When I first discovered Helping Our Miniature Equines (HOME), I never imagined the profound impact it would have on my life and my family’s. Volunteering at HOME has become a source of immense peace and joy for me, a true refuge from the stresses of everyday life. From the very first day I stepped onto their grounds, I felt an overwhelming sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing that I was contributing to something truly meaningful.

HOME is not just a rescue; it’s a sanctuary for both the animals it serves and the people who care for them. The rescue's dedication to rehabilitating and rehoming miniature equines is nothing short of extraordinary. Since its inception in 2021, HOME has rescued and provided care to over 100 miniature horses, each with its own story of struggle and survival. Witnessing their transformation from fragile, neglected creatures to healthy, spirited companions is a testament to the love and hard work poured into this organization.

For my entire family, HOME has become much more than a volunteer opportunity—it’s a shared passion that has brought us closer together. We’ve spent countless hours working side by side, whether it’s feeding the horses, cleaning stalls, or simply enjoying the company of these gentle beings. It’s a blessing to see how much our involvement has enriched our lives, teaching us the values of compassion, patience, and commitment.

The impact of HOME extends far beyond the physical care they provide. The rescue has created a community of volunteers and supporters who are united by a common goal: to give these miniature equines the second chance they deserve. Being part of this community has been an incredibly rewarding experience, filling my heart with a sense of belonging and connection.

HOME’s unwavering dedication to its mission is truly inspiring. The team works tirelessly to ensure that each horse receives the medical care, nutrition, and love they need to thrive. The rescue’s careful and compassionate approach to rehoming ensures that every equine finds a forever home where they will be cherished and well-cared-for.

In a world that can often feel chaotic and overwhelming, volunteering at HOME has been a source of serenity for me. It’s a place where I can connect with nature, bond with animals, and be part of a cause that makes a real difference. Knowing that I am helping to change the lives of these wonderful creatures gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and peace.

My family and I are incredibly grateful to be part of the HOME family. The experiences we’ve shared and the friendships we’ve formed have been truly life-changing. Helping Our Miniature Equines is not just a rescue—it’s a beacon of hope, a place where both animals and people can heal and grow. I cannot express enough how much this rescue means to me and how blessed we are to be part of this amazing organization.

This small operation is so caring of their 'guests'. From the time an animal is rescued to the time our baby finds a forever home. HOME is our name - Helping Our Mini Equines. This is what we do. Care through medical, dental, therapy and gentle training. No mini equine is rushed. We care about their future. Forever placements are veted. We even go to visit our prior residents. Minis can't be resold to anyone other than HOME to ensure the minis safety.
Its all about the horse.

As a recently retired individual, I needed something outside the home to keep busy. I found this organization and I chose to volunteer for this non-profit. Their focus is to help save mini horses and donkeys. Who doesn't love a horse!
At this time there are also three ponies, two full size mules and two full size horses. A draft horse was also just recently re-homed.
They all come from different backgrounds with varying types of abuse. Very seldom are they owner surrenders, in good health and socialized.
As the horses and donkeys heal emotionally and physically, they are treated by a wonderful staff of volunteers that love and care for them. We feed, clean paddocks, bring them snacks, groom and take them for walks. Some are blind, some are on meds and some are on special diets, due to their previous circumstances. They have vet, dental and farrier care. They are hospitalized for surgeries or emergencies.
Some of the mini's go out to retirement communities (they love a field trip) to bring a little joy to folks who could use a little happiness boost from an unconventional therapy animal.
The people who volunteer here are truly exceptional. A person who knows nothing about equines or is a little apprehensive is welcome. All of us 'teach' what we have learned, and they will soon be teaching someone else.
My time and experiences here are very rewarding. It's nice to know that one person can help make a difference in another beings' life.
Other non-profits seem to have a paid staff/director board/volunteer separation which, in my opinion, is not very conducive/inclusive to a 'happy' experience. There is no separation here.
I really enjoy it at H.O.M.E. and I look forward to my days there.

I have had the pleasure of volunteering with HOME, and I am continually impressed with the work they do for their minis. This nonprofit is dedicated to ensuring that these sweet animals find their forever homes, and they go above and beyond to make that happen.
The team at HOME is passionate, caring, and truly committed to the well-being of every animal they rescue. They provide a safe and loving environment for the minis, giving them the best chance to thrive and find loving families. The dedication and hard work of the staff and volunteers are evident in every aspect of their operations.
If you are looking for a nonprofit to support or volunteer with, I highly recommend HOME. Their mission to provide forever homes for minis is truly inspiring, and they are making a significant difference in the lives of these wonderful animals.

HOME is a mini horse and donkey rescue. It is 100% volunteer run. The people there care about the welfare and future of these, often times, frightened, neglected or abused horses. Every effort is made to work towards a forever home with a loving family for them. Medical care, supplements, good citizen training.... whatever is necessary is given to help these sweet souls on their way to another chance at a happy life!

Oh, my...what a great year. I started volunteering in February of this year. I am retired, from Ohio, didn't know many people and was tired of just sitting around. I saw a notice for HOME, and fell in love with everything about this rescue. The mission is pure and truly about making sure these animal get a chance at the best possible life. Some of their pasts are heartbreaking. But, to see the turnaround in trusting and loving, after being treated well and cared for, properly is amazing! I am honored to earn their trust. I have a great time with all the other volunteers, and now have some great friends! Together, we all make it work. It has made my life so much happier, because we are doing good things at HOME.

