I’ve been part of a pure breed rescue group for 30+ years, but when I started communicating with the HCHS about Rose I was immediately impressed! The lightening quick responses, the level of transparency, along with the professionalism & friendliness of the director & staff made the adoption process stress free! Truly an amazing organization!
A very dedicated group of volunteers helping to rescue, rehab and rehome dogs and cats in Henry County.

What a loyal and caring group of volunteers keep this small nonprofit going year after year! Their dedication and professionalism in a geographic area where animal neglect, abuse and overpopulation is rampant is amazing. I am honored to be a part of this organization as a board member.
So happy to have found Henry County Humane Society! The lovely people who dedicate their time helping the pets in need are truly amazing at what they do. Henry County Humane Society genuinely cares about the best overall well-being of the animals. It was truly outstanding to have witnessed the level of care the facility takes into consideration when it comes to rehabilitating the animals and selecting the perfect forever homes for the pets.
I will forever grateful to the staff at Henry County Humane Society for rescuing and caring for my baby girl, Zola, who I recently adopted through HCHS. Thank you!
I rescued an adorable Shih Tzu mix that rescued me! It was love at first site. This was a great experience to say the least! Susan absolutely loves these animals and MAKES SURE they will be placed in a loving homes. She educated me on some best practices, provided great resources and advice. Karen was a great help as well. These ladies absolutely love what they do and it shows! I am so glad I adopted from Henry County Humane Society! I am grateful for their cause!

We are so blessed to have such wonderful adopters! I couldn’t continue to rescue these precious pups if we didn’t have such amazing adopters! Susan
We are “Paco’s” family.
We adopted “Paco” in 2015 after seeing him at one of HCHS local events.
He had been at the shelter for two years…recovering from some pretty serious surgery.
He was given that chance to live a full life by the amazing and compassionate people at HCHS. They quickly became Paco’s family and caregivers…until the right family was found for him. THAT FAMILY WAS US!!!
He was fully house-trained, loving, gentle spirit…and quickly adapted to our feisty, bossy little Yorkie, Piper, who is one-third his size.
Paco was known around our county…and people were so happy to hear we were Paco’s new and forever family.
We are so thankful to Susan and the many workers and volunteers at Henry County Humane Society!
Lots of Love…
Paco’s Forever Family

Paco could not have gotten a more perfect family! Susan
We adopted our dog from here last winter. They did a great job matching him with us and continued to check on us after we brought him
home. Everyone there really does love and care for the animals.

Thank you for adopting! We only want the best for our furkids! Susan
This is a great organization that makes every effort to ensure that animals are adopted into homes that will be their forever locations. The people that work at and operate the shelter take excellent care of the animals that come into their care.
I have adopted numerous dogs from this nonprofit and each interaction with them has been wonderful

I have lived in Henry County for over 40 years. While I have seen it progress from a popular dumping ground for dogs and cats from more populated areas around Atlanta, the problem of overpopulation of animals within the county persists. The Henry County Humane Society has made it its mission to control this overpopulation problem with its “No More Litters “ program. Through there fund. Raising they are assisting those who are financial need to spay and neuter their pets. I wish to commend them for that effort.
I found my puppy through Petfinder which lead me to Henry County Humane Society. The staff at HCHS were friendly, receptive and informative in working with me. I traveled the short trip from Atlanta to meet my new puppy and was able to meet most of the staff in-person. The facility was clean and the few animals I crossed paths with all happy, healthy and well taken care of. I know non-profits and animal shelters don't always have an excess of funds to splurge on wants, but you can tell the staff at HCHS are hard workers and make every dollar and donation count toward caring for these animals in need.

Thank you for the kind complements! We are so grateful for our amazing adoptive families! Susan
We made an appointment and everyone was there to greet us and promptly brought out the dog we came to see. She seemed well taken care of and it was love at first sight. During the adoption process, we were given all her shot records and they even provided us with a collar, harness, leash, pet ID number and food!! It was a wonderful experience and I now have the perfect pet. They named her Frita Rita and we kept it as it just seemed to fit her.

