When the wildfires hit Gatlinburg, TN, Helping His Hands was there. So was I. I will be 80 in 2 months, but when I was asked to come help, I did. We slept in a church building in the Cove, and every day went to work on a house that had been completely leveled by the fire. A single woman lived there with her son. Her insurance company scammed her and some people she hired to haul off trees also scammed her. Helping His Hands did not! Not only did they rebuild her house, it was bigger than the one that was destroyed. It did not matter that the week we chose to work was the hottest week of the summer...up to 103 degrees. And yes, this is in the mountains of East Tennessee. The thing I was most impressed with was the commitment of the main crew of this Organization. They care so much about the people they help, that you would think THEY were the ones who had lost their home! You probably would not talk to them very long before tears would well up as they described the losses these people have suffered. I am not skilled, nor can I do much at all, but they acted like I was necessary to the work going on. And in spite of my failings, the work did indeed get done. I am so thankful for the opportunity of working with this fine group. Pat Oaks Knoxville, TN
I have taken college students every year on trips with HHH it is enriching rememberable and changes lives.
Helping His Disaster Response is a fantastic organization that is mission driven. There mission is people. HHH has grown at a rapid rate which speaks volumes about what they do. I have had the privilege of volunteering on several HHH projects and they are well organized and a blessing to work with.
My fiancé and I first met Scott and HHH on a spring break mission trip in 2019. It was the most wonderful and transforming experience. Scott and his team have such a heart after the Lord and His kingdom. We are so excited to partner with them in the future!
I've worked with Helping His Hands on mission trips with my student ministry at college at UT Knoxville and also locally! I love getting to be able to actually meet and spend time with the people we are helping. Being able to do work that you absolutely know is helping people and also just pouring love into them is such a Godly rewarding feeling. You don't have to be able to specifically do construction; there is something for everybody to work on!
Tears streaming down my face..I cry out God Help! The wildfires of Gatlinburg TN stripped me of Hope. Helping His Hands and their steadfast loyalty in answering the Fathers call brought Seeds of Hope to my barren world and restored my life both physically and spiritually.
This was an amazing opportunity! I enjoyed joining my friends in volunteering to help a local with issues concerning a landslide. It was a lot of hard work and overall it was enjoyable. Once again I’m glad I had the opportunity to serve.
Great people to serve with. I highly recommend volunteering with Helping His Hands. It's nice to be able to help others out in their time of need.
This place is amazing! I have met so many wonderful people and still learning what all they do. They are so nice and help so many people!
This organization and all the volunteers are amazing. They came to Oklahoma eager to help people after the May 2013 tornado. If it wasn't for them I don't know what we would have done. They built us another house because ours was destroyed and we didn't have any insurance. My family is so thankful and there is not enough words to thank them enough for everything that they did for us. They showed up as volunteers and left as family.
I've been involved with Helping His Hands since the early days. I can't express the joy I've experienced, both through serving others and through working with such an extensive and amazing group of volunteers. Helping His Hands (HHH) is the real deal!!!0
Helping HIs Hands...The local church is the hands and feet of Christ on earth. The thing that captured my interest about this ministry is that the volunteers go into disaster areas, not looking to be 'in charge' but to help the hands that are already there. The local church knows the needs of the community and can lead us to the best ways of meeting those needs. I have had the privilege of serving as a board member, a field chaplain and a cook. Each of these roles has allowed me to see the lives that have been impacted by Helping His Hands. I consider it an honor to have served alongside the board and the many volunteers. Helping His Hands is truly a GREAT nonprofit!
Our church works with Helping His Hands and we have seen first hand the work that this group does. They are beyond wonderful and I would recommend them to everyone!! God has blessed them and with they they bless others beyond measure!!
I volunteer with Helping His Hands, weekly. It’s a great nonprofit organization that provides assistance in many different ways. Volunteering there has blessed me while being the hands and feet of Jesus.
I have never been able to go and help physically but I do help financially! I have grandchildren and a son-in-law that go and do hands on work. I also have brothers and sisters in Christ that serve with them! Through video I have heard onsight testimonies and seen the awesome work Helping His Hands have done!
Great organization! I have worked along side HHH in Oklahoma and Indiana for clean up after tornados. I have volunteered at the food pantry. Great people doing amazing work for many communities. Building ramps, clean up, building homes, supplying food to the needy and supplies for flood and tornado victims.
Have been on many disaster relief trips and short term missions with HHH. Serving the Lord and spreading the Word.
