "out of the box" when it comes to accomplishing the impossible. All that being said, I can't stress enough Heritage's sense of family that gathers this large group of residents, their families, staff, and administrators together in mutual support. We have all been blessed by the courage, initiative, and determination of the Founding Families...without them there would be no Heritage Christian Services!