Sascats 10/17/2024
Frita Rita is a hot mess! We love her personality and sass! We were so excited that she found shuch a loving home! Her finder still ask about her! We would love an update! Susan
I contacted Henry County Humane Society May 14th about a dog they had named Twix. An adorable bundle of fur and energy. Within 3 days I had a response and an invitation for a meet and greet with him. I was amazed at how quickly they contacted me.
On Saturday May 20th, my first non-work day, I made the 50+ mile trip to meet everyone. When Susan came around the corner with Twix (now named Oliver) my heart melted. I had a picture in my head of the dog I wanted and he was perfect. The perfect size, perfect personality, everything!!! I watched as this 10# bundle was not intimidated by a standard poodle or anything for that matter. Susan let me take my time watching and interacting with him, there was absolutely no pressure. I had brought along a zip lock bag of treats in my back pocket and he stole those and ran off with them. Sneaky little devil!
I was so surprised that when I said I'd like to be his mom they literally packed a bag for him. He got a couple of new toys that he loves to play with. Also, a small amount of food till we could get to the store, some belly bands to protect my furniture a leash and collar as well.
Thank you so much Susan and the staff at Henry County Humane Society for my Oliver. He is the light in my life and I love him so much.

Sascats 10/17/2024
Thank you for your sweet comments! Twix aka Oliver deserves the best. Allie the standard poodle is full of sass herself and will put the littles in their place when they need it! Thank you for adopting that little boy! Susan
The HCHS is a wonderful nonprofit organization truly devoted to the wellbeing of all the animals in their care. We have adopted three dogs from them which are the most precious, loving children! The facility itself is so clean. I love the fact they are serious about the animals they adopt out; checking Vet Records! They are so thankful for donations so they can stay open, saving, loving and giving the animals in their care a second chance to live a happy well deserved life! Susan and Karen are the two workers who have helped us; I know all of the workers/volunteers there are awesome! You can feel the love!

We love you B! Give those pups a giant hug from me! Susan
Im assuming it’s the receptionist who was blowing up my phone and e-mail. It’s incredible to me that in an environment like that, you hire the absolute rudest, most ignorant, and unprofessional person to be the face of your shelter. Not only that, but this shelter claims to love animals, while adopting them out to homes that abuse them or worse. They call dog bite victims “attention seekers” and absolutely cannot stand when they’re wrong. Do not give them your business or donations when it’s lining the pockets of the despicable.

I believe you may be talking about the county animal control shelter@ 527 Hampton St.?
I had to put my Beloved 16-year-old Furbaby Magic to rest on August 18, 2022, and wanted to do something in honor of Magic's passing. On my recent donation trip on December 16, 2022, I met with Susan who was very nice and compassionate about my situation. She took time to explain the process of the shelter, and how they take care of and have the best interest of the animals well being, and because I can see how the donations help and support Henry County Humane Society, I will continue to donate until I am ready to adopt and give another Furbaby a loving FOREVER HOME that all animals deserve.

Sascats 10/17/2024
Thank you for your kind comments! Magic was lucky to have you as a fur mom!
I have supported Henry County Humane Society through donations and volunteer work for 30+ years. Their commitment to saving lives in Henry County should be an inspiration to anyone who loves animals. In addition to their daily care, they support their community by offering low cost spay neuter to the residents of Henry County, which enhances their life saving efforts, as well as giving back to their community.

Sascats 10/17/2024
Ms D we appreciate your continued support for so many years! Susan
My daughter has been a relief employee for this organization for several years. I too have volunteered at the shelter and with animal transport of several occasions. This organization continues to impress me with their professionalism and compassion for the animals in crisis in Henry County.
My wife has been a volunteer of this organization for many years. I've watched her and the other volunteers save so many innocent lives and The Henry County Humane Society works primarily with their local Animal Control Facility to save as many lives as they can.
I am also Dad to Mr. Jones, a HCHS rescue that was at death's door to to emaciation. My wife fostered him and due to severe anxieties, he found his forever home with us.

There is a reason I've been a long time volunteer with this organization. The Henry County Humane Society works primarily with our local Animal Control to save as many cats and dogs as we can. We have a dedicated volunteer staff and are proud of our No More Litters Program, a low-cost spay/neuter option for the citizens of our community.

We adopted our newest family member from the Henry County Humane Society. The people are professional and caring. The adoption process was simple. It’s obvious that everyone associated with this organization is dedicated to finding the best outcomes for all of the creatures in their care.
I adopted the cutest, sweetest dog from Henry Co. Humane Society - a small boy about 11 lbs., Pelham. I am so impressed with my contact, Susan because she is so personable and highly qualified to care for the animals at the shelter. She took such great care of Pelham to ensure he received the very best care to help him regain his health. He is up-to-date on all of his shots with complete medical records on the treatment he received. This is important to me because I have a mini doodle and also want to be able to give my Vet the documentation for their records. This was such a positive experience. It is obvious the Henry Co. Humane Society staff put their hearts and souls into their rescue work.

It’s so rewarding to hear such sweet complements about the care and compassion we have for our rescues! Susan
This organization is FULL of so many kind hearted people doing everything they can to help these animals. I enjoyed my short time helping them out around the shelter and getting to meet all the beautiful animals and people.
I enjoy volunteering with Henry Humane bathing and grooming the pups to get them ready for their new homes!