I have personally seen how Helping His Hands staff and the countless volunteers impact lives daily for, not only the good of others, but also for the Kingdom of God. It blows me away to see so many selfless people give of their time and money to serve other people. It’s so rewarding to be a part of such a team effort, where no one is seeking the applause or attention for themselves. If anyone is feeling the urge to serve and give back, especially if at some point in life you have been on the receiving end of a major blessing, HHH is such a great place to pay it forward - to serve God by serving others who have a need that you can help meet with your hands.
I've seen many friends and family members pitch in and help with this organization. A dear friend of mine works for HHH. I feel like I'm constantly hearing about all of the wonderful things HHH is up to! When people that I know have volunteered, communication has been clear and work gets done very efficiently. There is no doubt that this maximizes the capacity in which God is using them. Excited to hear more. Thankful that this organization is so close to home.
Working at home base, working with wonderful organization helping people in need
I got the amazing privilege to be able to volunteer at HHH. The atmosphere of Helping His Hands is just full of happiness and laughter. Not a day goes by that i dont have a smile on my face as soon as I walk through their doors. Scott Shipman is such a great man, and role model. Tiffany Couch is a fun one to be around and the volunteers and interns that are there almost every day just help lift your spirit. When your there, they will cheer you up no matter how you feel. Im so blessed to be able to see how HHH helps people all around. From just the food pantry to the Missions trip. And how its all Faith based and such an amazing thing to add to this community.
I met HHH when my house burned down at 2 am 3 years ago. Scott Shipman was there while the house was still burning. HHH clothed us, feed us, housed us and loved as as Jesus would. This started a new way for me...with decades of building experience, I started to help with relief in disaster areas by using my skills and my heart. I'm blessed to have met and become a small part of this great ministry
As a single mother of three, I really appreciate all that Helping His Hands does for our community! The food pantry is such a blessing in the months where we struggle.
Helping His Hands is such an amazing organization! Not only do they do disaster response, but they have so many other ministries as well! There is the Food Pantry where they give out food to around 400 families a month; the Food Depot, Helping His Hands hosts a Depot Day each month where 14 Food Pantries in the area come and get food for their pantry; They also have the House of Hope homeless shelter; The automotive ministry provides maintenance on vehicles for low-income families through volunteer mechanics free of labor charges; Rampin' Up for Jesus, building ramps and low-rise steps for disabled individuals, and so much more.
Helping His Hands were do I begin. I have been a volunteer for about three years now. I have gained so much by being here everyday. This organization is AMAZING. They help so many. I have done a little bit of everything here. I love being able to help people being able to fix their cars, and helping them get the food and resources that they need so they can survive. I love the atmosphere and the people that I am around daily they truly help me, and we are one great big family. We love each other even if they are only here for a day or a couple of hours. We welcome anyone and everyone who comes in the door at Helping His Hands. I love HHH because I love seeing people smile and seeing that we can help out and make a difference in their lives even if it is just by helping them with food. As I look at each person who comes in the door and see the difference that they are making, they do not even realize that they are making a difference in my life as well. We love and care for each person and it is a great experience and opportunity for anyone and everyone evolved.
I have volunteered for Helping His Hands for three years on and off now and I love being with them. The people here are amazing and will do anything to help the people they meet on a daily basis. They give out food, love, hope and help to those in their community other communities, and even out of state. I am now a volunteer with HHH everyday and love every moment of it! We help so many people and love on them everyday and I can't wait to see more of the lives they touch with their different ministries. God has blessed Helping His Hands in many ways over the years. It is not by the people but by God who is their strength every day. They work hard and care for everyone they meet. They reach out and pray with anyone who asks or even if they don't we ask to make sure everything is okay. When you walk into Helping His Hands you can just feel the presence and peace of God in the building.
Helping His Hands goes out on many mission trips throughout the year. They bring in church groups to help them out with the mission trips that they run. These groups not only put up a foundation, walls, or even paint, but they soak the families in love, scripture, prayer, and faith. Helping His Hands helps so many people throughout a single year and it isn't just them. It is the people, our Lord and Savior, and even the love that we get from each other! Helping His Hands is a great place to just feel the love of God surrounding you!
We were and still are at a low point. We were flooded out of our house not knowing what we were going to do with not much financial and what to do. Scot and Helping his hands reached out to us to get us going. We appreciate all they are doing and the people he has reached out to. The work they are doing is awesome.
