HAH is more than just an organization, they are our family. HAH builds homes for Heroes and their families such as ourselves but HAH does so much more than that; you have to look at the whole picture especially when dealing with all the mixed media out there. There are two sides to every story. Did they mention the dinners, shoots, tours, family functions, hunts we all get to experience together? Did they mention how the staff and volunteers at HAH have completely dedicated their lives to this cause? Did they mention they have sleepless nights getting everything ready for the events? What about the marriage counseling that HAH has set up for us with a Volunteer (who flies cross county several times a year to be with us and does individual sessions with Gomeeting)? HAH does all this because they care; It is for their family. And frankly, we are proud to be a part of the HAH family.

I am Retired Army Sgt Benjamin A Marksmeier. Helping A Hero implies EXACTLY what it's name states. I am a wounded veteran. I was wounded in 2006 by an IED. Most of us wounded veterans don't feel like heroes. We are simply doing our duties. Putting our lives on the line is what we committed to do by signing our names' on the line. Helping A Hero won't leave my family or me behind!!!!! What they provide is an opportunity for a better future. Physically, financially, physiologically, spiritually, emotionally, etc... Helping A Hero stands for those who chose to stand for others.....and can't stand today for those valiant efforts. This organization needs to grow and flourish!!!! So its efforts can grow now and more importantly in the future. To always be an entity of support and love for those who deserve it. To the warriors of this beautiful nation we call home. I gave my life to my country ( I came home with 1 dog tag) and now Helping A Hero is giving me a better life. They are building my family and I a beautiful home. A forever until forever home. How do I explain how that feels?? I can't. Words have no meaning to the feelings I feel. The people involved in the organization are so connected to the cause of helping. God bless America!!!

Helping a Hero is a wonderful non profit! I’ve seen their generosity and support of our veterans first hand. My nephew is a triple amputee veteran, he was injured in Afghanistan in 2012. Helping a Hero has been amazing in their support of him. They really care for our veterans as individuals, addressing specific needs for each one.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to be a part of Helping a Hero, a remarkable non-profit organization that is truly dedicated to serving and supporting our nation's heroes. As a volunteer and supporter, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact this organization has on the lives of wounded veterans across the United States.

Helping a Hero's unwavering passion and commitment to assisting veterans is simply awe-inspiring. They go above and beyond to address the unique and multifaceted needs of these brave individuals, ensuring that they receive the care, support, and resources they require to rebuild their lives after experiencing severe injuries.

One aspect that sets Helping a Hero apart is their comprehensive approach to veteran support. They understand that the wounds of war extend far beyond the physical, encompassing emotional, psychological, and social challenges as well. The organization provides a wide range of services, including accessible housing all tailored to meet the specific needs of each veteran.

It is truly humbling to witness the impact Helping a Hero has on the lives of these wounded veterans. By providing adaptive housing solutions, they create an environment that promotes independence, mobility, and a sense of normalcy. The organization's dedication to ensuring that every veteran has a safe and accessible home where they can thrive is nothing short of remarkable.

Moreover, Helping a Hero's commitment to fostering a supportive community for veterans is commendable. Through various programs and events, they create opportunities for veterans to connect, share experiences, and build lasting relationships. The sense of camaraderie and belonging that arises from these initiatives is vital in the healing process and plays an instrumental role in the veterans' successful transition back into civilian life.

What truly touched my heart is the genuine respect and gratitude that Helping a Hero shows towards our veterans. They understand that serving those who have served our country is both a privilege and an honor. This sentiment is evident in every interaction, event, and program they organize. The dedication and compassion of the organization's staff and volunteers shine through, making a profound difference in the lives of those they serve.

In conclusion, Helping a Hero is an exceptional non-profit organization that is making an indelible impact on the lives of wounded veterans across the country. Their unwavering commitment to supporting and empowering these heroes is an inspiration to us all. I am immensely proud to be associated with such a noble cause, and I wholeheartedly recommend Helping a Hero to anyone looking to make a positive difference in the lives of our deserving veterans.