Fantastic organization, been donating for years. Money well spent helping all the animals that can't help themselves.
I have rescued several pets from the Henry County Humane Society. There staff was amazing and gave me as much history as they could. And gladly answered any question i had. The animals are very well cared for and loved by staff. They also work diligently behind the scenes to orchestrate fund raising events to benefit the shelter. I have been to a few. (Barks and Brews) and I must say they knocked it out of the park. Very enjoyable and organized. I'm sure a lot of work went into each one. Which to me shows the dedication towards helping the many homeless animals they in counter. I can't think of a better organization to donate to or volunteer for. Thanks Henry County Humane Society, for your dedication to helping rescue as many animals as possible. Below is a picture of Joy ,Pheebie, and Annie formally Gerri Anne. All from HCHS.

The Henry County Humane Society does a great job with all of the animals they take care of. You can tell the volunteers really care about the animals and try their best to get them to good homes. Shenan is great at what she does and always has a smile on her face! We love the Humane Society!
Have supported this shelter for years. Love their mission and what they do for the homeless animals of Henry County.
Great organization with an awesome team of staff and volunteers. I have been a donor for years and happy to support the cause and their mission.

Please remember spaying and neutering is the key to pet over population. The Henry County Humane Society puts emphasis on the importance with their No More Litters Program.

We searched a number of local and on-line dog rescue sites after our dog passed. Although we live in north Metro, it was worth the drive to Henry County where we adopted a dog that was just perfect for us. HCHS staff spend time with the animals so you have a good idea about the temperament, age, general health of the dog under consideration and whether it would be a good fit. Our little rescue was a delight. After she passed, we returned to HCHS and adopted another dog which has been another totally positive experience. It was worth the drive!!!!! Loving, caring folks!
What an awesome organization! As an animal lover, thank goodness these folks help our four-legged friends find forever homes. Everyone needs at least one pet!
I have only recently started working with the Henry County Human Society as a volunteer, but from minute one of day one I knew these were my type of people. They were kind and gentle and 100% devoted to finding a forever home for all their furbabies. They go above and beyond to take care of all of the animals and ensure that when they are adopted it is with their forever parents. I love this place and can't wait for Covid 19 to go away so that I can get back to working with these amazing folks and help them take care of the sweet ones in their care.
These are just some of the best people ever -- you can tell that they REALLY care not only about animals, but about all the humans they're involved with, as well. I've been involved with other animal welfare groups before, and no one has ever done as great a job of vetting adopting "parents" -- and their volunteers are just wonderful. Give 'em some time or a donation (they always need pet supplies) or just a "thank you" if you get a chance -- these folks are working hard to make critters' lives better in Henry County!
I have adopted two dogs from Henry Humane society! If I had more room I would adopt ALL of them! The people that work and maintain the facility at Henry Humane Society are all very friendly and knowledgeable, what is most impressive to me is there never ending care they provide all the animals there, cats and dogs. Also they care enough about the animals to make sure they all get a pet friendly forever home