This organization is very close to my heart. The mission started out to save mini equines in auctions and kill pens. Now it is owner surrenders (getting ahead of the auctions), taking minis to senior centers and hospice homes and working with people to learn about and work with minis. Came for the horses and stayed for the people. ❤️

This is such an amazing organization. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome to forever homes. We help Miniature, horses, mini donkeys and mini mules. One of the things that makes this rescue so great is the people. The love and care that is happening here is for equines and people alike. I love these people, these horses and our mission.

I found HOME while searching for something to do with my granddaughter during covid. Everyone was so welcoming I've been there ever since. Whatever your skill level or physical capability there is something to do to help these rescued minis find their forever homes. The volunteers obviously love the horses. They go way above and beyond to give the best care (whatever is needed) for the minis to live their best life whether that is with a new family, or a permanent place in HOME Haven. It truly is HOME for the minis and volunteers.

I've been a part of this great non-profit since it started. The attention and expertise on how to care for these abused and neglected horses is top notch. The love and extra care that goes into each horse is what makes me proud to be a part of this place. They are very attentive to the adoption process and take every measure possible to make sure these horses go to a forever home that'll love them as much as we do. The volunteers are respected, appreciated, and treated like family. I look forward to my weekly volunteering because it makes the rest of my week better just by being there.

I have been volunteering here for over 2 yrs. This place has become my life, my passion. What H.O.M.E. does for the minis is absolutely amazing. They come to us so broken and some not. It takes time, kindness, and patience to get these babies back on track. It’s truly amazing to watch these babies from start to happy home. My blood, sweat and tears in in this place. It’s my family and my H.O.M.E. too. Every dime counts that we get in. There is a constant need for help. All donations go straight to the horses. It’s all about giving them the best life possible ❤️

I have been a volunteer here for almost 6 months. I cannot tell you how rewarding it is to see these beautiful horses progress and begin to trust humans again. The process is long and difficult but worth every second spent with them. Their unconditional love brings so much joy. We at HOME genuinely care about our horses welfare, not just today, tomorrow, but for the life of the animal. We work together as a team for the best possible outcome. The more I learn the better I can help these sweet babies. It is a honor and a privilege to get to do this for them. It’s never been a job. When I’m not volunteering I’m constantly thinking about the horses and what I can do to better help them. HOME, is a great place, no matter the circumstances our horses always have HOME. Sometimes, sheep too. ❤️❤️❤️ Love you BAbaaaaa

I have been volunteering at H.O.M.E for 1 year and 4 months. I am very impressed by how they take care of the animals. It doesn’t matter what kind of health problem they have, they will take them in, get them checked by the vet and give them the most comfortable life possible. They care about the horses health, emotional well being and comfort. It is bitter sweet when the animals leave to go to a new home. We all love them and get to know them but are happy they are going to a great (vetted) home.

This rescue is truly remarkable. They do so many things for so many equines! HOME makes sure any mini equine, donkey or horse, gets all the love and care they need. I’ve seen firsthand the volunteers and directors turn once scared equine and help them flourish into souls who can find their forever home. They also take in medical cases that previous owners couldn’t handle and do what needs to be done for the well-being of the animal!

I have been volunteering at HOME for a year and a half now. I can honestly say the horses and donkeys who come her get the best possible care. Lori is totally committed to these animals and they get everything they need. Many of the horses come to us in very poor condition and it is amazing to see how much they change and become happy, healthy little horses. It is also nice that anything we volunteers notice and report gets looked into right away. Everything done here is to improve these babies and get them ready to go to well-screened adopters.

Working with the mini rescues and donkeys at H.O.M.E is one of the best experiences I've had. The rescued minis and donkeys are taken such good care of and the families adopting them are thoroughly vetted to make sure they will never have to suffer again. Even though the horses get a lot out of the rescue, I feel like I get more out if it than they do. I get several hours a week of pure happiness just being around them. In addition, the rescue organization is great so no volunteers are confused or not utilized and the horses get exactly what they need when they need it.

I started volunteering 7 months ago and was welcomed into this group with absolutely no equine experience. I was terrified of big horses but after my first shift I knew HOME was where I wanted to be and love volunteering.
I quickly learned how very important this facility is to the equine community. I’ve witnessed amazing transformations of mini horses, mini donkeys, and volunteers too!
The excellent vet care, nutrition, training, love and compassion, shared with these little ones leads to adoptions into forever homes.
At HOME, every volunteer is valued and appreciated for the contributions they make to forward the mission of saving mini’s, one life at a time.
As volunteers there are many opportunities to learn everything you’d like to know about mini equines.
There is an abundance of love and patience shared with mini’s and volunteers alike!
It’s because of these reasons that I am also a donor.
The leadership is tireless, thoughtful, caring, and passionate in their dedication to improving the lives of neglected, abused, or surrendered mini equines.

While putting the animals first they also take care of their volunteers, listening to suggestions and working with them to provide the best animal care. Not only do they screen applicants for the horse rescue but they also follow up after adoption to make sure these animals are getting the right care. When you think of a rescue, it’s to save the animals from bad or dire situations. But what does a volunteer get from helping out?
At HOME( helping our miniature equines) the volunteer experience has been so rewarding and fulfilling. I’ve made friends, and developed relationships with people and horses alike. I love the interaction we can have with the animals-and how they love us back. This is truly a special place, and heart filling moments occur here every day.

Having been away from horses it was a life changing experience to be the first volunteer at this wonderful rescue. It is hard to describe the joy it is to start with an animal who may have been abused or is in bad shape and see them be rehabilitated and move to there forever home. This rescue is about doing always the best for every animal. But it's not only a H.O.M.E for them. It's also a home for all its volunteers.