Helping a Hero changes lives and empowers our nations severely wounded veterans. Throughout the process of building a hoke for the veterans, they are also empowering the family of the service member. The family that waited to see if their hero returned home from war. I am so proud to be affiliated with this organization. Working with Helping a Hero is always a moving and humbling experience. The way that they serve our veteran community is selfless and grand. I leave every encounter with renewed gratitude for the men and women that bravely serve our country. The least we can do to honor those that have made physical sacrifices is to gift them an adaptable home.

Thank you Helping a Hero for ALL that you do!!

Working with Meredith and the Helping a Hero team was such an honor. I had the privilege of being onsite when they hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for a family in NC. Meredith and her team have a heart for heroes and their families. It is my honor to work with them and I look forward to doing it again. Great Organization, well ran and cost effective.

This non-profit puts the most wounded War on Terror veterans in adaptive homes designed for their physical need. The organization started as a project of the Houston Rotary Club in conjunction with the TV show "Extreme Makeover, Home Edition" on ABC. The scale of the need was great enough that a longer term entity was formed in "Helping a Hero". With the support of community developers, home builders and their contractors, Bass Pro Shop and people like you, they are on their next tranche of projects building 100 new homes for these Veterans. This is a charity with an ENTIRE PAYROLL smaller than just the CEO salary of other non profit organizations.

Knowing that your job requires you to be away from the family for unknown amount of time, knowing that you may not know which part of the world and which strange environment and culture you may have to work, knowing that you may not be able to be with your family on their special days and events, and knowing that you may not be able to ever come home or return home with permanent disabilities, and knowing that you may never be able to work again due to your injuries even after you get to return, our veterans take these positions to serve our country.
HAH provides a home that can be adapted by these wounded warriors so then can live as normal of a life as possible, when do get to return and live with pride and dignity with their family.
I am proud to be serving this organization for over 11 years and currently as the chairman of the Board.
God bless our veterans and Hod bless USA!!!

Helping a Hero helped my family by helping my son that was severely injured in Iraq in 2005. He needed an accessible home as he was using a wheelchair at that time. They worked with us to find an available home in our hometown that would be custom built to his needs. The home helped Steven become more independent and it really gave him a new drive to work on his rehab. His pride in being a homeowner added a bit of normalcy in a "new normal" life that was much different than he had planned. Helping a Hero Org is an important part of his recovery story. They are truly part of the village that helps the severely injured. Thank you HAH.

Helping A Hero has provided our family the opportunity to have a home built that will meet and exceed all of the needs of our family, but more importantly, the needs of my husband who became an amputee while in combat in 2007. Not only will this home help my husband to live more comfortably, it will provide our family the financial freedom we have been seeking to live a more generous life. We've also had some amazing opportunities to do things as a family and experience things we wouldn't not have been able to do. This last summer we got to go to the Ozarks and stay in some pretty amazing cabins while exploring Dogwood Canyon and many other places. We also got to help celebrate Lee Greenwood's 40 year career in Huntsville, Alabama! These opportunities are also helping other veterans see what resources are available. We've also had the opportunity to nominate a hero we know for an amazing opportunity to have a home.

Helping a Hero is an incredible charity. The homes they build are so beautiful and are custom adapted to the veteran the home is built for. I met a young man who lost both legs in the war. When he is wearing his prosthetics you would never know he was missing his legs. I was inspired by his optimism and positive attitude. He told me that his home from Helping a Hero was the turning point in his recovery. I hope people will continue to give to this charity so even more wounded warriors get a home.

Volunteering with Helping A Hero is a joy beyond words! Each hero I have the honor of meeting, interacting with and hearing their story is an incredible blessing. One of the many benefits observed is as each hero receives their home and integrates into the community, is the way the community embraces them and their home becomes a central place to gather. This gives the hero and his or her family a sense of belonging rather than living in a world of isolation, feeling like they don’t fit in. Helping a Hero is a life changing gift to each hero and the hero a treasured gift to all they meet!