After my best buddy passed away I decided to share my heart and home to a new dog. I looked up Henry County Humane Society to start my search. I was truly impressed with the shelter being very clean and the volunteers knowledge of the animals. Each and everyone of animals were very clean and just happy to see people. It was a wonderful experience. Application on line, checking on my vets, etc was smooth. My new companion is home!
There are not enough hours in the day to explain to anyone how awesome the Henry County Humane Society is. Every single person that is involved with this program is 100% dedicated to the animals they serve. The lengths they go to in helping the neglected and unwanted souls that cross their path are like nothing I have ever witnessed before. They are honest in their screening process of matching their souls with new families and they work tirelessly to make sure the matches are good for all involved. They are also very conscious of the standing of the rescue groups they work with, only the best will do for their babies. I honestly cannot imagine what this operation would be like with out each one of them.
I give the Henry County Humane Society 5 bright yellow stars. If it were possible I'd give them the entire page of stars. The love and compassion that each person shows for the animals not only is superb but each animal is treated like it is a part of their family. They are cared for so humanely and each person treats them with dignity, no matter how old the animal or how young, cute, injured, scarred etc. There are not words enough on how to exemplify the support and care given. The people are always making new ways to make it better and they select the perfect families for each. Simply saying 'THEY CARE'.
I have been volunteering along with my daughter for the last 2 years and let me tell you this Humane Society really cares. It cares for the animals and it’s owners. I have never experienced love like I have at the Henry County Humane Society.
I adopted my first rescue from Henry Co Humane Soc. It was the best experience. My sweet Nora has made our family whole. Susan at the agency was terrific. She worked around my schedule to allow me to meet Nora. She was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. All the animals at the rescue were loved and well cared for. I can not say enough great things about this agency. I drove 2 hrs to get there and would definitely do it all over again. Thank Goodness for places like Henry Co Humane Society.
Great organization! We have adopted 2 of our fur babies from them and couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I have adopted from and volunteered at HCHS for a few years. They truly care and love all the animals in their care. Workers are kind and courteous. The animals are taken great care of in a clean environment. I am proud to be a volunteer with this organization.
Much thanks to Henry County Humane Society! They accepted, vetted and loved on an extremely neglected , matted and sick middle-aged pup that I have since adopted. She is now healthy, happy and a beloved member of our family. HCHS spent much more in this dog's care (she also needed surgery) than they got back from my adoption fee but that didn't deter them from providing exceptional care to a dog that needed it. The shelter is always clean and the animals in their care are well cared for. This volunteer run shelter is top notch!
These are some of the hardest working and most caring folks in the business! When you interact with them, you can tell the compassion for the furry ones! My hats off to them for doing what they do for the furry ones that can't do for them selves.
Woof woof. Meow meow. Translated: Thank you!!
I’m grateful to HCHS. My main contact has been Betsy, whom I adore. Before we adopted our precious baby girl I had a lot of questions and Betsy spent an hour with me on the phone answering my questions and concerns. We’ve kept in touch and, I’m sure, I harass her with weekly pictures of our little one, but she continues to be gracious in her responses to my barrage of text messages (pictures). Betsy is the very best and I can never thank her enough for fostering her for eight months (I think it was 8 months). Had she not done that, we would have never had the opportunity to adopt our little girl. Thank you, forever, Betsy!
The volunteers at this shelter are so kind and caring. They really do their due diligence with adoptions. I’m a adopter and will forever donate.
The volunteers are very helpful. The place always smells good. they take good care of the animals that come through there until they find them there forever home.
Review from Guidestar
The few times I have gone to visit the dogs, the people there were friendly and were willing to answer questions to the best of their ability. The building always smelled nice and clean INCLUDING THE CAT ROOM. I did not smell litter boxes or poop. The Volunteers at this organization put a lot of hard work into caring for the animals in their shelter.
Review from Guidestar
Henry County Humane Society is a group of caring compassionate loving people. Seeing their dedicated volunteer presence at each large community event, the same faces over and over, this shows how well this organization is to not only the pets in their program but also their wonderful volunteers.
Review from Guidestar
The work that this organization does is amazing. They truly care about the well being of each and every animal.
What a great group of people! They care about each individual animal and our community! Very simple to work with! I had an issue, trying to help someone on a weekend and they were there! Jea Gackowski
Wonderful people , Excellent Work ! I have rescued many animals and always find this organization to be professional and compassionate. Glad Henry Co has them !
The Henry Humane Society is a wonderful group of AMAZING people. They love each and every one of the pets, and they are phenomenal to work with. Absolutely fantastic!!!
These group of people genuinely love our animals and do everything in their power to save each and everyone they can.
I’ve been involved with helping homeless animals in one way or another all my life and have supported (either as a volunteer or donor), many rescue organizations over the years. I've watched Henry County Humane Society progress from a “foster home” organization to operating a brick and mortar shelter, with a focus not only on rescue and adoption, but community outreach and education as well. This organization goes the extra mile to give abandoned, abused and neglected animals the best chance at finding loving homes.
Henry County Humane Society is an amazing place with amazing people! Our family adopted a puppy from them last year and they were so accommodating. They let us come visit several times with our chosen puppy before he was old enough to come home. Even after hours! I could tell everyone there truly loved the cats and dogs that lived there. The facility was clean and all animals looked well taken care of and healthy. When my daughters are old enough, we plan to volunteer there!