I cannot say enough about Scott Shipman and Helping His Hands. They are a Godsend. No matter where you are in life, they welcome you and provide assistance to you and your family. My ex-husband was at the lowest point in his life after making some very bad decisions. They were able to provide some food for him when he needed it. He was so appreciative of this act of kindness, that now he is volunteering once and sometimes twice a week helping others in need. They have help give him a purpose. Praise the Lord! Thank you Helping His Hands!!!!
Amazing work God is doing through Helping His Hands Disaster Response locally and several states away in disaster areas. In local disasters and difficulties HHH provides community outreach through a food pantry, a family homeless shelter, local clean up, and Rampin Up for Jesus wheelchair ramp construction program. In 2017, HHH through volunteers, constructed 2 full size homes in the Gatlinburg area that was devastated by forest fires last year, made several trips to Georgia and Key West, Florida to clean up after hurricane Irma, and still has crews in Texas mudding out houses and cleaning up after hurricane Harvey. The focus and energy in this organization is remarkable. The love they share as they reach out being the hands of Jesus is even more remarkable. What God has done through HHH is not surprising, but it is amazing!
Had a great experience volunteer for helping hands. Great people to volunteer for.
Would highly recommend to do if your looking to some volunteer mission work.
Thanks helping hands!
A truly God-lead organization! Helping His Hands is a Jesus-lead, passion-filled mission association who want to help make peoples lives better and "bring Hope and a hand of service those in need."
This group is spot on... Ready, willing and able..
America's Disaster Relief enjoys working with them, they do what we are often unable to do locally...

In August of 2016, almost exactly one year ago, Louisiana experienced a 1,000 year flood that devastated communities all across south Louisiana. People lost everything! Children that had just started school not only lost their school supplies and schools, many of them also lost their homes. Helping His Hands Disaster Response came to Louisiana numerous times with truckloads of emergency supplies, cleaning supplies, clothes, and school supplies. Many of them stayed and helped people "muck" out their houses and begin the rebuilding process. It was incredible! They helped so many people in need and they did it with great love in their hearts, which made it that more special. I can't say enough about the work of this organization. I watch them now in awe go all over the country helping others in need. Louisiana was extremely luck to have this organization help this state recover.
Had an awesome time working with the folks from Helping His Hands. Saw Good move in many different ways. It's great to play a small part in helping someone get be back what was taken from them through no fault.of their own. Can't wait to help them again.
The work this organization does within Vincennes, let alone the disaster relief is amazing. They are the most wonderful partner to help people who come to our church looking for a hand up, and they are amazing hosts for so many additional ministries in town.
Patrick Schutz Dir of Youth Ministry at First United Methodist Church, First Christian Church, and St John's UCC
I volunteered with this group when they went to Henryville, IN after the tornado devastated their town. The experience was amazing. The efforts were well organized and well received.
The people at Helping His Hands are so wonderful and caring. They have so many areas in Knox County and around the US where they are making a huge difference. Helping so many people means that they have a big need for donations, volunteers, etc to keep their hands available to help others. These are wonderful people that are willing to help so many people, they are making a huge difference in people's lives!
HHH is a great organization with a great leader and wonderful volunteers that help many people everywhere
Helping His Hands Disaster Response serves both locally and nationally. I've had their excellent CERT introductory training. The have experienced trainers and an excellent facility. I've also had a chance to help with the remodeling of a facility which is now a homeless shelter for families, the first in their area. They saw the need and made it happen. The leadership is constantly looking for new ways to serve others.
I have been volunteering at HHH for around a year. I volunteer the first Tuesday of every month to unload and distribute the semi we receive from Mid West Food Bank in the Am. Then in the PM we distribute the food to 14 other food pantries in the surrounding area. I volunteer ever Wednesday to pick up contributions from other locations, help clean up building, help with maintanance on the equipment. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has the time to volunteer great people to work with, honest, dependable, respectable. Myself and the others I have worked with do this because we believe it is HELPING HIS HANDS.
Helping His Hands food pantry is a wonderful service to the community. Many people would go hungry without the food pantry. The people who receive the services of the food pantry are very grateful.
Helping His Hands is such a blessing to our community and to those communities affected by natural disasters. Scott Shipman and his team are constantly responding to someone in need. That need could be finding the next meal, repairing a leaky roof, building a ramp so that someone disabled or elderly can enter and exit their home, helping to clean-up or re-build after mother nature strikes. This organization really does focus on giving a "hand up, not a hand-out." Everyone who comes across Helping His Hands, either on the giving or receiving end, is better for it. This world needs more people like Scott and those who volunteer for Helping His Hands. I am proud to serve on the Helping His Hands Executive Board. As Director of Operations for WVUT-TV & WVUB-FM, I am also proud to partner with HHH to help those in need.