This organization has done a great job in providing specialized housing for those special needs veterans who have lost limbs and been severely injured to protect us here at home in the fight against those forces of terrorism. I have made donations to this group for the past several years and I don't make donations to any organization where I cannot see most of my money going to the people an organization says it is helping. This non-profit is one of those great groups I have that kind of faith in.

Helping a Hero is like family to me. I received a home from Helping a Hero. I am so grateful that Helping a Hero has always been there for me when I needed them. And thanks to their Wounded Hero Home Program agreement I didnt lose my home in my divorce. Thank you Helping a Hero!

I was first introduced to Helping a Hero in November 2013. During their Annual Gala, I witnessed the organization's giving spirit and tremendous respect for America's finest men and women. This organization is committed to ensuring that those who have sacrificed so much are empowered and supported.

I was a donor on the first home built by Helping a Hero. It is so inspiring to meet the men and women that have served our country. The home recipients of Helping a Hero have incredible stories of valor, sacrifice, duty, and honor. Watching Helping a Hero build these homes makes me proud to be an American, Great job Helping a Hero.

Helping a Hero is a very accountable charity and its audit shows over 80 cents of every donation goes to the bottom line. I was impressed that they are accredited by the Better Business Bureau. The BBB has a very stringent 20 point review process and there are only less than 100 charities in the Houston area with the BBB seal. Hats off to Helping a Hero for going the extra mile so donors know their money is well invested.

The United States Army has been supporting many of the Helping A Hero events that have occurred since the organization's inception at multiple events throughout the country.

We have sent Soldier volunteers to help these Heroes following their home presentations to help with their needs. This organization provides an unbelievable community service that ties both the community and the federal, state and local government together in one effort.

There are normally very few uniformed military at these events and that part is sad, since these Heroes have given so much. The U.S. Army is committed to these heroes and we make every effort to attend groundbreaking or home dedications, whenever feasible and our heroes really appreciate seeing military there to support them. Often, there will be a Soldier or two who served on the mission they were injured on and this means the world to them.

Helping A Hero is a tremendous organization that we will continue to support wherever the call.

The U.S. Army Reserve Ambassador and Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for east Texas also attends when their calendars permit.

In a world that can seem crowded with good causes, Helping a Hero truly shows how to stay focused on the goal of helping veterans and their family.. Probably the best thing is that their track record and personal involvement means that the project WILL get done and done right. Working with them has truly been educational and inspiring.

Huge lack of organization and communication. Staff and board members have very high turnover...when someone questions the integrity of the chairman, out they go. Lots of bad press with unanswered questions and missing money.... Not a fan or supporter of this organization anymore.

I've been involved with Helping Hero for about 5 years and have been nothing but impressed. I've been involved in the ground breaking for a home for a local vet and then in the presentation of that home later. The local volunteers are exceptional, and their fund raising projects have been handled flawlessly. The leadership at the national level is nothing short of outstanding, and the fact that $.82 of every dollar donated goes to the vets is testament to the fact this is a first class and above-the-board organization. I strongly recommend Helping a Hero for anyone's volunteering or donation plans. There are numerous organizations in the country dedicated to taking care of our wounded vets, but Helping a Hero ranks at the top of the list. Your volunteer talents and your monetary support for Helping a Hero will NOT be wasted. They are an absolutely First Rate organization.

HelpingaHero.org is a family. In just a few days, the first home recipient, PFC Kenny Adams, USA (Ret) will complete his commitment to live in his beautiful $300,000 home for 10 years. While the home equity was always in his name, he couldn't borrow against it for the 10 years beyond his original mortgage of $50,000 that represented his obligation to the home. This 10 year agreement also kept him from losing his home or the equity in a divorce. Our wounded warriors need our support. Building an accessible home tailored to their needs is an important first step. And encouraging them as they continue their journey on their road to recovery, is important too. Helping a Hero builds amazing homes, and does marriage retreats, caregiver retreats, hunting and fishing trips, Operation Merry Christmas, and so much more.

As a former Board member of this charity, I encourage you to support Helping a Hero and help this charity build more homes for wounded warriors. Helping a Hero is a transparent and accountable charity and was certified in February 2015 by the Better Business Bureau as a transparent and accountable charity.