Henry County Human Society (HCHS) is a blessing for both four legged and two legged creatures alike. They go beyond simply placing animals in homes. HCHS takes the time and applies the diligence to go above and beyond to place animals in the right home, creating lasting bonds for animals and humans alike. Once an adoption happens, the relationship does not end there. They have a wonderful social presence that provides ongoing education and information and they truly create a sense of being in the HCHS family...which is why its no wonder they have numerous repeat adopters. The care and concern they give to the animals in their care is truly remarkable and heartwarming. When we took our recently adopted dog to our vet for a health check, he commented that he had never seen such a well cared for and healthy dog come from a shelter before. HCHS performs a wonderful service and does so with 100% heart behind it!
HCHS cares for each individual animal under their care. They don't just care for animals but also keep their online presence extremely active, which is so important for adoptions. It was how I was able to find my precious boy shih tzu who is now my most wonderful companion. He may be a rescue but he has the best personality and behavior. The work they do can at times seem so thankless but they continue to carry on. I also continue to donate regularly because the HCHS's work and dedication is so stellar.
We had rescued a puppy at the Atlanta Humane Society and then felt she needed a companion. So we searched and finally found the perfect companion for our Dixie. Mistletoe had been thrown out on the street with her newborn puppies by her owner at Christmastime. Luckily a neighbor called animal control and they picked her up and brought her and her puppies to Henry county Humane Society. Her babies were all adopted but Mistletoe sat in the shelter for 3 months. You could tell she was abused by her previous owner, she was very thin and skiddish. It took a lot of love, training and time til she learned that she was lovable and that is was ok to be happy. It has been two years and Missy and her sister Dixie are inseparable. Thank you Henry County for taking her in.
so happy with this organization. they care for each pet so well. i just adopted a beautiful little female beagle who was so well taken care of and just perfect. can not thank the Humane Society enough. everyone there is wonderful!
I have volunteered with Henry County Humane Society for several years. In fact, I adopted a dog from them in 2004, which started my involvement in volunteering and dog rescue. I have never met such a dedicated, caring group of people. The staff and volunteers go far beyond the call of duty every day to save cats and dogs and then provide them with the best care possible. They have a great screening process for potential adopters and offer support after the adoptions. The animals who are rescued by this group are very fortunate, and I highly recommend Henry Humane to anyone who is considering a place to volunteer or adopt a new pet.
I have volunteered for several years at Henry County Humane Society. The people involved there truly care for the animals and they receive great care.
I've been involved with animal rescue for years in Henry County, and while I have never been a volunteer with the Henry County Humane Society, I have known many of their volunteers and employees. Many of them I consider special friends. They are relentless and tireless when it comes to the abandoned and abused animals in our county. The efforts and work they do to ensure animals are cared for and loved is inspiring. A BIG SHOUT-OUT TO HCHS!!
I'm an avid fan of Henry County Humane Society. Their residents are very well cared for by the staff & volunteers during the time these precious babies wait for their forever families to arrive.
We (my wife and I) have been involved in rescue for about 10 years. We've known and worked with the people in Henry County Humane Society for the past 5 years. When it comes to rescue, it's about the people - who are all about the dogs. In this group's case to say the people exceed expectations simply isn't enough of a superlative. The furkids I've seen then help go way beyond what many rescue can, or will, do. When we say "It's all about the dogs", Henry County Humane Society truly walks the talk. Henry County is fortunate to have such people. WE are fortunate to have these people in our lives. They truly are a Great Nonprofit.
I have dealt with several rescue agencies over the years, but I have to say Henry County Humane Society is the absolute best. I have adopted two dogs from them, and I have always found them to be caring, helpful and professional. They really care about the animals, and it shows in everything they do. I help them whenever I can, and I hope others will consider doing the same. They make such a difference in the lives of so many fur babies.
I love Henry Humane!! I am proud to be a volunteer and work with such caring people! The animals are loved and well cared for and they make that all dogs in their care are loved and physically cared for. They work hard to find wonderful homes for the dogs. Love this groups of caring, generous and compassionate people!!!
Two years ago, on July 5, I drove from East Central Florida to the Henry County Humane Society to pick up a Shih Tzu named Lindsey (now named Emmie Grace.) I had applied for her not knowing if I would be considered since it was written that there were no adoptions outside of the Atlanta area. But, after losing my 15 year old Shih Tzu in June and being devastated, I wrote how I felt after seeing "Lindsey" on Petfinder.com. When Susan called me to tell me she was mine, I was ecstatic. She and another person investigated potential places for me and "Lindsey" to stay overnight so we could have time together and rest before making the trip back to Florida. Susan also helped me with getting all the official paperwork done including that which changed her name to Emmie Grace. She got me a harness (one that I brought was too big) and a carrier that would work for Emmie. Emmie had been bathed and groomed prior to my getting to the shelter. Emmie looked so different but Susan assured me she was the same dog. After we got home to Florida, Susan had me check in with her a few times, which I was happy to do. This shelter had saved my Emmie Grace's life! She had been taken in with her brother from a high-kill shelter. I understand her brother is also living in Western Florida and both now have excellent homes. The newsletter from the Henry County Humane Society is so wonderful to read each month to keep up with the adoptions and work that is being done to help all the adorable animals at the shelter. I will always be grateful to them for saving Emmie Grace for me and for all the wonderful work they do to benefit the rescued animals.