Helping His Hands Disaster Response is not only a great organization but also a true example of what it looks like to be the hands and feet of Jesus. They are willing to go the extra mile for people and show them that someone really cares what they are going through.
I’ve been on a few trips with them and it was wonderful every time. I don’t know who was more blessed by the end of the week, the ones we went to help, or me. I love that they encourage everyone to be a part: it doesn’t matter how much experience you have, your age, or your gender. You may not think you can do much but let me tell you that you can. I didn’t have much experience with construction and such on those trips but I learned a lot and was able to make a difference.
They are doing great things to help those in need in our country and our own community and I believe that this organization will truly change the world.
This place is great! I'm a program manager for a youth camp in northwest Indiana, and last year we took two trips with HHH. They were great to work with. Their prices for going on a missin trip are amazing! They took great care of us while we were there. And the job set was very well prepared! A great organization, I can't say enough good! I hear that they are also doing wonderful things in their local community also.
Helping His Hands does exactly that. Help the hands of Jesus. HHH is one of the most diverse yet focused nonprofits you will find. There is diversity in volunteers from young children, college students, young adults, all the way to retired folks all with an amazing array of backgrounds. There is diversity in donors from corporations, to churches, to individuals, and to small businesses. The diversity also is reflected, most importantly in neighbors who receive assistance from Helping His Hands in short term and long term needs. Regional disasters: from Sandy to Moore, Oklahoma and Joplin, Missouri; from Georgia and Katrina to Henryville, Indiana have benefitted from Helping His Hands assistance and volunteers. Locally, a food pantry has been established to assist those in need of basic provision. The Salvation Army refers neighbors when they run out of resources. Other local assistance includes home repair, roof repair and replacement, and providing some furnishings for those who have had a fire or other destructive event. Temporary housing for those who have lost their home is being developed with a vision to assist the homeless in the future. A great organization in helping His hands.
Helping His Hands is one of the best missional organizations thst I've witnessed. After disaster, most organizations just help with recovery and clean up but HHH stays through rebuild and sometimes is the last organization to leave a disaster area. Not only are they instrumental to the aid of disaster stricken areas but they provide many services in the local community and have a great vision for helping people recover and bringing people to Christ. My children and I went to family camp in Oklahoma this last summer to help rebuild a house. It was an awesone experience for them, at the ages of 5 & 13 to see how helping others out of the love of Christ is so impactful to those who need hope. I can't wait to see what Christ does next thru their organization.
Helping His Hands Disaster Response Inc. is an organization that does what it says it will do. No empty promises here. We have been blessed to have their groups stay at our church many times. The director, Scott Shipman is a man of God who has been given a mission and involves many churches and individuals in making this vision happen.
You will not be disappointed in volunteering Helping His Hands, nor will you be disappointed if you are a recipient of their amazing generosity. This ministry will be a blessing to you no matter what your involvement is with them.
I am blessed with a servants heart and I pray daily for God to fill my heart with love and I will give it away. Helping His Hands Ministry is built on love. God is love and volunteering fulfills my daily prayer. Whether it is fixing a broken home or a broken heart, serving with Helping His Hands is doing Gods work. Thank you Pastor Scott for allowing to serve.
Our church had 9 members go to Joplin Mo to help assist those in need from the devastating tornado they had. It was an invitation from Scott of Helping His Hands that we decided to make this trip. Scott is a man that loves God and loves to help his people in their time of need. All it takes is the willingness to help and serve to help another person. Helping His Hands took care of everything, from arranging our sleeping quarters, providing transportations to the work site and they put us in areas where we could do the most good. The people we helped we so gracious and we were blessed beyond words to be able to make a "hands on" contribution to those in need. Everything Helping His Hands does goes to the glory of God!
Helping his hands is a great ministry. The director, Scott Shipman, has a most excellent vision and mission for the organization. I really enjoyed the authenticity and realism that happens within this group. Real people are impacted in very real ways by everything around them. They seek to offer a helping hand (as the name implies) to people in need, and that's exactly what they do. They go out and provide assistance and relief to those who need it.
Even if you're not that skilled at construction or the various actions in recovery, there is no need to worry. Helping his Hands has experienced workers able to provide guidance to those who may need it and can teach you a variety of skills that you can keep for a lifetime. Ideally, one could take what they learn and be able to use that knowledge in other areas, such as other mission trips or their own hometown.
In conclusion, HHH is the real deal.
