Mission: Helping hand of myrtle beach is a crisis intervention agency whose basic purpose is to help those in need with food, transportation, referrals, prescription medication, rent, utilities, and other individualized services. Although the services and the number of clients have expanded in the last 47 years since helping hand's inception, the focus has remained the same - assisting people in crisis in the myrtle beach area. We are a non-profit organization that receives funding from ten area churches, united way of horry county, foundations, groups, businesses, and individuals. We have seven staff members and 60 active volunteers, and are governed by a board that includes church representatives and at-large members from the community.
Programs: Crisis intervention and referral center is staffed by two full-time and five part-time workers assisted by over 60 active volunteers. Food is provided to almost 10,000 families free of charge annually. Helping hand also provides assistance with rent, utilities, prescription medications, local and long distance bus tickets, gasoline, diapers, hygiene items, and other services. Each year, helping hand serves approximately 26,000 clients.