Helping a Hero identifies the wounded warrior, raises the funds for the home, then assembles the build team, designs the adapted floorplan to meet the needs of the wounded warrior, works with the builder to secure in kind labor and material donations and builds the home as agreed and approved by the wounded warrior.

I have worked with wounded warriors for several years in several capacities. While working with a couple of them at Brooke Army Medical Center I came upon Helping a Hero. I was so impressed that I have volunteered for the past 3 years. I know for a fact that the organization goes through growing pains but I also know that they go ABOVE and BEYOND . No company, organization nor person is perfect but I know this group tries very hard. I am a believer in being fair and if you have a complaint talk it out and address the real problem. I do believe that the present leaders of this non profit do that. I have seen the smiles on warrior's faces as the result of actions taken by Helping a Hero. This organization not only builds special adapted homes but it also has been known to pay electric bills, taxes, send warriors children to summer camp and so many other unexpected things. I put my money where my mouth is and financially support this wonderful organization because of the love and care shown to all warriors.

Helping a Hero is an outstanding charity and a great steward of contributions, with the four year average of 90% of all funds contributed being spent on veteran programs. They operate with a very lean staff, yet have helped veterans in 22 states. This is a highly recommended charity.

I'm part of the home recipient class of 2015, and Helping a Hero has been fantastic so far. Even though I haven't broken ground on a home, the process has been going well. HaH is upfront with what they are committing to, and they are clear on what I'm responsible for. Under new leadership, I'm confident that Helping a Hero will correct any mistakes they have made and continue to better the lives of veterans.

I do know some veterans who are unhappy with HaH and feel they have been mislead or taken advantage of. I can't speak for them, just myself. All I know is that they are trying to correct the mistakes that were so that vets like me know what to expect and not given false promises.

I love being a part of the Helping a Hero family. Jeff Ragland and Johnnie Yellock are stand up guys and give it to you straight. That's all I ask for.

What a blessing HaH has been to our family. We've never felt misled by the organization. We understand that this is not an overnight process. Col. Jeff and his team have answered all our questions and concerns in a timely manner. We consider them family and are very pleased to be a part of this incredible organization.

Let's start off with what HaH did right, they put me and my family into a beautiful home. They created a network of veterans that grew into a military like brotherhood that we loved and shared all of our moments within organization. I met and befriended countless other veterans going through the same situation as my family. I am grateful and humbled beyond belief that we could get something as amazing as a new home. They put my family into position to meet some great patriots that helped me and my family. The process of getting the home is anything but easy, I have yet to secure the home loan that they require but the new leadership is being extremely patient and understanding. They have had a few people in my experience that have done a less than reputable job in handling their job within the organization and have made it extremely difficult to put anything HaH does in a good light. They knew my situation before I moved into this home and like I said earlier they are doing their best to work with me now. I am putting a huge amount of trust back into HaH in hopes that they won't let me down again, but I think now that Col. Ragland has taken over and now is doing his best to fix what has happened in the past that Helping a Hero can be one of the greatest home organizations of its kind.

If you have time give it a Google search and check out the negative press. There's no reason an organization dedicated to helping wounded veterans should have so much bad publicity from former board members and veterans who have been involved with the organization. I resigned from the board in protest. It was clear then to me where the true motivation lies in the organization. It is even more clear to me now, years later- many veterans done dirty.

Helping a hero has been a family of individuals that are more than just Big-Hearted, they are my extended family. From the time that I met Meredith and her family, they have been a blessing ever since. Helping a hero has helped my family and I in our time of need and has also been a blessing when we have not been in need. Helping a hero has given me an opportunity to push myself harder and to make a better life for my family. Everyone that I have met through Helping a Hero have been amazing. They are caring, loving, and most important...involved. They have been given me a better insight for living and living within my means as I battle my disabilities. Helping a Hero has been such a blessing, I thank each and everyone in the organization for being kind and loving towards my family and myself. I thank God for bringing Helping a Hero into our lives. Helping A hero was the first organization that helped me when I left the military (2004). They have been with us every step of the way. They are part of my family.
